I now understand why women hate the "hi" message in OLD

I'd respond back with a simple "Bye." :)

I got "hi" sometimes when I was doing OLD.

Annoying.

Or sometimes I would get "Hit me back if you wanna talk."

As if!

My favorite is "let's chat". Is it 1995 all over again?

Hubby and I (who met on OKC) both had profiles that said something along the lines of: If you message me, please don't just say "hi" or "what's up?" Please actually say something!

It's seriously hard to know what to do with that and IME the men who write really short things (I never responded to "hi" or "what's up?" but I did at first respond to people who said something akin to they were interested and to write them back if I was as well, until I realized it wasn't any better!) cannot carry on a good conversation, at least not in writing. Many of them give the excuse that they don't like to write. I guess that's okay, but it was not for me.

Phineas, sounds like you've given it a good try. To each their own, I guess, but those "just hi" messages don't seem like they'd get anyone anywhere.

I always pick something out of their profile to comment on then ask a question about whether they like something or not i'm into that isn't on their profile.

A sign of life!

She asked a question!

At this rate I might secure a date before my subscription runs out in 3 weeks. LOL!

Sounds good. I did something similar -- not long, just a sentence or two, but as you say "a sign of life." :)

Awesome, good luck!

The crazy ones are oddly more self-assured and real, in spite of the fact that they are also pretty unbearable. It's like craziness comes with a good dose of self-respect.

We can only handle so much crazy: our own. I've had my not-exactly-sane times, and I really resent someone trying to heap more crap onto me, when I'm already hurting.

Also, having a chip on your shoulder can throw shyness out of the window for a while.

I just got one myself & i'm wondering WTF am I supposed to do with that?

It's just a "hi" message titled "hi".

So? Maybe the woman is practically illiterate.

Good replies:

Lo

I sure am!

Some sites have a high ratio of prostitutes looking or fishing for potential money prospects.

What easier way than a dating site?

I've had guys tell me that many, many gals looking for potential guys to make money from start a chat with just "hi!"

Then suddenly and pretty quick out of the gate - they refer you to their "site"

Their ploy is as little effort or energy expended - to get you to pay them money!

I dunno. Back when I was in OLD, if a girl I found attractive sent me a "hi" message, I'll reply with "hi" and "how are you?" Try to engage some convo.

However, I can imagine if you're getting loads of emails, the "hi" email probably won't be a turn on. That or if someone you're not attracted to does the "hi" message.

Well, I had a 2nd one wink at me & I sent her a message & I really did think she was illiterate.

But it turns out she just wasn't born in this country so English is her 2nd language.

So after 3 months on match.com the tally is:

A weeks worth of emails with a woman who went *poof*

A woman who responded once then stopped.

sex with a stage-5 clinger who told me she just wanted to have fun then tried to sex me into a relationship an got pissed because I couldn't text her while I was at work.

More ignored messages than I care to remember.

Many winks from models in their 30's (fake accounts)

winks from women I wasn't attracted to.

And now I am talking to two women I am attracted to & just trying to figure out if I want to meet them.

I'm not sure it was worth the $50.

Going to the free sites this summer.

WTF are you gonna find one that's not crazy?

All women are crazy. The keepers just know how to catch their crazy.

This one had a hole you could drive a dump-truck through in her net.
