Woo hoo! Just set up a Loveshack meet and greet party event weekend...

This is so exciting. I have my google maps open so I can see the places you guys are suggesting now (west coast), and they all seem in the same general area.

I probably do give off a desperate vibe these days.

Do you think that going to LA for this "adventure" is going to cure you of this vibe? :(

Papercut is young and gorgeous and living in NYC and she hasn't been able to find a boyfriend. What makes you think I would have more luck?

Haha as much I love being quoted, I do have the worst luck with men.:p

But you can certainly find lots of guys to date, shortterm.

I can't know for sure. But sometimes getting out of ones environment can help shake things up, and often provides new perspectives and opportunities.

So maybe it won't change anything big, but it will no doubt have some effect on me even in the short term. This year is about change for me, letting go of the old and being open to the next part of my life. And that doesn't just mean answering questions about single or not, but also career(?), where to live (? countries, cities, or stay where I am).

Really I started this thread to see what response I would get, and quite a few people want to meet up, so that in itself makes the trip seem like a great idea. It's been 5yrs since I went overseas, so it is long overdue.

Alaska?!?!

Ok you got me. :o I dismissed alaska (too far, too cold).

Men in Alaska outnumber the women by a large margin. The odds are good -- but the goods are odd.

New Zealand is closer.

I already spent 4yrs of my life in Canada. That was more then enough freezing my butt off for one lifetime.

Thanks anyway.

I'm curious how people get the idea that NZ is 'freezing', tbh - I've heard comments to that effect a number of times. Sure, it's freezing compared to its neighbour Aussie, but the winters there are actually a lot milder than the majority of North America, and comparable to the Mediterranean countries. The temperature rarely goes below 0 even in the South Island.

Unless you were referring to Alaska (which FitChick was advising against, anyway), in which case I totally agree :D

I was referring to Alaska.

But New Zealand is colder then Sydney. And australian tend to make fun of them.

I am frightened that there is such a thing as a professional gamer and "netcaster". ::shudder

I don't understand why anyone from Australia would want to come here, especially LA, but if it makes Titania happy she should go for it. I've always wanted to go to Australia, so maybe when she comes here, I'll go there and we can compare adventures.

Are you saying you can't stand to be in the same country as me?

What's so frightening? It's just like football, really. ;)

Yes, that is exactly what I am saying. I have been waiting for years for you to get out of Australia so that I can visit there.

Nothing personal.

Seriously?

I've been in LA for over 20 years and well...

Good luck with that!

Isn't that the truth. If you are looking for a LTR Los Angeles is not the place. There's tons of competition in L.A.

I hope you have a great refreshing trip to LA and get a great experience out of it, but it's probably the worst city in America (okay, maybe Miami is the worst) to meet decent men, so take that FWIW.

I don't live anywhere near there, but I've been there many times and lived there for 3 months once. I wasn't a fan, though it can be a fun place. That said, sometimes just going ANYWHERE can re-charge your batteries.

I think what FitChick suggested is a great plan. It's what I did before moving to my city, and I had a new relationship when I landed. It wasn't ultimately right but lasted awhile and definitely got me to a place where I could meet hubby. And, anyway, I made some friends in the area through dating (OKC) and meetup sites before coming, which made life easier.

I plan to do this because I want to move. I'd like to make friends with men in various parts of the country (or world) in places I might like to live, then go there for a weekend (or week) to check it out. It's more fun than being on your own and they can tell you more about the place.

I am about to take 8 salsa lessons as soon as I book them in. So maybe that would be my cup on tea.

Sure, LA is enough of a center of salsa dancing that we have our own style, unsurprisingly named "LA style". 8 lessons you'll still be a beginner, unless you're very talented and/or have experience with other styles of dancing. Usually it takes 6 months to a year to get comfortable. But the most important thing is to not get intimidated and have fun.

If you end up liking salsa dancing, you should at least spend one night dancing in LA while you're out here. I won't take you to the snobby places where everyone is in an imaginary dance competition with everyone else.

PM me if you're interested. But if I do take you out some place, most likely my GF, who is also a salsa dancer, will go too. I'll get some of my friends to go as well and make it a group thing, so you won't feel like the extra wheel.

I think you'll have fun in LA, but don't expect anything more. Mme. Chaucer is right, LA is soul destroying.

Oh and I checked out Sean Plott... no comment, but I hope you find whatever you're looking for.

NZ certainly is, but kiwi bros are not exotic enough they're too much like those useless aussie blokes, and they have funny accent bro.

I wonder many of the alaskan men are big on on-line gaming, thats a must.

The thing is, Titania lives in Sydney, its not like some 1 pub outback town, its a cosmopolitan city of 4.6m. lol.

Regardless a trip to USA would be a good adventure for her.
