I'm hugely turned on by simpler long country-style dresses. Nothing too short, tight or glamorous. I also don't like high heels, especially those thick massive door-wedge looking ones.

I'm also turned on by women who wear traditionally male clothing styles.

I think it's mostly a comfort thing. If a person (male or female) is at peace with what they are wearing, that vibe is infectious and folks are more likely to be drawn to them. If they can't seem to "own it", however, it risks coming across as a desperate attempt to gain attraction.

My opinion: a woman who doesn't like wearing skirts is a woman who is uncomfortable being feminine. I know a woman who feels more comfortable wearing jeans and sweatshirts. She could count the number of times she wore makeup or went to the salon per year on her fingers.

She and her husband married around 20 or 21. At first, his wife dressing in regular jeans and shirts didn't bother him. But at 30 it bothered him. When they were 35, they went to a divorce counciller. One of his complaints against her was that she never dressed feminine in dresses and high heels. She said, "I've always dressed like this. Why is it bothering you now?" His reasons were that he hated seeing women his wife's age and older who knew how to look sexy in dresses and makeup looked younger than their actual age. While his wife in her jeans and plaid shirt looked dumpy and almost 10 yrs older. Ouch.

They got divorced that year. It's been 10 yrs since then. I know their daughter. She told me her father lives in NYC and has been in many relationships, while her mother hasn't been in any. The mother is a source of derisive pity from the church ladies because of her dating dilemma. She simply does not know how to look sexy and attract men to make their heads turn when she passes them. Her whole life she's been uncomfortable dressing feminine. She feels more comfortable dressing like a grunge rocker than looking like a woman in Cosmopolitan magazine.

So yeah, alotta guys will say a dress isn't important. But when they start to compare their unfeminine dressing SO with sexy women in skirts and heels, they'll start to change their minds about it.

My H loves when I wear dresses and skirts, even long maxi dresses. I've had guys compliment me when I'm in a dress and lament that women don't wear them anymore nowadays. The only thing I don't like are scraggly, super short denim miniskirts. I like flowy, A-line skirts/dresses that end a couple inches above the knee. I think they are sexy and classy.

Of late, I'm a fan of the knee-length dress.

Long dresses/skirts - not so much. Maybe I'll get back into them later (although I really think I should never wear them, because I am petite).

Wearing my dress today. Wore it to a doctor's appointment. Wearing it right now, too -- with a 2" heel on MaryJane shoes. Feel very feminine! lol...

Haha! I did read it. That reminded you of me?

I thought it was funny because I wear skirts and dresses nearly all the time in warm weather, but I rarely wear make up and and have never had a manicure.

I read January's post above and wondered what "certain age" she is talking about, because I still wear short skirts and dresses

For one example, I want this dress in blue.

Also, my jeans aren't dumpy! lol

I love women in dresses and skirts. Jeans are okay but nothing really compares to a nice dress or skirt.

I assume you want her to read this so she can criticize my post? If so, that's strange of you to want something like that. In this thread: http://www.loveshack.org/forums/romantic/dating/319623-why-do-older-guys-go-much-younger-girl-44.html

you've stated you don't take her advice seriously. Why do you take it seriously now?

lol no not at all. We just had a discussion once about if men care about how women take care of their appearance. I actually agree with your post and I do think men compare their women with other women and prefer a slightly high maintenance woman. She was saying the opposite.

It used to be over 30s but I think it's now mid-40s and above. Programmes like SATC had a lot of influence, I think. But the 40s seem to be the new 30s, etc.

I'm in my 30s and I don't think I can get away with very short skirts anymore, at least not in public - I might still have the legs for it, but it seems a little bit 'undignified' for want of better words. Kudos to those who can do it though.

I think I've always preferred black-tie type longer dresses and skirts that were very full and ballgowny (similar to what's worn at the Academy Awards) or pencil skirts/fitted sheath dresses that tend to be worn for work - I can't seem to get away with cutesy print sundresses that are worn casually. Though I did used to wear a very short kilt-type skirt back in my clubbing days.

It's not just about dresses, but high heels, makeup and all the shabang. You gotta look sexy!!

Personally I love dresses and skirts, not just because of the sexiness but the comfort that they give me. I almost never wear pants in summer. In fact last summer I went out often with just a dress, no underwear and no bra, felt great. :D

Taking care of her appearance--YES!

But that doesn't need to mean high maintenance. I don't know how else to explain it.

Manicure, shaped eyebrows, great hair, makeup etc are all part of taking care of your appearance.

It's not that important but I do like it when girls wear dresses or skirts. In fact, most of the girls I approach tend to be wearing dresses or skirts.

This thread IS about dresses :) And I love them!

I find naked women sexy. Also, I wish more of them would wear skirts...in summer..love them legs! But not the fatties, fatties should know by now that they are not to be seen in the nude or not in a winter coat.

Too much make up and overdone eyebrows and hair are awful.

Natural look always better for the taste of men.

Ok, so first, being the hips man that I am, I approve of skirts and jeans.

However, it also depends on the type worn. I think it looks best on a woman when she wears jeans/skirts that fit her form.

As long as she doesn't underdress for occasions where I need her to look her best, I don't care.

Yes. Legs! I had a classmate who wore shorts to class daily. She had the nicest legs and just had to sit right next to me. Could. not. concentrate.

Mad Men has popularized the Fifties look in fashion, which is very feminine and flattering on most women. I love the tea length dresses and skirts which just cover the knee but aren't too long. Few women have attractive knees.

I love to see women in skirts and dresses. Add heels and hose and Im in heaven...drool! It actually turns me on so maybe that would constitute a fetish in a way?

Ironically my XW and my current Fiancee almost never wear them. My XW used to dress this way for work sometimes and I would pounce on her when she came home later than I did. It was strange in that my XW hated dressing up yet she would sometimes do it to go out with her girl friends. Sound familiar?

My current girl at least loves me enough to do it for me if I ask her to. She just kind of gives me that strange look and says "ok" because she knows exactly what Im up to. :bunny::bunny:
