Men: how would you feel if you found out your girl watches porn?

Maybe porn should be outlawed, along with cosmetic surgery. And, cosmetics in general. In fact, abolish all imagery featuring and elevating physical attributes of women that are being promoted in this decadent society as "beautiful" and / or "attractive" and / or "sexy."

Perhaps there should also be a legal mandate in place requiring the wearing of a "modest" garment by all women, like a burka.

That ought to take care of it.

If you truly believe an attack on porn is an attack on men, then you believe that porn and men are synonyms and you heavily connect men and their sexuality to the industry of porn.

Porn used as a tool to disparage men is an attack on men. An attack on porn alone is simply an attack on porn.

I think it's a combination of both. Obviously you are going to have your natural preferences. But there is a heavy influence from porn about what men find attractive too.
Whatever influence porn inflicts is minimal.

I absolutely agree that women play their part. But we do live in a world that picks apart women and their bodies. And we can't tell women to ignore these messages and be so self confident while at the same time justfying the things men do that contribute to that message. That's kind of where I stand on this. I think it makes logical sense.
Lets get the mix right. Simply suggesting that both men and women have a part in all this denotes a 50-50 split. That is wrong. By far the largest determinant of female body image is women themselves. And for most, it starts when they are young, well before any boy or man is to be seen in their lives.

I think it's a lot more complicated than that. Images of women's bodies and feminine beauty have long been used as advertising tools, to sell to both men and women. The advertising / entertainment industries in concert have done a lot to drive what is culturally deemed "ideal" with regards to the physical appearance of women. We women ourselves, as a whole, have bought into it, promoted it, and nurtured it amongst ourselves, as you say, starting at a very young age and not relating very much to men.

Norms and ideals change as time goes on, and all aspects of media help to spread and "normalize" the changes. At this moment in time, since porn is readily viewable for almost anyone, it's part of the media that helps to reinforce things for us. One example of this, in my opinion, anyway, is the "normalization" of hairless crotches. When I was young, shaving "down there" was considered kind of freaky and unique. Now, it seems like pubic hair is freaky and unique. That can probably be attributed to everybody seeing lots of shaved pussies all the time.

In any case, demonizing the media or what men (or women) like gets nobody anywhere.

It's only complicated if you want it to be. Simple fact is men have little input into how women choose to present themselves. Few men dictate to their women how they should look. It is that simple.

I attribute this to the "sheep herd" nature of people.

In my experience, only women have put me down physically. Never men.

Women have insulted everything from my hair color and style, to my facial features, to my body. Men? Never. They may not all be attracted to me (surely not), but when they've had something to say, it has always been admiring. The same features that the women cut down, the men compliment!

When I was at school I was always being teased and bullied by boys and later men. From primary school to university and beyond, women have been my most wonderful and loyal friends or acquaintances. NEVER ever they said a bad word about me (or behind my back). I don't understand women bashing their OWN gender... It's sad...

I disagree. My preferences are the same now as they were before I ever saw any porn. By the way, I don't like anything fake on a woman.

OK. Perhaps it was this way for you. But not true for many other documented cases.

Again I disagree. The differences between men and women are caused by the physical differences in men and womens anatomy. Our brains are physically different, our bodies are different, the levels of different hormones produced by men and women are vastly different. These things effect what we want and desire.

I disagree also. Trust me, I got my first degree in Biology, 2 Masters in Biomedical research and just finished my PhD in Biochemistry. lol I would know if genes were the sole parameters for the gender differences. They DO play indeed a significant role, but they mean nothing without the environment.

I know. I would like it if this activity would be confined to its own forum or something. It's dragging the atmosphere down badly.

Isn't this thread about how men would feel if their girls watched porn?

Then why respond to a topic *YOU* think is dragging the atmosphere down? Are you not contributing to what you complain about?

I have had more disparaging things said about my body from men, more then women. Most women I've known have been encouraging of one another.

I don't think the topic is dragging the atmosphere down. If we can stay on the topic.

I just thought it might be nice for you and for the rest of us if you had your own area to vent so other topics than your chosen one could gain some momentum without getting the old albatross treatment over and over again.

Which is why I said, "then why respond to a topic *YOU*...", not "the topic".

You haven't exactly been a leader on staying on topic and then you complain about it.

I offered you an olive branch in another thread so you and I didn't have to bore the board with bickering but you completely ignored that and no matter where I post, you or Joystick aren't far beyond making little comments about how me. If you think this behavior helps the board as well, you are lying to yourself.

Lets both try to get along.

Anyway....

Back on topic.

I'd be perfectly fine with it. We'd watch porn together. It's fun. I've done it before.
