I wish Obama was even a little bit of a socialist. ;) But see you can't compare a one-issue stance to a wide political spectrum like socialism and capitalism; there isn't going to be the vast array of nuance.

There is a spectrum of "pro life" vs. "pro choice" to a degree, in that people believe in differing KINDS of legal restrictions and so forth, but it's all about the legal restrictions, not about whether or not you "like" abortions (hint: nobody does).

There are personal morals involved as well, but if you don't wish your morals were legalized, you're still pro-choice. You're allowing others the space to choose and accepting that the morality is personal, rather than universal. That's at the very heart of the pro-choice movement, in fact.

Um no. There are pro lifers who very much believe in never ending a life...who do not support abortion in any way...but have a "well thats just the way the world is" attitude about it.

Its entirely possible to hold an opposing belief and viewpoint, yet accept that the world doesnt do everything the way you want.

Like I said, you are looking like this in extremes. Nothing is all extremes, not for either side.

Meh. Im torn on the death penalty. While I do think dirtbags who kill dont deserve life...I also feel getting a quick death is an easy out. They should rot in jail for life, but that does cost tax dollars.

Technically, it costs WAY less to keep someone in jail for life than to kill them. At least the way we do it. But that's OT, so I apologize.

Holding the belief that legal restrictions should be placed on abortion, regardless of your ability to see such restrictions put into effect or how much energy you choose to put towards it, would make you pro-life, yes. I wasn't saying pro-lifers couldn't be lazy, defeatist, or whatever about it. If they want to see it made illegal, they're pro-life. There are certainly people who are more active and less active.

^Im telling you that she had no opinions on the legality...what is she then? And it is a moral issue. jeez

If she believes it should be legal but is immoral based on her own personal system, she is still pro-choice. This conversation reminds me of an episode of West Wing where religious freaks were all shocked that the Catholic President Bartlett spoke to at-risk women's groups about not having abortions and were all, "But you're pro-choice." And he was all, "Yes, I am written to be a sympathetic political conundrum, deal with it." ;)

What if someone believes it should be illegal but is not determined to work on making it illegal? They feel "well if I could id make any taking of life illegal...but it is what it is in this world...so thats life"

Like I said its not black and white.

Their belief is still pro-life. Most people don't work on every single political belief they have. Most Americans are not exactly politically active.

Thank you. They are political terms with VERY CLEAR definitions.

What? If they think abortion should be legal, then politically they are Pro-choice.

Why is this difficult to understand? They are words with definitions in this case. They are black and white. It is really NOT a difficult concept. As was mentioned, plenty of Pro-choice people would never choose to have an abortion. They still think women should have a choice. If you DONT think women should LEGALLY HAVE A CHOICE, YOU ARE PRO-LIFE. That is a fking FACT. If you DO think women LEGALLY SHOULD HAVE A CHOICE, YOU ARE PRO-CHOICE. That is a fking FACT.

God damn. It's NOT difficult to understand, this is what those words mean when it comes to legislation, etc. I don't give a FK if someone chooses not to have an abortion themself. That's NOT what this is about. Again, not difficult to understand.

Ugh, done with this, if people can't recognize simple definitions....fk it...damn. Really....:rolleyes::rolleyes:

You and Kiss seem so insulated from anyone that may have a difference of opinion that you clearly don't get it.

The issue isn't JUST abortion. The issue is who is a human being or a person or whatever... and who isn't.

And just what does that impact, besides abortion?

It wouldn't bother me because I'd never be faced with that dilemma personally. I'd agree to not discuss it if it became heated because neither of us would be likely to change our minds.

Well. . . . let's not get carried away. Some labels are pretty damn accurate.

Jes sayin'. ;)

You have no idea what socialism is if you think Obama is anything close to a true red.

And this is why it is a dealbreaker for some people.

I'm married. I've carried and birthed this man's children. Still, if at some point in the future I feel I need an abortion (it would have to be a terribly desperate situation), I need a man who will support my choice.

Understandable. Id be ok with my wifes choice if we already had kids...but if she took away my potential children when I had none yet, then Id feel a bit weird toward her for a whole.

Shes free to make her own choice, but despite being pro choice, I will feel a certain way about it. The situation isnt easy to pin down.

Stem cells, day after pill, IUD's, Genetic defect issues, capital crimes... and the list goes on.

A great example is this. A woman is 2 weeks pregnant gets murdered. Pro-Life advocates believe that is a double homicide. Pro-Choice advocates will claim the baby wasn't alive.

We are getting way off the original topic. I am deeply saddened that so many members aren't able to address the topic of the thread. This is not a thread about the pros and cons of abortion. Thanks
