Introduction

If dating is a numbers game, then I will determine my odds with acquaintances, and will display my anecdotal data for your critique.

Target Population

I intend to discriminate by age, but not by attractiveness. Ideally, a measured correlation between scaled attractiveness and positive responses is attainable.

Personal Information

I am a lanky, mildly attractive young adult with a limited income. I have had two long term relationships, but am nevertheless skittish and awkward.

Trial One: Rejection

With abrupt inspiration, I called over to a woman (and her friend) that were thirty feet lateral to my location, as we were exiting proximal stores.

She was quite attractive; I perceived her to physically be around the 85th percentile, although her friend was below the mean level of attractiveness for my area.

"Excuse me, I'm sorry for bothering you, but you're very pretty, and I was wondering if you'd let me buy you coffee sometime?" There was a pause.

After the two glanced at one another, she stated, "I'm sorry, I don't know you." at which point I made a graceless tactical retreat.

Hindsight

In retrospect, the attempt was doomed to fail from the beginning, as I was not in her line of sight initially, and was wielding a package of toilet paper.

To make matters worse, I did an odd, hybridized jog-skip towards her while the two waited. I doubt it was appealing.

Question

I wonder if asking out the less attractive girl in a group would decrease the relative likelihood for rejection (in neutral circumstances?)
