I was wondering what people thought on this.

How many men do you think actively pursue women the good old fashioned face to face way vs men that seek to do it through online options?

Guys, how often do you see a woman in public you want to talk to then don't? Or do?

Girls, how often do you do the same?

How many oppurtunities are being passed up?

And another question, Guys, do you loose interests in girls that seem difficult to talk to and maybe not 100% friendly or do you give her the benefit of the doubt?

I think men do both. They approach in real life and they also do online dating. Isn't that more common?

Posted

I get lots of mail through OLD, but rarely does anyone approach in person.

I've even had mail from men saying they recognized me from the grocery store or Starbucks...

Whenever I'm out, all the time. I usually lose count of the amount of women I'd like to approach.

Countless opportunities, for sure.

Whenever I would talk to a woman, once I seen a slight hint of discomfort in her face, or continuously got one word answers, I pretty much just let it go and realize it's probably best to not continue trying to talk to her.

Quite often, sometimes I don't even have to leave the house. I have developed quite an interest in doing yard work. Living on a corner with a daycare nearby is good.

Out and about I don't talk to all of them, I'd say half. I'm still a little shy

Why would keeping up pursuit of a girl who was unfriendly or with whom conversation was difficult be considered giving her the benefit of the doubt?

I would think that either she was not interested, maybe was an unfriendly person, or we just weren't clicking, probably.

I generally don't approach random women and it is my understanding that most men around here don't do that either. At least, I can't remember the last time I witnessed a random approach unless it was at a bar or club.

When I'm out and about, I'm usually going somewhere specific. I don't prowl the streets looking for prospective "targets" to "pick up". Even if I had the interest in doing that, I wouldn't have the time.

Those aren't two exclusively separate groups!

I would say the face-to-face technique is still the mo of the majority of men.

Very seldom do I see a woman that's remotely acceptable. Even rarer on the internet. I expect 1 in about 20 outings I will see someone decent enough to really want to talk to.

I don't see how anyone could just lose interest so easily. When that decent one does come along, I'm all the more intrigued at any type of behavior.

I could never master the totally random thing and I also never mastered online dating. Hopefully I'll never need to.

I met my wife at a Ron Paul event. And everyone I've ever seriously dated was from school, social groups or volunteer stuff.

Very often.

I don't lose interest but I assume they don't have any so I don't push things.

My self esteem when it comes to dating is not particularly high, so I'm pretty quick to assume the worst.

Did you get married recently? I could have sworn you were calling her your girlfriend a little while back. I must have missed the marriage announcement if there was one.

I met my girlfriend through an in public approach. Not really random though, I knew where she worked.

I might work a girl who's difficult or shy for a while but she has to give me some indication she's into me. How come we never get to hear about guys approaching you Disenchantedly, the old fart at the gym you didn't like can't be the only one. Are you giving off bad vibes to a guy you like?

I see a lot of women id like to approach but im a pussy when it comes to approaching women plus i figure theyre not attracted to me anyway so its a waste of time..

The few times i approached ive been rejected and at times rejected harshly where the girl looked at me like how dare you approach me..

Of course id lose interest if the girl doesnt seem interested or doesnt want to talk to me..Who actually enjoys that?

I can't bring myself to start online profiles...it just seems like the best way to start a relationship is if you meet someone in the same environment and they don't have to "change" for something to happen.

I seldom, if ever, approach a lady in public. The only place I go on a regular basis is the grocery and I do see women I'd like to approach but never do. I'm afraid I'll come across as a creep or player.

Pretty much this.

If I catch a woman eyeing me in a bar i'll eye back then go talk to her but if I leave the house Its for a purpose.

Although "how I met your mother" has some good ideas for places to pick up women. LOL!

Yeah, it's kind of a long story. We're legally married, but we still have to do a formal ceremony at some Mosque in New York at the end of May.

I tend to quickly lose interest if I approach a girl and she doesn't seem receptive because it typically means she isn't interested.

In the past I've not been very receptive face to face verse online, unless it was mutual friends or we became friends first. I hate to feel like my looks are the primary driving factor in somebody's interest.

I did before and do now the cheesy wearing a wedding ring most the time while out to help ward off approaches and to make me not feel badly about a harsh blowoff if somebody approaches with more than friendship obviously on their mind.

I do some types of hobby competitions and leave it off there, though; the mutual hobby gives me more hope.

I am not sure I've ever cold approached a guy with romantic intent. Never seemed necessary.

I cant give a girl the benefit if she doesn't show me interest nope but I'm always approaching when it looks like a good moment to do it. If a girl is acting difficult then it means that she dont like me right? Why else is the reason for her to act that way to me just for talking to her?

I don't ever approach girls anymore while I'm out and about when there isn't a legitimate reason for talking to them other than asking them out. Instead, I mostly meet girls naturally through shared activities, or through online dating. Those seem to be working reasonably well.

Why not cold approach in real life? Here are my two main reasons:

1- Frankly, it seems like a waste of time. I have many requirements regarding a girl I would date. The only information I have to go on when seeing a girl out in public is her looks, and that's not enough reason to go on a date with someone. Unfortunately, most people in this world happen to be uninteresting, lame, and not datable to me, independently of their looks, and asking a random person out in public on a date would most likely be a colossal waste of time. When you get to know people first through activities or through their profiles, you at least have some information to go on in filtering the obviously bad matches and trying your hands at the "could work" girls.

2- Very high probability of rejection and/or awkwardness. Even if these girls would love me if they got to know me, achieving success in asking them out is much harder. This is because a random girl doesn't know me, so is unable to appreciate what I can offer. Not to mention the fact that attractive women out in public are naturally defensive, making this all the more difficult. Given that a random person is likely not what I'm looking for (See point 1 above), it seems like risking such a high probability of rejection for such small payoff is just not worth it. Of course, you would argue that I would have more success if I just worked on my "approach" and "game", but because of point (1) above all that effort on game is not worth it.

Good questions DisenchantedlyYours!

I will vote for face-to-face get to know you coz I've tried online dating and it's tough. That's not always so possible due to shortage of eligible men so then it goes back to online dating to increase the fishes in the pond.

With online dating, there's the LDR part to consider always. How far is how far and will the guy ever come see me in person? EVER? Gotta go with gut feelings regardless of what sweet promises he can type.

BTW no real deals from f2f or OD yet for me. Still waiting. :p

you go to certain places all the time (coffee shops, grocery store, gym, parks etc)

So by going online, you can expand your fish net.

Use it as a side thing for dating. don't solely depend on it.

Do you know how many guys send emails to an average looking or even a fat girl?

I picked up this girl who is 8.5 by my scale. (I have strict scale. I know beauty)

If I approached her online, I am 100% sure that she wouldn't even look at my whole profile (she would just skip after looking at small picture above the message)
