Am I the only guy who still takes his woman to movies?

I LOVE LOVE LOVE going to the movies. My ex and I watched a lot of movies at home via Netflix or On Demand, but we went to the movies every few weeks as well. I just love the theater experience!! :bunny;

P.S. MI5 in IMAX is awesome!

I love going to the movies, and alot of my first dates have been dinner followed by a movie. Is dinner and a movie a boring and predictable 1st date? I've been wondering lately. Food prices are absolutely outrageous, but I love the smell of the theater and have to have ny coke and buttered popcorn as part of the experience.......BTW, I would highly recommend 'Shame' with Michael Fassbender, about a sex addict whose life spirals out of control. Effing brilliant movie!

I'm a film buff and love going to the movies. If you're on a date, a horror or thriller is not a bad choice. But for a first date not such a good idea, as you don't get to know them.

Back in the day, the drive-in was make-out central and a cheap date. Sadly, they're all gone in our area now for many years. I miss those.

We have a drive-in, but when I went in 2009, I couldn't see properly out of my seat. We went last Summer, in a van, at almost 11pm, and were able to stretch out, but the movie was too dark (it was the last Harry Potter movie).

I get movies and series on DVD, out of the library, and do like to snuggle up on the couch, or stretch out on the floor with my dogs. My parents used to know a couple who would get themselves ready for bed, before going to the drive-in (colliejoanie reminded me of that :) ).

My boy and I go every once in awhile. We've probably gone 3 times in the past 4 or 5 months. But I'd rather snuggle up on the couch and watch one at home for a dollar rather than 20 bucks.

Hubby and I go to the movies. Mostly the local independent theater/art house, which isn't terribly expensive for food (the food is about the price of a mid-priced restaurant, but it's locally grown, organic, real meals and snacks---snacks are priced around $3-5, accordingly). It's nonprofit, too, which I like, and we're members. But sometimes the regular movies. We saw the Muppets in theatres last month. I rarely get food at the regular movie theatres. . . they just don't have anything I want. I tend to sneak in a water, but I always have a bottle of water in my purse.

They don't release good movies anymore and everything is so damn expensive.

Exactly.

My fiance and I go to movie theaters here and there, but even then I'll take her to dinner first simply so we get our money's worth in food...rather than overpriced junkfood at the theaters.

In all actuality, my fiance PREFERS staying home to watch movies. We can relax on the couches in our slobby/lazy clothes, rewind if we miss something, pause to go to the restroom, and eat anything we want that we have in the house...like some homemade appetizers.

I have a feeling the high ticket prices and lack of decent material has turned off many. Especially when they try to scam you into paying $14 just because it's 3D.

Anyone else miss the drive-in? It was 'the' perfect date for all types of reasons. The whole atmosphere was an aphrodisiac.

One time during a horror flick it started to drizzle, a family of deer were standing under the screen, music coming through the speaker on the window, beer, popcorn,...... did I mention snuggled up under a blanket with a naked girl in the backseat?

There's one not too far from where I live, and another about 3 hours away, but they're only open seasonally. Now you tune in to the radio broadcast, rather than using the speakers. Far better of an experience than the overpriced chains. It's too bad that they're nearly obsolete, since I'm not all that hepped on regular theaters.

We only go to the dollar theater (which is really $3 now). Just can't see spending $20 on a movie. Or we go to the early show when it's cheaper.

Mostly we rent, which I have no problem with cuz if we do go out, it's to watch the fights or hang out in the local bar for happy hour.

Mrs. Pyro and I still go to the movies, but not often. Hollywood has released a bunch of crap as of late. Most movies are worth waiting to be available to rent.

Looking forward to the Avengers movie.:bunny:

Food and drink aren't cheap so we'll bring our own stuff.

It took me 5 hours to find such article but I found it. I am so scared now but I will hide it from her because I suck at communicating and if I show her my true self she will leave me.

You're a man don't try to communicate on a female level. Show her your love and she'll stay!

I'm not just talking about on first dates. I mean at all. Are there any dudes who still go to movies with their chicks? I talk to alotta guys and they all seem to sit at home and watch movies with their women on DVD and bluray.

I love going to movie theaters. I went an average of 6 times per month last year. I like to take women whenever I go too. I know it's expensive $10 in the States (theaters in Sydney, Australia ripped me off by charging $22 for a ticket...what the hell?) but I'm addicted to movie theaters.

I like to watch movies from every country. As long as the cinematography is good, I'll watch virtually anything mainstream or indie (but no 3D...I hate that junk).

My only problem is some movies are just craptastic. M. Night Shymalan is the junk. That "I see dead people" movie was overrated garbage. But he made worse. Like that "Signs" movie with Mad Max and Joaquin Phoenix. The two dudes spent half the movie cowering in their basement because they were afraid of some aliens. Then it turns out the aliens can be killed by water. So all you have to die is whip out your balls and piss on the aliens and they die. How dumb is that?

Unbreakable was stupid too. It was about Bruce Willis who had the power to see into people's future and gained superstrength by groping on people. But his worse was "the Happening". The main antagonist of that movie was grass. That's right. Everybody was killing themselves and living in fear of grass. So why didn't they just mow their lawn? They don't need an electric mower. All they need is one of those old-fashioned push mowers and the main villain of the movie is killed instantly.

But one of the most craptastic Hollywood movies I ever watched on the big screen was Cameron Diaz's "The Box". Originally, there were around 200 people in the cinema watching this with me. Halfway past the movie I noticed there were around 50 people. This movie was garbage. I'd carry a bunch of sick vietnamese orphaned children on my head and shoulders through a sweltering rain forrest, as they pissed down my back, before I sit down and watched that abomination ever again.

Still, movie theaters can be fun. The movie-watching atmosphere is intense when the theater is laid out right. I like taking cute chicks because when the movie is funny, suspenseful, romantic, and scary they like to snuggle close to me in a way that's different than watching movies at home.

But it seems like I'm the only dude who still goes to theaters with their woman. Why is that? Too expensive? Too many distractions (i.e. cell phone talkers and crying babies)? Sound too loud or too low? Too many crappy movies?

Can you please stop rambling about movies that "you" think are garbage, and name me 3 films that are brilliant? I'm curious of where your head is or if you're just an annoying troll.

Do you really think that it's appropriate to equate helping sick children, no matter what ethnicity they might be, to your unhappiness with an experience at your local Midwestern Cineplex?

Do the sick children being Vietnamese orphans make them extra disgusting, in your opinion?

That's offensive.

3 movies I gave at least an 8/10: Man from Nowhere; Before the Devil Knows You're Dead; We Need to Talk About Kevin.

You like to make comments like this:

I don't seek out the opinions of sick people in order to justify sick thoughts of my own. If I find myself wallowing in self pity and negativity, what I need to do is look for something positive and affirming to get me out of that bad place.

You say that you like to look for something positive. But so many of your posts seem to be looking for something negative to argue about.

If you have a sincere problem with it then pm me addressing your concerns. Otherwise, stop trying to start an argument all the time and get a new hobby.

I read LoveShack, and though I am not looking for offensive posts like yours, there they are!

And yes, I was sincerely bothered by your comparison of being "burdened" by sick, orphaned Vietnamese children to sitting through a crap movie. Maybe when you grow up you will understand why it's offensive. I really hope so.

I also have a LOT of hobbies. There's still time for me to express myself when I feel like it.

Lots of sexual tension in this thread!

I find myself missing the energy of the crowd when I watch at home. Just eat before you go and you don't have to buy the overpriced food.

I enjoy going to the movies. But they are so gosh darn expensive. I only go on the cheap movie theater night in the middle of the week. I think movies are still good dates. Just not good first dates.

And I liked the movie 'Signs'! I thought that was a good movie.
