Mary Shadows Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 What does it mean when a man asks a woman her ethnicity? Is it an attemp to strike a conversation? Or is it curiousity? Or perhaps, I am analyzing it too much. What are your thoughts? I am somewhat attracted to this man, and I'm curious about him.
CC12 Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Is it an attemp to strike a conversation? Or is it curiousity? Maybe both? Or maybe he's a racist and wants to know how pure you are. Did you answer him?
mtber75 Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Both Curiously and conversation starter. Where I'm from this comes in handy because everyone is a transplant or of mixed ethnic groups here. It gets them talking in a more personal level! If your are white, I'll ask which which part (in Europe) are you from and that gets them talking because they have to dig out their family tree way back (if their born in America). I had several incidences where women would hesitate to answer or be down right hostile to this question? Well that's their problem which I don't care about. 1
aj22one Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Curiosity usually. At least for me it is. I usually ask when a girl tells me her name.
FitChick Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Curiosity usually. At least for me it is. I usually ask when a girl tells me her name. I am fascinated by names. Their origins and meanings. If I can't guess nationality by name, and it's something very different, I will ask out of curiosity. Don't worry, I'm sure someone will decide it's politically incorrect and demand that people use a number instead of a name. 1

I was curious why he asked, simply because no man has ever asked me this.
