Is this a big deal? I have seven guns in my home, and never thought it was a big deal until this girl I had over saw my AK-47 and totally flipped out, and wanted to go home.

Guns are illegal where I live, but if they weren't, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

If someone wants to kill you, there are plenty of household items they could use.

Maybe the girl looked at the guns as a political difference she couldn't deal with.

AK? Nice. I have a Nagant revolver and a glock. They're not out in the open tough so no one ever sees them.

My gf is perfectly fine with guns, but whenever I've been single I often wonder how the average woman feels about guns in the house.

I was wondering that, but she looked at the gun and looked at me, and looked scared ...lol..I live in a State in the Southwest United States where gun laws are very lenient and hunting and gun ownership in general are just part of the culture and popular. She was a city girl from the east coast, so maybe that had something to do with it?

I wouldn't have an AK just hanging out in the open, I think it would be best to have that stuff put away especially If a lady is coming over. Seems creepy or either Hill Billyish If you have that **** laying around or up against a wall, she doesn't know you that well and that can be creepy.

Perhaps. I'm in VA we have fairly lenient laws too. My gf is Pakistani and from NY, but she's really libertarian (like an anarchist), so maybe it's a political thing. Haha.

I'm Libertarian and come from an area where hunting and guns are the norm for most people but if I walked in a guys house and saw an AK just laying around that would probably freak me out too. That stuff should be kept safe and locked up. It's irresponsible to leave it just laying around. Especially if you are bringing a new-sh person into your house (even if it's me). Not to mention if it's just laying like you're going to need it quickly around I might think you're kind of nuts or into some kind of trouble...

Just for the record I'm not one of these militant second amendment creepos with guns just lying around all over the place. They are typically secured and out of sight, although i do keep one in a convenient place for protection in case someone tries to break in when I am home.

Around the area where I live/or have lived, if you own an AK-47, it means you're a druglord or gangbanger.

Haha...nope, I am in LE actually, so quite the contrary!

Around here, it just means that you've found the perfect gun for feral hogs.

I just quoted the title of this thread in my Facebook status, and three people liked it in less than five minutes.

lol...

To answer the question: yes, probably. I'd be afraid the guy would shoot me at some point. I have a temper and do tend to push things when in arguments. I drove my ex-boyfriend crazy with my persistence and failure to 'give it a rest' in arguments. Plus I'm just a bitch sometimes. I'm sure any man who dated me for longer than three months or so would be tempted to shoot me.

Posted

If he had firearms training, I'd ask him to teach me how to shoot. I think it's a good skill to have.

Who cares what others think? If they don't approve of your lifestyle, then it's probably not meant to be anyway.

I own 3 guns (rifle, shotgun, and subcompact pistol). All three serve a distinct purposes (versus just being "collected"). My gf has been shown how to use all 3, and actually enjoys shooting them (especially the rifle and shotgun). She was not a big "gun person" when I met her, though her dad and brothers own shotguns for hunting, so she wasn't completely foreign to the concept.

My main concern with gun ownership is safety. Whether a person has one gun or 40, it needs to be secured properly, well maintained, and handled with the diligence to safety it demands. Having been around people in the past who were less than observant about firearms safety, I can tell you that it's extremely off-putting. I have stopped hanging out with a couple of former acquaintances because of this. Not only are risking their own lives, but they're risking the lives of others.

I guess my view on it is sort of a double standard. I love my 2nd Amendment rights, but there are definitely some folks that should not be around firearms...

I think they should teach gun safety in elementary schools...

Back to the dating front, in my mind, having a weapon out in the open, while within your rights, is not good practice for multiple reasons. Most of the women I've met, including my own girlfriend, come to accept or even appreciate the fact that you're a gun owner provided, from day 1, that you show that you are committed to safely owning/operating your guns, 100 percent of the time, without exception.

Unless he's in law enforcement, yeah it would freak me out.

Unless he was a police officer I would never date someone with a gun. Why do so many people have to have them? all they do is kill. its ridiculous.

While I am in LE, the AK-47 is obviously not issued by my agency. It was not carelessly lying around either, it was behind book case. I had just bought a couple of new clips for it, and had not put it away. My training and experience has taught me the vital importance of gun safety and how fraught the ramifications can be if one is careless or not trained adequately

Come on OP, you should know better. Its not a good look to have weapons laying around when you have new women over. Thats gonna be alarming to anyone to be honest. I have no issue with people owning guns, but Id be suspicious of someone who just has a gun laying out when I first visit their place.

After someone gets to know you then you can leave that kinda stuff out. Tbh I feel guns should be kept in drawers, lock boxes, and closets

Today I didn't even have to use my AK... I'd have to say it was a good day.

(hopefully everyone can appreciate a little Ice Cube here, ammirite?)

I used to own an AK-74 (5.45x 39 mm variant). I bought it for cheap, and profited on the sale. :) Twas a "blast" to shoot. I miss it sometimes.

Aren't these types of assault weapons (I.E "AK-47) used more within the military?

Storing an assault rifle behind a bookcase doesn't sound very safe, but if it is your house, that's your business. Just know that bringing a date over and her seeing a rifle poking out from behind a bookcase, would most likely send her off and running.

You have this wrong. Guns don't kill people. People kill people. If they don't have a gun, chances are they would still use a knife, car, baseball bat, etc...

And we wonder why the world is going to ****... People like this vote!

Most of the AK's that civilians own are semi-automatic variants and not fully automatic. They are widely available and cheap, making them popular plinking (target shooting) guns. The primary reason for owning one is simple: they are a lot of fun to shoot. Period.

Actully snug bunny AK's are perfectly legal in my State as long as they are not fully automatic. I guess I need to just be cognizant of the fact that guns are a visceral issue to some and be sensitive to that.

I'll surmise it'may be a guy thing. I've always wanted to go to a shooting range, a nice little handgun seems suitable enough for me. ;)

Hmmm, I wonder what a guy would think if he came over and saw I had a handgun poking out of me drawer....

I imagine it might make them think twice about suddenly grabbing a handful of boob.
