Hey Guys,

You will never guess what I found today!

I took myself out for a walk, because I figured I would have a better of meeting someone if I left the house.

And I met him. He was crossing the road, and I looked at him and he looked back and kept walking. And so I watched him walk away, and he turned around to see if I was watching him. And I held his eye contact (which can be a challenge when you can't even see someones eyes (bad eyesight)). And he walked back. And I asked him out and exchanged numbers with him.

Now get this! He looked like a slightly chubby Wil Wheaten, he was born in California and moved here when he was 4 and still has the accent. His skin was pale and he was carrying some extra weight and so I kept thinking "Oh My God, he could be a gamer!" What can I say, my hope springs eternal.

Anyway he was walking back to work after his lunch break, so what time do you think would be a good time to call? And any tips as to what I should say or suggest we get together to do would be welcome.

I still can't believe a found a white guy with an american accent in sydney. So hot!

(My personal challenge in this case is the beard, I have always avoided facial hair like the plague in the past, but I think it is time to face it. Any tips about kissing bearded men would be appreciated.)

And in other news, further along in my walk I actually saw a guy in the library with a girl, who was a day9 lookalike, no kidding!

And then I passed a hot guy smoking under a bridge, and I totally would have gone for him too, except smoking is a disgusting habit. I would much rather face a beard then cigarette breath.

All in all a good day to leave the house. BTW Chubby Wil Wheaten > Day 9 lookalike.

Sounds exciting for him. You did the best thing a woman can do to get a man, leave your house and look at them.

I also was the one that did the asking out. Don't forget that.

I know, I took that as a sign of interest. :)

So guys should I call? What time? What should I say?

Valentines day is tomorrow, should I avoid it completely and ask him out for sometime after that?

I tend to be really awkward on the phone, so having something somewhat scripted might at least get me through. Otherwise I will probably just go brain dead, and end up forgetting to ask him out at all.

I find it funny that she actually mentioned California accent.

Uh, California is probably the only place in the world where we don't have an accent. Of course I've heard that the only reason people from Cali think we don't have accents is because we are used to them. To that, I wonder if people from Australia believe they don't have an accent.

On topic:

Titania22, I'd highly suggest waiting, give him a few days to call you. Don't think about v-day at all.

If he doesn't call you in a few days, call him, remind him who you are then invite him out for a Fosters and shrimp on the barbie.

:lmao:

(Sorry, I had to)

It's nice to hear something good in this forum :) And well done :)

I believe that the energy you put out there is the energy you get back. And look!

Kaylan I am always going on about how sexy (many not all) american accents are, I love them so much. They get me hot. Worldwide they are my most favourite accents. And we have alot of different ethnicities living here in australia, but americans are really rare.

Really wait a few days, if a guy makes me wait a few days, I have already deleted his number and forgotten about him. From the forum I have learnt that when a guy waits a few days, it indicates low interest or been kept as a backup. I don't want the guy to think that I am doing that to him.

Yeah, well it's not like I could plan this, it was a totally random meeting. But I am behaving in a more positive way towards getting out there, then I was last year. I think I am becoming more audacious as well. Like flat out staring at someone until they have to turn around and come back, instead of getting all coy and shy when they notice. It was so funny when the guy started walking back to me, like he wasn't sure, he would take a couple small steps and stop then take a couple more. It was like his eye sight was as bad as mine and he wasn't sure if i was looking at him, or just in his direction.

Honestly, I don't have any real experience in this as I would never exchange numbers with a random stranger. She would have had to leave a huge impression on me for me to consider it.

I'm mostly used to situations where I've talked to the woman a few times before we exchange numbers and then I'd call her a few days later so I don't seem too needy.

I'm happy for you!

A hairy, pale, chubby, white guy with no accent is a needle in the haystack in Australia! And the women approach the men? I'm in the wrong country LOL :lmao:

I've been doing all this working out, tanning, and daily shaving for nothing!:D I"ve got the accent covered...it doesn't get anymore flat than the Midwest!

Accents, like most other traits, are always hawt when they're rare. :) I have an Israeli friend who finds Brit accents sexy, a British friend who finds French accents sexy, and.. okay, admittedly, I've never met anyone who found an Aussie accent sexy. But yeah, everyone tends to: 1) believe they don't have an accent, and 2) find certain foreign accents sexier than their own.

It's just human nature to prize that which is more rare, I guess. I come from a tropical country where women splurge on skin whitening creams, and I laughed my ass off when I moved to a Caucasian country where women were bemoaning how 'pasty' they looked and splurging on tanning salons...

The English language is not originally from California so ofcourse people there have an accent.

Aussies know they have an accent :)

Aussie women will go crazy for foreign accents. The American accent is usually at the top of the list... Probably because this country is so Americanized.

My favoured accent (when she's speaking English) in women is Scottish but men aren't as attracted to an accent as much as women are I believe.

^Trust me, guys love accents just as much as women do.

I definitely need to visit Australia one day for a dating experiment lol. See how far my voice gets me haha.

News to me.

Don't know about dating but you'll pull heaps of roots.

All that crap about men's height you read about on this forum doesn't seem to exist either in this country.

My experience has been that 90% of the crap you read about in this forum doesn't seem to exist in most countries. :)

Could be so.

I can only comment about what I've learned through my experiences in the countries I've lived in and travelled to.

I've never been to the USA so I don't know how true the men's height thing is there. I do know that Americans are taller on average than Australians are.

Good luck Titania, I hope you'll find some happiness. I think it'd be adorable if you both started gaming together as girlfriend and boyfriend. Lots of guys wish for a girlfriend like that. I myself kind of lost interest in video games, but I can see the appeal.

Nostalgia. Maybe one day I'll pick it up again, who knows.

I've always wondered why Brits and Aussies can do an American accent so easily if they want to but when you ask an American to do a British or Aussie accent it sounds worse than cats having sex. I've also wondered why everyone who sings in English seems to sing in American English. Adele sings like she is American as they come and when she speaks, she sounds like she should be on a roof in London, sweeping chimneys.

Wonder no more, just consider how much music, tv and movies come out of america, and even internet presence (a max of 20M Aussies, 60M British and 200M American). The american voice is something most of us hear alot.

So I haven't called him yet, it's 8:17am on valentines day, and somedude was the only one who gave an opinion on when i should call. If no-one comes up with a better idea, I will call tomorrow night.

LOL, it's V day already over there? It's 2-13, 1:30 PM in Cali.

Yeah tomorrow should be fine.

I wish this guy would have called you by now.

We all wish that. However, in my experience men rarely call. Text, email, skype message yes, call on a phone not so much.
