gotye Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 my friends always roll their eyes when I say; ugh, ew that guy does [blank] I believe I may be a bit too picky (from dating many men I wasn't physically attracted to and that was the downfall then finally finding the perfect physical man for me who eventually dumped me) but one of my biggest turn offs; guys who wear baseball caps. Seriously... I don't hate people who do that, but if a guy hits on me wearing one I just go; ehehehe, let's just be friends also, sleeveless shirts... though that's not at all a deal breaker i n ANYWAY, just a turn off, but I understand if you are doing stuff outside and it's hot. I also really am turned on by men in glasses, also not a necessity but it's definitely something I am really into. I probably am too picky with some things, and right now am still getting over my ex so a lot of guys just keep getting compared to him, but personally I am not just going to settle once I get over him
ThaWholigan Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 I have one thing I can think of that I can be very picky about: I like girls with long hair. It just looks better to me, I cannot explain it. As a result, there are few girls in my opinion who look good with short hair. It's not a requirement or anything, but I generally prefer longer hair on girls, the longer the better. Especially if it's curly 1
verhrzn Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 I don't like guys who are into sports. If a guy mentions he watches sports, not even as a die hard fan, just as a passing hobby, I'm less attracted to him. (I make exceptions for the Olympics and the Super Bowl.) 1

Jane2011 Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 I'm picky about good dental hygiene. I like a guy who brushes his teeth at least two times a day, and if he does it one time more than that, that's fine too. About baseball caps: I used to be a big fan of them when I was younger. Not so much now.
verhrzn Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 What about playing (vs watching)? Depends on the sport and how serious he is about it.

What we do or don't like makes are mate unique to us. I will take all the guys you don't like that wear baseball caps. I like that look myself. BUT one thing that I can't stand, is someone with poor table habits. I can't stand any kind of lip smacking or slurping or sucking sounds and other poor table habits. It's just a pet peeve of mine. I think it's because my dad's side of the family, along with my dad, kind of have that problem. It's rather comical when we would get together with my dad's family. My dad, his two sisters and two brothers would be sitting together and they would just about all eat the same. Especially my Uncles. I had to laugh about it because otherwise it drove me nuts. I also don't like guys that look too Newport RI. With button down shirts and little shorts. I like my men a little rough around the edges. No one "too" pretty. I like a man that likes to get his hands dirty in a good way.

Not so much now. Noticed this. Lots of girls like nice teeth on a man.

I'm relatively unattracted to sports buffs, too. It's okay if they have one sport they're mildly interested in, but I just don't go for the big football fan. My last serious boyfriend was not a sports guy at all. The only thing he liked was the World Cup, and that only took up time once every four years.

But eating habits are important to me, a guy who eats fast food is a big turn off. Mainly would only be a problem if it was on a weekly basis, I personally am really nauseous thinking about fast food so I couldn't be with someone knowing he eats it often. Not asking for a health buff or a chef, just someone who has moderate respect for their body
oaks Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 Depends on the sport and how serious he is about it. Fair enough. Maybe it's a language/culture difference, but when I hear someone (in the UK, from a UK background) say they are 'into sports' I assume they mean participating... and I don't consider sitting on the sofa watching TV to be particularly sporty!
xxoo Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 also, sleeveless shirts... though that's not at all a deal breaker i n ANYWAY, just a turn off but I understand if you are doing stuff outside and it's hot. I hate them. I agree, turn off. Funny story---my H was wearing one when I met him! And yes, it was an immediate turn off. However, not a lasting one, obviously. He still wears them. I still tease him about how awful they are. Don't sweat the small stuff.
SmileFace Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 I find it a turn off when a guy doesn't like some kind of sport or active in one.

Mainly would only be a problem if it was on a weekly basis, I personally am really nauseous thinking about fast food so I couldn't be with someone knowing he eats it often. Not asking for a health buff or a chef, just someone who has moderate respect for their body That would probably work out well. Most of my friends and I like different kind of guys. And I always feel thankful for that otherwise we would probably be fighting over men. What a guy eats is important too, I agree. I think fast food on occasion is okay. But I agree that if he eats it weekly, that might be a problem. And the truth is that your partner's eating habits can affect yours. I know because I have been in relationships with guys with worse eating habits then me and I found myself eating what they ate and gaining weight for it. So it is good to have someone that is like minded in that regard. Whole Foods is a great place to see some good looking health minded guys. Either that shop there or work there. And and someone mentioned teeth. Alot of girls do like nice teeth but for me, that's never been a huge deal. Sometimes a crocked tooth can be charming actually....all I care about is fresh breath.

Funny you say that because for me it's a turn-off when I find out a guy isn't into football. That's the only unusual thing I'm picky about.
oaks Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 I'm picky about lateness. Once or twice isn't an issue, but I've dated people with chronic tardiness and I can't stand it. 1
Author gotye Posted March 26, 2012 Author Posted March 26, 2012 What about playing (vs watching)? not really into that either, it's all on a case to case situation though... just got that notion when I was little of what a nerdy, smart guy was like from having a crush on harold ramis in ghostbusters, and from like age of 8 that's what I wanted

But the title of the thread was about what you are "picky" about.
Els Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 I have a feeling this thread is going to balloon into 20+ pages.

norajane Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 I'm picky about pets. I love cats and dogs, so it would really be a deal-breaker for me if I were dating someone who didn't like animals or hated them, or didn't want them in the house or didn't understand that they are living creatures who require daily care. I only have a cat right now, but would like to some day also get a dog. I feel lucky that my bf is a pet person, but I have had to walk away from a relationship early on because he didn't like animals because he thought they were dirty.
danny in van Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 in no particular order: tardiness, bad spelling, lazy and out of shape and not doing anything to change it, sports fanatic, fascinated by celebrity culture and regular tv watcher, uninterested in world events etc, uneducated and not perpetually learning...conventional...unkind, humorless. Sounds like a lot but I'm not looking for what I can't offer ...
