Ross MwcFan Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 Forget about pics that were taken of someone when they were much younger, or pics that were taken when someone was a lot slimmer. Do people usually end up looking less attractive in real life than how they look in their pics, or do they usually look more attractive in real life than how they look in their pics?

Author Ross MwcFan Posted April 15, 2012 Author Posted April 15, 2012 In my experience they always look better in person than online. Cool. Hopefully that'll be the same for me then.
verhrzn Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 It can go both ways. Some people are extremely photogenic and some are, well, the opposite. I think, for the most part, people look better in real life because they are 3-dimensional, so things that are "flattened out" in photos look fuller, less fake. Lighting also has a drastic effect on how someone looks, and lighting in photos is usually artificial... the fact that you perceive the person in real life with "natural" light can automatically make them look much better. But again, goes both ways.

firehawk_1 Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 not for men. trust me.... especially if you are in the uk, which you are.
Star Gazer Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 In my experience they always look better in person than online. That's generally been my experience as well. When that hasn't been true, they've looked CRAZY different, as in they provided very old photographs (much thinner, younger, etc.).
Jane2011 Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 For me, it's varied. I would say none of them looked dramatically different from online pics (I've been fortunate to never talk to or go on a date with a guy who was outright deceiving with his pics), but a couple of guys looked slightly less good in person, and a few have looked slightly better. I guess one thing I've noticed, in the 'looking slightly worse' cases, is that some guys end up looking skinnier/scrawnier in relation to more buff-looking photos they posted. Just slightly, though. I take more kindly to this, though, than to a guy being hugely overweight compared to his pics.
ThaWholigan Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 Yeah, I find that my pictures don't do me justice really, I'm much better looking in real life IMO. Online pics are ok-ish.
tigressA Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 Generally, if they weren't outright lying by posting misleading pictures (and I encountered that only once), they looked either the same or better in person compared to their pictures. I've been told I look good both ways.
Cypress25 Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 I think most people look better in real life. Unless you're one of those lucky people who are remarkably photogenic, but those people are a minority.
USMCHokie Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 The biggest disparity I usually saw was in the side profile of a person...since it's the least common view captured in photographs...so you often will not see the true size/shape of facial features, belly features, etc...

You'd be able to see a double chin, big butt and fat belly in a side view of someone which is why it probably isn't that common.
Sith Apprentice Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Generally speaking, most people are more attractive in person. In person you have the benefit of body language, voice tone, social value, and charm. This is why I don't recommend online dating for short or overweight men. You will get ignored online. Short guys can work charm and social value to pull women in the real world though. No one's going to fall in love with your personality online. On a few occasions I've been tricked by morbidly obese women with cute faces who only had close up face shots on their profile. I now won't agree to meet someone unless she has at least 1 full body pic on her profile.
