BlackBantie Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 I'm in a predicament. There's a guy who works upstairs who I would like to ask out before Valentine's Day. He's a very shy and quiet guy but during our conversations at lunch, we seem to click pretty well. I figure since he's so shy I should just make a move. I don't really have anything to lose. Ideally I would like to ask him out no later than tomorrow night. I worked today and was hoping that I would see him, but he wasn't at work today. I work tomorrow and then I'm off until after Valentine's Day. Tomorrow is really my last chance. The problem is that I don't know if he's going to be there at work tomorrow. I don't know anyone upstairs who I could ask about his schedule without seeming very weird. I found his Facebook and he has his wall set so that the public can see it. He seems to be active on it. If I'm unable to see him at work tomorrow, would it be bad if I asked him out on Facebook? I HATE doing this kind of stuff over Facebook, email, whatever, because it's so impersonal. But it might be my only opportunity. I was thinking of writing something like, "Hey, I was hoping that I would be able to catch you at work this weekend, but since you weren't there, I have to resort to Facebook. I was wondering if you wanted to go out on Valentine's Day, blah blah blah." Any recommendations?? Would Facebook be okay?

make me believe Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 No, don't ask him out over facebook. If you don't see him tomorrow, just do it some other time. There's no reason you HAVE to ask him out before Valentines Day.
TuffCookieX Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 I would wait to ask him, definitely send him a friend request on facebook and then see if maybe he talks to you first. But first date on V-day is a no-no anyway.
ja123 Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Ask him out for something casual after work. Preferably a Thursday - not a Friday as it's too date-ish. Don't ask him out for Valentines Day: too much pressure for a first date, and makes you look desperate.
skieran Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Hi BlackBantie, I've got a similiar problem trying to ask a girl out but my only real means of communication is via facebook. I met her at work but she is finishing uni and landed a role in a play so hardly comes in to work. I haven't known her that long so 'work-mates' is as close a relationship we have but I really like her and facebook is my only way to talk to her. I was thinking of using Valentine's in some way but finally decided against it. In my head it seems really romantic but from her perspective it might seem really impulsive and possibly a little creepy as a result. My problem is thinking what to ask her via facebook and where to post (ie on the wall or a PM) I hate using facebook so much but when it's your only option... I occassionally post on her wall just generally enqiring how she is and how her play and essay's are going. I'm just trying to plan the right time to maybe ask her out. If I had my way I wouldn't use facebook. Like you say, it is so hard to get any feeling or emtion across. After a few messgaes between us I might just ask her out for coffee if she wants a break from her essay and rehearsals and put a at the end - just to try and make it sound more like a friendly catch up. Here's the link to my thread. There ight be some advice people have gave me that you could use. There might equally not be of use to you but it doesn't hurt to let you in. http://www.loveshack.org/forums/t313534/ Hope it all goes well as it sounds we're both in the same kind of boat! sKieran
