silvermercy Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 I thought petit meant short with a somewhat slender, not-so-muscular build. If you're too curvy, you probably fall out of that category, like Elizabeth Taylor. I've never heard her being called petit. And I would also not assume that the girl-next-door-look has anything to do with a woman's height. I thought it about looking natural and having a healthy glow. I only mentioned that because the pornographic images, the poster I was replying to mentioned, do not have anything to do with height either. Many pornstars may have a similar (enhanced) body type but their height varies immensely. Also, the reason fashion industry uses tall and anorexic models is because they believe their clothes look better this way: as in coat hangers. That's what they claim anyway.
Oxy Moronovich Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Please for the love of God, someone notify all the petite women in the world (there are billions of them unfortunately) that their partners are settling and would have preferred a taller woman instead, like those promoted in the media! Please someone save them and tell them the truth!? In the meantime leaflets should be thrown off airplanes about what women really like (as this is not so promoted so much): http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=sexy+hunks&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=2302l3041l1l3151l4l4l0l0l0l1l125l400l2.2l4l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&biw=1366&bih=664&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=8ccuT7STJcPT0QXk752tCA Fair is fair. @kaylan: if you read his post he's not really saying SOME men prefer that and SOME men prefer the other. The "girl next door" is the most popular real-world image actually. Surely peeps here won't make me dig statistics now? There are billions of petite women throughout the world? Your credibility just took a nose-dive. I also hate it when people say, "Europe thinks differently than America" as if Europe is one large, homogenous country. One part of Europe has completely different atittudes than another part of Europe. Perhaps in the UK flat chests and rear ends are appreciated. But after spending time in Continental Europe (which has a different culture than the UK), I've met many men who say they like busty and round rear ends. The Playboy model type is way more popular than petite. Plus, there are guys all over the world who love BBWs. They make up a significant number of the male population. silvermercy, you're trying way too hard to discredit me and prove your point: --by invoking against my nationality, as if American males are a different species of males than European. --by showing charts that don't prove anything. --by discrediting me by saying that I said. You're the one who said the majority of men love petite women. I just said some men love them. Saying some is much more reasonable. The number of men who love petite women are far from the majority. --the fact that you got way too hysterical. What's the deal with all the caps locks and exclamation points? --the fact that you swung from one end of the argument to the other. First you say, "Also, how come ALL the guys (I mean ALL) I have encountered both online and in real life (dates, friends, relatives, men, women, old, young) have always mentioned about how petite women are what MOST men prefer? ALL of them!!!" then you say this, "That is TRUE. That's why I'd like to emphasize what I said earlier was about MY experiences. Hopefully, the other men here will do the same; i.e. not claim it's about the majority of their gender but down to their own experiences Indeed, as you said: "Everybody's preferences are different." According to you, silvermercy, one moment all men love the billions of petite women then at the next moment "everyone's preferences are different"? It seems like my post about "putting the OP at unease" is what got you so hysterical. The fact is this: some men like petite women; but they are far from the majority.

kaylan Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 (edited) So porno look is natural but petite is not natural? (Because that's what I gathered from your post in general.)No. You are still not getting what I am saying. I am saying that the girl next door idea is subjective from male to male. UNFORTUNATELY, if we go by the media/porn look only a plastic surgeon can make someone look sexy in this society. Not so much about being lazy but about having the money and the will to undergo several plastic surgery procedures. Porno bodies are very different from model bodies in the media. People can go to the gym and eat right to get model bodies. No plastic surgery needed to get sexy. Just hard work and a good diet. Lets be real. Also, how come ALL the guys (I mean ALL) I have encountered both online and in real life (dates, friends, relatives, men, women, old, young) have always mentioned about how petite women are what MOST men prefer? ALL of them!!! No exception. One thing I hear for example is how desirable Asian women are due to their SMALL size. ALL THE TIME. For them, it's a PLUS. Perhaps it's because I live in the other side of the Atlantic? Europe? I seriously don't understand Americans...Obviously the guys are going to say petite is what most guys like since YOU are petite. If you were curvier and tall like a model, theyd say the SAME thing. They are flattering you duh. Ive heard girls tell me I had the body type most chicks like when I was slimmer, but after working out some I got more attention and the SAME compliment. Asian women are desired for their scarcity imo. Theres not many of them in most Western nations. Asians make 5% of the American population at most. Its no different from when my homeboy was stationed in Japan or Germany and girls were throwing themselves at him since he was black. He was seen as this exotic novelty. And asians are liked for being in shape in comparison to Americans. I guess thatd make them seem tiny when we have so many big folks here. Their cultures dont really give lee way for being big like Western nations. Thank goodness I'm proportionate in case I find myself on the other side of the pond! LOL! Its really all about proportion. As long as a chick has a womanly body and is in shape I dont care if shes average height, tall, or petite. Edited February 5, 2012 by kaylan
silvermercy Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 One good thing I'm happy about my real life is that I won't get to meet LS' superficial posters ever in my real life. @ kaylan No, they weren't just talking to me specifically. My best friends for example don't need to flatter me when they talk about their male friends' talk. No, their reasoning about Asian girls was different and other than scarcity. It was specifically smaller size and cuteness.
kaylan Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 That is TRUE. That's why I'd like to emphasize what I said earlier was about MY experiences. Hopefully, the other men here will do the same; i.e. not claim it's about the majority of their gender but down to their own experiences Indeed, as you said: "Everybody's preferences are different." (unfortunately sometimes these preferences are influenced by whatever "next hot thing" is promoted at any given era. I mean... men and women sworn mullets were HOT in the 80s! rofl) You were the one that said most men like the type of woman that you happen to be. I said everyone likes different things from the get go. I also said that there are certain things that turn on many women and men as well. For all the differences in things we all like, there are things we like that are in common with others likes. Their are certain things that are innately attractive in men and women that we cannot control. Then there are things that we learn to find attractive based on what society we grow up in.
Ninjainpajamas Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Just to insert my 2 cents.. I'm 6'1 and always been attracted to short/petite women rather than taller, leaner or skinny type. I also prefer curvy women rather than modelish type, I'm more of a swimsuit model kinda guy. I would have no problems with the OP height and weight, I think men shouldn't make such a big deal of it and she shoudl be able to dress and feel liek what she wants to. Be confident, If men start to say something about it just change the subject "So what do you find interesting about me besides my size?" .

My best friends for example don't need to flatter me when they talk about their male friends' talk. No, their reasoning about Asian girls was different and other than scarcity. It was specifically smaller size and cuteness. Guys like many different things. Im sure they say the same exact things about tall curvy model type women. And their reasoning about Asians will of course be different from what I said. The scarcity thing is not a conscious thought to most people. Buts its all really simply. Take a homogeneous land, or an area with very few of a certain type of people. Then drop in a few of those scarce types of people, and watch people get starry eyed about them. They will explain away the novelty by talking about what makes them different from the women they always encounter. Something new and different is attractive to many people. My home boy told me that in Japan the women would say they loved the contrast of his skin to theirs, and how cool black people are in comparison to Japanese men (something they get from the media) But asian women dont treat brothers like this in America because we are a freaking dime a dozen lolz.

Stupid Girl Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Omg silvermercy...you are ridiculous. How do I KNOW? Are you kidding!? LMAO! This idea and preference is like... EVERYWHERE!? LOL You know... the "girl next door" image? That's the most popular look for men in the REAL world (hard to believe I know)... In the fictional world, if we go by the lads' mag logic, men should date photo-shopped PAINTINGS. Fortunately, there are also many men out there who don't date women who look like prostitutes (hard to believe that again I know...) Well gee, I guess I better call my boyfriend up and tell him I'm A) a prostitute, or B) photoshopped, because silvermercy doesn't have the idea body type, therefore nobody is allowed to have it! Lmao As to the OP's question, there are men that will find any body type attractive. What what will make you really attractive to me, is if you're happy and confident with yourself - that is true, objective attractiveness. So I say rock the dress and the heels!

razz90 Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 I'm petite, 5"2, about 120 lbs, and trust me there are plenty of guys who like petite girls. Many guys like the 'cute' looking girls. Also, I tend to go for really tall guys (many 6 foot), and have met plenty of really tall guys who still found me hot, even though there was clearly a huge height difference! So yeah, no matter what your shape or size there will always be guys who find it attractive!
silvermercy Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Height preference is dependent of ones own height. Please read this. http://research.similarminds.com/romantic-height-preferences-in-men-and-women/227 Sure. But in general men like shorter women just like women like taller men. I still don't think most men like taller women than them. If they had to choose based "only" on height, most would go for shorter women than them.
Cypress25 Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 What I meant was that my ex was proportionate the way models are. Despite being small, she was curvy and has T&A. I assume you're not talking about fashion models. On the catwalk, models are supposed to be rail thin. No curves allowed. The reason for this is that designers want people to focus on the clothes, not on the models, so they hire models who resemble clothes hangers. If you're talking about ladies with T&A, you're probably referring to lingerie models, like the Victoria's Secret angels. Just for the record, that body type is not at all proportionate. Most normal women have to wear corsets to achieve that shape, because the generous hips and boobs are so disproportionate to the tiny waist. People can go to the gym and eat right to get model bodies. No plastic surgery needed to get sexy. Just hard work and a good diet. Lets be real. Really? Let's look at this cover model, and see all the digital touch-ups she went through to get her body: http://demo.fb.se/e/girlpower/section1/index.html. Most models that you see in magazines have been enhanced beyond recognition. They didn't go to the gym and eat right, they've just been professionally retouched. It's ignorant to say that anyone can look like that with hard work and a good diet. Even the models don't really look like that. Besides, T&A is largely determined by genetics. You think all slender women can grow big boobs and a round butt if they eat right and hit the gym? I'd like to know what diet can give me those results.
make me believe Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 I've never even heard a guy SAY the word "petite" in real life, let alone "I prefer petite women." lol. Of course there are guys out there who prefer smaller women! Just like there are guys that prefer tall girls, and some that prefer chubby ones. Silver, you seem to be taking this way too personally. I think most guys don't care that much, as long as they are attracted to her. But I do agree with you that most guys will go for a girl who's shorter than he is. That's totally relative though. At 5'7" I'm not considered short by any means, but I'm shorter than my 6'2" husband. It is possible to have a "type" and then find yourself attracted to someone who doesn't fit in with what you thought you liked.

I don't take it personally because I know that what a couple of LS posters say it NOT the absolute truth. I'm sick of reading whole gender generalisations thread after thread though - especially when it gets related to porn somehow. That's what irks me the most and I do the same in return. (I think it's just the LS forum. Why I don't stay away I don't know. lol I think I will do it soon.).
EnigmaticClarity Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 The great majority of men don't care about your height, and if they had to choose between petite and husky, it's fairly obvious they'd choose petite. Some percentage of men prefer women much shorter, and I suspect a very similar percentage prefer women who are closer to their own height. I prefer taller so that I feel a greater sense of equality...I dislike towering over people. I'd much prefer less variation in size amongst humans, it leads to such a feeling of unfairness in relationships and sports.

Im not too much attracted to catwalk type women. I dont see how its not proportionate though. What I meant was that my ex didnt have super huge boobs or didnt have a flat chest for her waist. She had a nice size and an ample bottom. Not to big, not too small. And with good curve. I dont see most models as being not proportioned. Their waist, breasts, and bottom seem to go together from most Ive seen. I see plenty of regular gals out and about with good curve on them. Corsets achieve extreme proportionate curvature that I dont even see in most models. Sure some girls have more or less curve than others, but corsets is taking it into extremes. Really? Let's look at this cover model, and see all the digital touch-ups she went through to get her body: http://demo.fb.se/e/girlpower/section1/index.html. Um, not really...My ex from just after high school did some modeling, and while they touch up photos, if you dont have the body, you dont have the body. She did have the body however. We were in our late teens at the time so we didnt have to worry so much about what we ate back then. I worked out though, she didnt. Its ignorant of you to assume you cant get sexy with a good diet and hard work. RE READ WHAT I ORIGINALLY SAID. I said anyone can get sexy in the gym. I didnt say they would have the exact proportions as most models, but something can be done to get closer to it. Btw, Model bodies are pretty varied in their curvature on women, depending on the publication/company. And varied on men in terms of muscle size and V torso shape based on publication/company. Considering this, I dont see how me saying one can achieve a sexy model type body is way off base. Sure bone structure plays a huge part, but one can mold their bodies in the gym. If your someone who stays fit, you should know this. A gal can hit the gym, slim up, tone up, and lift her breasts and firm her butt up by lifting some weights. Building muscle would some shape to her body. Your butt is a muscle that can be worked, and your breasts are fatty tissue that can have fat added or subtracted from it. There is also muscle behind it that can lift them and enhance their appearance. Guys with a smaller frame can also hit the gym and do work. They can build their arms and shoulders, tone their abs, and slim their waist, thereby acheiving the V shaped torso thats attractive to women. If youd like I can post a slew of before and after pics from people on the fitness forums I post in. No plastic surgery needed. I thought I went over this before in my fitness for dating thread. blueskyday Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 (edited) I'm 5'2 inches with a small but hourglass figure. Plenty of guys of all heights ask me out, especially the ones over 6', which I always find funny. It's wonderful that I am who I am. The right guy will want what I've got. Other than that, I wouldn't waste my time. I once went out with a film director who said that most men are attracted to women with my figure, but with a boob job. I looked right at him and said, "Well, I wouldn't be attracted to that guy anyway." I had a good laugh. Self-confidence is the key. I'm happy the way I am, and lots of guys like me, too. That's all we women should care about. Being the best healthy and happy version of who we are. Then we will attract the guy who we want, and who wants us. Everyone gets to decide what they want, and we get decide who we want in return. I went out on a double date the other week. The other woman was a full figured gal with an apple shaped body. Guess what? Her boyfriend loves that kind of figure. He wouldn't be attracted to me because I'm too small for him. I love that! Edited February 6, 2012 by blueskyday

norajane Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 The right guy will want what I've got. Other than that, I wouldn't waste my time. Exactly. It doesn't matter if all men, or most men, or some men or whatever appreciate your figure. You only need one man, the right man, to do so.
SomewhatExperienced Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 I'd agree most men like petite women. I'd say I do like them in all [most] shapes and sizes but I do have a thing for petite women. You're not freakish by any means. I'd love to date a girl your size (I have in fact). There's this girl I'm attracted to and she's likely 4'8" and at that size I start to question it a little and it's not because of her absolute size (I find it attractive) it's the fact I'm 6'4" and I just think it would be WAY too awkward for the both of us.
veggirl Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 OP, your size sounds fine. If you look "childlike", it's probably more your facial features than your size. Under 5' would look childlike, but not 5'3. I think LOTS of guys like girls your size. Silver, you should relax a bit, geez. I guess I'll make sure to never hop across the pond, as at 5'8/125lbs I suppose I'd be shunned by the fellas you hang around, lol. Then again LS would tell me I'm a skinny anorexic so whatever No one is going to be everyone's ideal, but lets not put things in absolutes. I've been told by lots of guys that I'm the tallest girl they've been with! My BF is about 2in taller than me, he is one who has told me that I'm the tallest girl he's dated, lol. No problem. I used to hate being tall, like OP you don't like being so petite. Now I own it and love it I understand it's not every guys cuppa though.

Btw, Model bodies are pretty varied in their curvature on women, depending on the publication/company. And varied on men in terms of muscle size and V torso shape based on publication/company. Considering this, I dont see how me saying one can achieve a sexy model type body is way off base. Actually, what you said was: People can go to the gym and eat right to get model bodies. Can people get fit by going to the gym and eating right? Of course. Can people get sexy by going to the gym and eating right? Depends on your definition of sexy. Can people get model bodies by going to the gym and eating right? No, probably not, because most model bodies you see in the media aren't even real. Sure bone structure plays a huge part, but one can mold their bodies in the gym. If your someone who stays fit, you should know this. I wasn't even referring to bone structure. I was referring to fat/muscle composition. Among women, there is great variance in body shape, even if the women are equally fit and healthy. This is because some women are pear shaped and some women are apple shaped. Some women are even boy shaped. Pears are genetically predisposed to carry most of their fat in their hips and thighs; these women have smaller boobs and a bigger ass. Apples are genetically predisposed to carry most of their fat in their upper body; these women have bigger boobs and a flat butt. Women who are boy shaped hardly have any curves at all. All of these women can spend hours in the gym trying to mold their bodies. They'll build muscle and become stronger and leaner, but they will still maintain their general body shape (apple, pear, boy, etc) because that is determined by genetics and cannot be changed. I guess that explains why Olympic gymnasts have such shapely curves and sexy T&A...oh wait, no they don't. They're not curvy at all because they're solid muscle. Losing fat and building muscle will make the boobs shrink. If your definition of sexy is a woman with huge tits, then no, women cannot mold those by going to the gym. Not all women have child-bearing hips either. Women with narrow hips cannot go to the gym to mold curvy hips and a bubble butt. Diet and exercise only affects the amount of fat or lean muscle in your body. It cannot change the natural shape of your body or where your body stores fat. An apple cannot go to the gym to transform herself into a pear. And a boy-shaped woman will never have an hourglass figure.
