I just got one myself & i'm wondering WTF am I supposed to do with that?

It's just a "hi" message titled "hi".

I usually get those from fake profiles.

This one is legit.

Usually women at least ask me a question when they messaged me in the past.

She does interest me so I'll message her back later today with some questions and such to get the ball rolling as I assume a "hi" message from a woman is a slight step up from a wink.

I think my profile even asks that women don't just say "hi. how are you?" if they want to contact, but I still get some like that. If filters out those who can't read, I suppose. :)

Reading isn't a requirement of mine. :)

Just not fat & not crazy.

Maybe I should lower my standards. :)

I always took, "hi" as being more promising than "kiss off & die".

If you didn't like her you could always continue the dance by writing back; "hi back"

Response choices:

1) Engage in predictable 1-3 word exchanges.

2) Take it upon yourself to get a real conversation rolling despite the ball being in their court.

3) Ignore.

The "hi" obviously worked for you. I'm sorry she didn't ask you about your favorite movies or how you like working your job etc.

You don't know what to do with a "hi." It's called be the man and msg her back "thanks for saying hi and hi back at you. We should meet are you free tonight?"

And that ladies and gentlemen is how its done. Not that I've actualy ever online dated a person.

The crazy ones are oddly more self-assured and real, in spite of the fact that they are also pretty unbearable. It's like craziness comes with a good dose of self-respect.

You're probably right. I don't think that anyone who just said "hi" was someone I wanted to meet, but if she was pretty and we shared some interests then I'm sure I'd overlook it. ;)

Her listed salary is more than twice what I make.

serious.

Maybe she's the type who likes to wear the suit pants in a relationship? LOL!

I've never had a suger-mama.

Might be fun.

I reply to those messages with the url to my meetup group.

Ain't I a stinker?:p

I normally don't reply to messages that are winks or simple 'Hi, whats up?'. Id take the time to answer someone who has read my profile.

It's laziness. They initiate with the least amount of effort and expect you to take the rein. How do you expext to start a conversation from "Hi"?

I just pulled something from her profile to ask her about then asked her another question.

She answered my question & ignored the one about her profile.

No questions of her own.

i'll respond tomorrow but if she doesn't show any life in her next response she won't hear from me again.

Half the time the men who just say "Hi" or "Wanna chat?" have no photos on their profiles.

I got "hi" sometimes when I was doing OLD.

Annoying.

Or sometimes I would get "Hit me back if you wanna talk."

As if!

See that's just it... online dating is nothing but a virtual ego boost no matter the reply. I've talked to many men who responds with no qs of yheir own. They're usually just no that interested.

The "Hi" messages really bug me but what REALLY bugs me as a female is when you first start dating someone or any guy in general for that matter will text you the line

"Hey, what's up?"

Guys, I beg you to stop it!! Say something, anything other than that!!!!

Sometimes I reply to 'hi' just to amuse myself or to prove myself wrong. It's a waste of time every time. They can't carry a conversation or have absolutely nothing to say.

Sometimes laziness. Sometimes I think it's genuinely cluelessness from people who have no idea how to start a conversation online with a stranger (on a dating site or otherwise).

Is it also sometime arrogance? With a mindset along the lines of "now that I've drawn his/her attention to my profile and my obvious interest, he/she will naturally want to talk to me!"

Also, sometimes, I suspect it's boredom from people who aren't taking it seriously.

I think most of the time this is the reason. Can't be that high % clueless guys on those sites.
