paloma22 Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 I'm meeting up with a guy tonight i met on OkCupid. We've been emailing for weeks, and I am nervous! Also, I have never actually met someone from a dating site. Anyone have any advice for me? We are going for a walk, meeting halfway between his place and mine
eleanorhurting Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 why don't you go for coffee? a walk between his place and yours sounds like a booty call in the making.
Jane2011 Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 I actually like dates where there's physical movement involved (ice-skating, walking, window-shopping, just moving in general). Feels more natural, often provides fodder for conversation. 1
Fondue Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 why don't you go for coffee? a walk between his place and yours sounds like a booty call in the making. I never did online dating or did these "meetups" for the first time, so maybe I am ignorant. But please indulge me, how does meeting up halfway and going for a walk in the park imply booty call? I rather think that's a nice little hang out. Walk in the park, grab some ice cream, sit on the bench and enjoy the spring air. Sounds quite lovely, if you ask me.
SmileFace Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Good luck, first meetings can be nerve wrecking but just relax. However I wouldn't advise a walk in the park so soon. I say a small diner, ice cream palor, book store or coffee shop. Some where small enough that you are remembered and has witnesses. Anyway remember have fun!

Yeah if it is to a park or something that sounds much better. Ice cream sounds lovely. Have fun
eleanorhurting Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 I am sorry I did not read park in the title! I thought you were just going to randomly walk around both of your places. Just be careful and it should be fine.

Author paloma22 Posted April 1, 2012 Author Posted April 1, 2012 Thanks everyone, the walk was actually my idea. I am in the middle of exams, and its sort of a study break, his suggestion. I will be careful. Perhaps we will end up getting a coffee, but it may just be a walk! This way, we can see if there is any point continuing to email, etc. I am going to be super casual, myself. But still hopefully look cute

Ninjainpajamas Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Always keep in mind that you don't really know anything about this person you are speaking with online. Don't become encompassed by the person he represents to you, everyone tends to put their best foot forward first for obvious reasons. Always go to a place where people are around, and always have a plan to back out in case you need to leave and the guy acts like a creepy, trust me online people can be one way and in reality another. Coffee or something low-key but busy is usually a good idea for a first meet up. Just keep in mind It can get a little awkward If you guys don't click or hit it off with too much "personal space". I don't think it's a good idea to say where you live and kind of give him an idea where you live with a person you just met for a few weeks online, that's just taking an unnecessary risk as well. Hopefully this is a normal guy who's represented himself honestly and for who he really is and you have a good time. But always try and think ahead with online dating, some weird people on there.
Author paloma22 Posted April 2, 2012 Author Posted April 2, 2012 (edited) Back from date. He was nice! We ended up walking and grabbing coffee. Also had a laugh about the 'walk in the dark' i suggested. I think its definitely safe to say guys lie about their height in OLD! But he asked me out again, so we shall see lol. Thanks everyone for tips ! Will probably not be the last you will hear about things haha Edited April 2, 2012 by paloma22 1
