I was at a networking event and something interesting happened. I was chatting with a colleague and this girl approached us and cut me out completely from the conversation. It wasn't a big deal but I thought it was really rude. I could have butted back in but the new topic she was talking about I wasn't interested in. What do you guys think? I just left the conversation and found another one. Even though it wasn't a big deal, I was sort of enjoying my conversation with my friend. She very briefly apologize for butting in but she just took over, WTF? (btw, what I meant by conversation was she just kept talking, my friend sort of shifted attention but hadn't said anything since she started talking, few mins in I just left).

IME, this is kind of common in networking events, especially when there are hierarchies at play or when people are seeking to position themselves in one way or another. Not saying it's a good thing, but it often comes with the territory.

Well how anal do you want to be? You could get back at her and interrupt her conversation some time. Or spread a rumor about her.
