PrettyInPink3 Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 My boyfriend (now ex) would have been dating for three years in March but in early January he decided that he didn't want a girlfriend right now and he thought that we should take a break. Well, a couple weeks later he broke it off completely. I asked him if it was because he wanted to see other people, or if he was interested in someone else, but he said no, he just didn't want a girlfriend. I understand that he wants some time to himself, and to be single, seeing how we've been in a relationship for almost 3 years and are still pretty young, but I've just been very upset lately. We've been talking a bit lately, and he insisted on still staying close. About two weekends ago we were at a party and hung out a bit. Later that night he had asked me back out, and me, being a hopeless romantic said yes in a heartbeat. Things were perfect just like old times and I felt great! Well, two days later he continued to tell me that he still doesn't want a girlfriend right now and doesn't know why he asked me back out the other night. I was completely heart broken and felt so stupid. He told me that he was terribly sorry and still wanted to stay close, but I hate having to call him my "friend." There literally isn't a time when he isnt on my mind and no matter how many guys talk to me, he's still the one I want. Please please just help me decide what to do I kind of wanted to see if the "No Contact" thing would work and make him realize he misses me, but Im just confused and hate not being with him thanks for the help!
SilverBlueAndGold Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 If you still have feelings for this guy and he wants you to hang around as "just a friend", well that's actually a cruel thing to do on his part. You should not feel at all guilty if you need to go completely NC if that is what you need to heal.

What a jerk he is, playing with your heart like that. You can't be friends with a person you are in love with and he doesn't feel the same. Complete NC is in order for you to heal, not to be used to make him miss you. This is for YOU.
Philosoraptor Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 Sadly this is how most breakups go. A bit of back and forth while one is deciding whether or not they want to be with the person, or if being single is the better choice for them right now. It's usually a fear of not knowing what's out there that causes the back and forth. You would be best taking care of yourself, but not with the intention of getting him back.
