Depends on where the date is. Hiking or cocktails.

I can't wait for the baggy look for men to go out of style. Just as men like to see the outline of a woman's body, women like to see the outline of a man's body. A crotch around the knees isn't attractive. Makes me think he's on his way to the bathroom.

...or he no longer has a need for a bathroom...

I take it you're a butt woman?

I have come to learn that all women to some extent are partial to a pair of strong and shapely glutes...

I'm so happy this "look" is way too young for me. My age range men know how to dress decent.

They're a bonus for sure, but I'd choose a guy with other features first, so no partiality here.

Oh, of course, it's hardly a determinative factor. What I meant to say is that they are partial to the nicer ass over the not-so-nice one, not necessarily partial to the guy himself...poor choice of words... :p

I have always found women to like one of these looks, at least the ones I'm interested in anyway. Throw on some Dark jeans, decent shirt, nice shoes, and a mans watch and I'm good to go.

Not bad.

This is an example of what I would wear on a date...

Second one to the right with the grey peacoat.

If it was more formal, I might throw on a button down with a v-neck on top.

For something more formal, I dunno.

I like guys who wear clothes that fit well. I guess the best way I could describe my ideal look for a guy would be preppy metro with a dash of hipster thrown in. I love guys who wear scarves, cool glasses, nice boots.

IMO, (this goes for guys and girls!) you are a grade-A douche if you routinely wear things from Aeropostale, Abercrombie, American Eagle or Hollister beyond the age of 25--and even 25 is pushing it. You shouldn't have obnoxious logos on your t-shirts or purposeful holes in your jeans when you're that old. Unfortunately, BF does have t-shirts from those stores...but thankfully, he hardly ever wears them out in public. For the most part he does dress nicely, with virtually no prompting from me.

I've almost never had complaints about my overall dressing style. I wear clothes that are body-conscious and I rarely follow trends. My style was rather whimsical in high school, but it has become more refined. I never wear sneakers, and I don't wear sweatpants, or even hoodies, out in public.

Dude, I would look horrible in that given my build, not to mention it doesn't match my personality at all.

Barefoot? ;) Kinda plain.

This SCREAMS douche, in any color. Particularly the way it's only tucked at the buckle.

Not bad, but boring.

For some reason I love buttoned up flannel shirts on guys, especially paired with loose but fitted jeans. It's half rugged, half preppy  I'm definitely not into anything too tight (think skinny jeans on a scene kid. Barf) or baggy to the point where pants fall off the butt. Something in between.

Also can't go wrong with a classic black polo that shows off the arms and khakis.

After reading some of the responses in this thread, I am wondering whether a more "sophisticated" (for lack of a better term) style is so far out of the norm with younger folks that it is looked down upon...you see endless waves of guys in their jeans and button down shirts, and that outfit is probably the most common response you get when you ask women what they like a guy to wear...

So is wearing a fitted (and ironed!) shirt with tailored slacks and shined dress shoes even appropriate for a date anymore...?

Something about a woman in a leather jacket and jeans has always drove me crazy.

I just HATE polos... they're very uniform-like, and blah. You can do better.

The last two are nice. :)

Hmmm, good question...in my post, I was envisioning your standard metropolitan nightlife social scene...early 20's to mid-to-late 30's...?

You mean the Friday/Saturday night bar/club scene? What you're describing fits that.

Yes, as far as the age range of people that I'd expect to see out during that time. However, my question regarding the more "formal" style applies to situations (to include dates) at any time of day, not just going out to a bar or club on a weekend night.

You sound like carhill (aka, you've completely lost me). In one breath you say date wear, the next you clarify as metropolitan nightlife, and then you change it to any time of day. Obviously, context is important with everything, including what you wear on a date. Where are you going/doing, what time of day, what day of the week, etc.

If you're asking if people just walk around town on a Saturday afternoon (a non-work day) wearing tailored slacks and shined shoes while running errands and meeting a friend for coffee, the answer is no.

If you're asking if people wear that same outfit to happy hour on a Thursday or Friday early evening, the answer is yes.

Sorry, metro nightlife was used only as a reference to answer your age range question. Then I used the "any time of day" to remove the original question from exclusively metro nightlife... This is all focused on date-wear, which is the topic of the thread.
