Disenchantedly Yours Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 People get older. It's not cruel. It's life. We are suppose to age. What is cruel is our society's inability to not let this happen and sell all kinds of products and images that re-enforce our fears about aging. It's sado-masachistic. It's like we like punishing ourselves. Our country doesn't have a healthy relationship with aging. We don't respect people that are older then us. Teenagers are rude to adults and adults are rude to the elderly. Instead of respecting the elderly for all they have seen and learned, we minimize them. We think just because they are slower and not as sharp, they have less to offer. Our country is overly involved with the image of youth and staying young. People are afraid to die. But to be alive is to die as well. And if we saw the positives in aging instead of demeaning people for aging, we would develop a healthy mentality about it. But it would require not only social conditioning but people to stop believing in the ideals about themselves and others and age as well. 4

It's good and wise to be aware of the foibles of the society you live in, and admirable to work to change things you believe need changing. But don't let that crap rule you so much. And know that you can't change other people or the way they think. That's up to them. 1
musemaj11 Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 I have a feeling that this thread is meant to be a sarcasm about how men age gracefully. 1
Disenchantedly Yours Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Mme C. I like what you had to say but I DO think people can change. Muse, I agree. And look what happened. Women chimed in lifting men up, not putting them down. If this thread was about female stars aging, men would be jumping in to put women down. Not lift them up. 2
shayla Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Welp, Since I like the look of a grown ass man, these are looking mighty fine to me.
Mme. Chaucer Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Mme C. I like what you had to say but I DO think people can change. Of course they can. I said YOU can't change other people or the way they think.
kaylan Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 It's funny you mention this. Every black guy I know is about 10yrs older than I originally thought they were. BLOWS MY MIND. I can't comment on the women because asking a black woman her age would get me slapped upside the head. hard. LOL! lolol yeah I dont think you should really be asking any women their age...at least ones you dont know well haha. But yeah, the only reason darker people pass for younger is because: a)less damage from the sun due to the protection melanin gives us, and b)the signs of aging we do have get "hidden in the shadows" I guess you could say. Harder to seem them and point them out on darker skin.If you get to 40's and beyond (where I am at), and you are measuring of the quality of your life by your appearance, you aren't having a very good or meaningful life. Additionally, if you get into that age group and find yourself unappealing, just know that some of us still have ab's at this age (myself included). Guess it's easier to complain about age then get to the gym... I want this guys back at forty. Good work bro.
Mme. Chaucer Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Speaking of age, I found out yesterday that my husband had no idea of mine. We married in September and he was having his taxes done. He called me for my SSI # and (sheepishly) my date of birth. He thought I was 6 years younger than I am … unless he just said that to flatter me. Whatever, I enjoyed it. 2
kaylan Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Heath is dead. There is nothing hot about a decomposing corpse. Psssh....Im sure if Heath became a reanimated zombie like Michael Jackson was in Thriller, that loads of girls would still screw him lolz 1
zengirl Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Never heard of the first guy. I think he looks gross in both pics, actually. Sorry, celebrity I never heard of. Leo looks better older and with more weight on him. He was WAY too skinny in Titanic and R&J and I never got where my peers (I was a teenybopper then) got the idea he was sexy from. He looks mildly sexy now, but he's still not my cuppa. Heath Leger looks worse in the picture towards the end of his life because he was dealing with some heavy issues and drug use, from all accounts. He looks better in the middle of those two pics, closer to the 27 age, frankly, before he started to knuckle under the pressure and turn to drugs. At any rate, that's not a good example of "aging" with that kind of stress and drug use involved. That **** ages you more than time. To me, none of the young pictures are at all attractive. I'm sure there are some men who were attractive at age 18, but I find most male celebrities are at their peak of attractiveness in their 30s.
FitChick Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Someone who is a sun worshipper, smoker and alcoholic will look much older than someone who isn't. Those are things you can control.
PinkInTheLimo Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 I am SO gonna bump up this thread everytime a guy here has the nerve to say that women age worse than men...
PinkInTheLimo Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 I'm sure you could have found some pictures of guys who actually did look like crap when they got older; these don't. Maybe it's because I'm old myself, but even though I can see the beauty in the young pictures, I find the older ones more attractive. The young pics you posted are especially childlike, and the older ones look like grown up men. Which I prefer. Not to take away from the inherent beauty of youth, which of course I appreciate. I have always preferred men my own age. Therefore there is something very reassuring about seeing wrinkles and grey hair when I date a man. Gives me the feeling that we are on the same level. Plus it has something endearing for me. I can enjoy looking at a handsome youngster from a purely aesthetically point of view but he does not attract me on a gut level. I don't want to feel the body of a hot young guy of 25 against me, I want to feel the body of a guy my age against me.
OliveOyl Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 The man whose aging slightly shocked me is James Spader. He was such a pretty boy in his time! http://shechive.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/a-eye-candy-james-spader-0.jpg And now: http://www.dailyactor.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/james-spader-the-office.jpg

Still not my cuppa, but he was much more attractive in the 80s, yes. But we're looking at the difference between 20s and 50s there. I think that'd hurt a lot of people more than the difference between 18 and 30.
ASG Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 I actually think Leo looks WAYYYYYY better now than he did in his early 20's! Not he's HOT! before he was just a pretty face on a skinny body! Another one that has aged brilliantly is Brian Austin Green. On Beverly Hills 90210 he was cute, but now, OMG that guy is RIPPED! So hot!

Doug Savant, originally on Melrose Place, and now on Desperate Housewives, has also aged quite well. Edited to add: I think Hugh Laurie (Dr. House) looks WAY better -- more distinguished, more interesting -- as he's aged too. Edited April 2, 2012 by OliveOyl

FitChick Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Anyone remember John Davidson from Disney movies and That's Incredible TV show? I saw him recently and it was a bit of a shock. He looks great for a 70-year old but in my mind he still looked like this.
FitChick Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Interesting bit of synchronicity regarding this topic and Leonardo.
Desinova Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 I dont agree with the others. I wont be silly and pretend those guys didnt look better younger. Youth is attractive. Tight wrinkle free skin is attractive. Theres a reason those guys were heartthrobs for all the teenage girls and 20-something women when they were in their own teens and 20s. The thing about celebs is a lot of them get into drugs and drink to much. Or they smoke. Hell, in general most people dont take great care of themselves as they get older. Jennifer Aniston might have been sexier to me when she was 25, but shes still hot as hell at 42 because she takes care of that body. Like they say "black dont crack" and Ill be passing for a younger age my whole life as long as I stay healthy. Im glad I have that extra melanin in my skin. PS - Ive always been jealous of Timothy Olyphants genetics. Hes one of those dudes who stay good looking no matter what his age. Plus he takes great case of himself. You obviously have never seen Lebron James or Greg Oden.
RedRobin Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Well... if this thread is sarcastic... I'll dive in... On the same page I read FitChick's link above, I found this about Minnie Driver. 42 with a recent baby. Isn't dating the 52 yr old BF anymore and is now dating a pretty hunky 31 yr old model. Minnie Driver frolics in the Caribbean with her toyboy boyfriend and son Henry... a month after father's identity is revealed | Mail Online Things that make you go "hmmmm". Maybe I should ditch my moral standards and just be hittin' the youngins near me.
Titania22 Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 Maybe I should ditch my moral standards and just be hittin' the youngins near me. You should! Don't knock it until you try it. Young men are my honey.
FitChick Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 Minnie has a great body so it's easy to see why he is attracted. Clearly she works out regularly and watches her diet so the baby weight came off quickly.
