Not sure if many of you heard of the new Aqueduct Casino in Brooklyn, NY but for native New Yorkers are definitely familiar with it. Anyway, I went in there earlier this afternoon for a discounted buffet and some light playing on the nickel machines.

Shortly after, I stopped by the food court to meet my cousin and there I saw a group of junior high school kids bunched together at a table, all of them making noise about silliness, just acting their age, pretty much, but really had no business inside this adult-oriented place.

An older white male, maybe 50, watched them intently from across their table, which I couldn't miss. I also didn't miss when he got up and walked over there to make a comment about one of the girl's Blackberry.

But what follows that was something from left field. I overheard this man asking for names of the group. Some of them responded, others didn't, but none of this deterred this guy because he introduced himself as Mr. Pedo!

The group of kids laughed, as did he, finding this funny, but I then met up with my cousin and we started to move on. I stared at this man as I went back toward the direction of the casino and he eyed me back. I then told my cousin about the incident. He just shook his head but didn't comment.

I ran into the 50-something year old lowlife in the restroom about 20-25 minutes later and he approached me at the sink, looked at me, and stated that since homosexuals have equal rights now so can he. He laughed and had the nerve to pat his wet hand on my shoulder as he left. I ignored him the whole time.

I found this whole ordeal disgusting, creepy, and disturbing, and what did it was when I brought this up to my brother on the phone earlier, he says how that man may just have a point, to an extent.

I asked my brother to elaborate and that's when he revealed that NYS has since lowered the age of consent and who's to say they won't try to drop it lower in the near future, and how some part of Congress is already in a process of giving pedofiles alternative punishments other than jail time so they could receive counseling instead of prosecution. This is unbelievable.

I'm dying to hear what people have to say on this upsetting matter.

In Greece pedophiles can collect disability benefits. And they wonder why the country is morally and financially bankrupt. I have no idea why anyone would think counseling could change someone's sexual preferences. They used to think it would work on homosexuals and it didn't. Pedophilia is no different. Sexual preference is hardwired.

Well I'm sure the kids laughed because they are kids and don't know any better. They probably thought he was just joking around. It's a horrible joke but stupid kids find stupid jokes funny.

But that guy is gross. If I were there I would have definitely said something to him. And then maybe have gotten shot... my mouth gets me in trouble a lot.

I would have said something loud to embarrass the guy if I saw him approach a table of kids.

I saw an older guy (50's) approach a group of young girls (13ish) and get super creepy with them. I was standing next to them waiting to cross the street and I didn't hold back telling him to "back the "f" off".

It's true that kids laugh at stupid things, but these guys and girls were 13 to 14 years old so they were old enough to know better and to grasp the term of what this man was implying.

I found it pathetic that the young teens engaged him into conversation, and other adults around the area to pretend like nothing was amiss.

You can't expect kids that young to handle the situation in the same way an adult would or should- they can't be held accountable for their reaction.

The adults that stood by and watched without intervening are a different story. Why didn't you intervene? You seem to think the other adults that witnessed the situation should have.

By your own admission, you faced him in the bathroom and allowed him to pat his hands dry on your shoulder- yet still remained silent.

Its getting pretty bad nowadays b'cause I saw an older guy in his 40s or so trying to chat up a hs girl around 15 or 16 on the train last week. The thing is the girl didn't even mind. Wow, wtf is this world coming to???

I was more or less stunned to tell you the truth. He had this confidence... this smug attitude like what he did was normal and perfectly alright and to see that no one else seemed to care, or pretended not to notice just put me back quite a bit. I didn't really know what to do in the moment since it did happen rather quickly and nothing too alarming came from it.

I do realize that there's an increase of this kind of behavior lately. If you ever go to malls you'll see it daily and sometimes around the city over the weekend, mostly with teen girls between 14 and 17. Sometimes I think not enough teens are getting the profound education of how serious this trend is becoming. And people in NYC never want to get involved in anything off the bat when it concerns strangers, regardless of the situation, unless it's some kind of murder going on...then maybe they'll lift a finger to help.

Even when I was 21 I was pretty naive when it came to creepy people. The kids can't be held responsible for laughing. However, I don't understand why New Yawk is lowering the age of consent. Do New Yawkers seriously equate homosexuality and pedophilia as the same thing? Wow.

What benefit could the state get for lowering the age of consent? So 15 yr olds are allowed to go with creepy adults 3 times their age but they cannot drink alcohol until 21? Way to go New Yawk.

Children/teens are not as contained as they used to be. I grew up living in a bit of a bubble. This current generation is different- they are exposed to things far earlier than previous generations because of the internet and social media. Because of that, they are less naive. That does not mean they are less vulnerable.

I only found out what a pedophile was when I was 12 because I was was preyed on by one.

You focused your post on blaming the 15 year old girl for allowing the creepy adult to engage her in much the same way the OP put blame on the teens for engaging the creep that approached their table.

In Greece, pederasty is a national institution dating back to Socrates' times. That country has been ****ed up since, like, the Bronze Age.

It's not new behaviour, not new in any way shape or form.

My first career was as a youth counsellor, so I've seen some horrible things done to children and teens in my life. I think that's why I have no issue confronting things when I recognize something is off. To some people, it must still seem a shock to witness, and it might leave people a little dumbfounded when they witness it infront of their eyes.

People attracted to children has always existed. It's only been recent in the grand scheme of things that it's been a topic people discuss more openly- and because of that- people are more prone to recognize it.

History is riddled with documentation of what we would consider pedophilia today. Respected/revered Ancient Greeks took on young boys as lovers- it was accepted and encouraged. It's a modern version of what we'd deem a "trophy wife" today.

I don't want to steer this off topic by introducing History. I can say that what is considered perverse is different from society to society. culture to culture, generation to generation.

Words mean things.

For instance the word "pedophile" means a person who is attracted to prepubescent children. There is no crime there, just attraction. Now "child molester" is something else. Then we can move on to a few more questions, like, are you prepubescent and hanging out in a casino? Are you under aged?

Was this guy attracted to you? What is the relevance of this?

Your post seems full of misinformation and vagueness.

This story is hilarious. What did you want these middle schoolers who were in a place they probably shouldn't have been hanging out at in the first place to do... Tell this guy off. I mean he touched you with a wet bathroom hand and from what I can tell you didn't do sht so why do you expect more out of them? Also they were probably laughing at him to eachother, or because they were uncomfortable. Not because they genuinly found the guy charming or enjoyed his lame pedo humore. Finaly I don't consider some one who goes after teenagers a pedo, statutory rapist yes but I don't think they fit the definition of pedophile.

I would have said something loud to embarrass the guy if I saw him approach a table of kids.

I doubt you could embarrass a guy who loudly introduces himself as a pedo to a group of teenagers in a crowded place. But it's great that you'd atleast step in and try to help D-Lish.

You on the other hand Shaun-Dro find it pathetic the young teens engaged him? You let him put a wet hand on you in the bathroom and did nothing. I find you pathetic. I would have flushed the guy down the toilet.

Haha omg D-Lish well put. I really don't know many people who would allow not only a stranger, but this guy to do in the bathroom what Shan-Dro says he did.

Its getting pretty bad nowadays b'cause I saw an older guy in his 40s or so trying to chat up a hs girl around 15 or 16 on the train last week. The thing is the girl didn't even mind. Wow, wtf is this world coming to???

Isn't 16 legal age of screwing in NY? Really how can you tell a clear difference between a 15-16 year old and a 21 year old for example with out chatting them up. The guy in the OP went over to a group of kids and said "Hi I'm a pedo" but nothing wrong with just chatting some one up.

Yes Greece was founded by great pedo's!

I think it's less harmful if a society embraces it. What we do in our current society is for the good of our youth though and they are serious laws to break. The people who break these laws often if not always have serious problems and will do great harm to a young person.

I explained that I was more or less stunned by the whole interaction. This pig threw a curve at me and I didn't really know how to respond right at that moment, but if he had tried to engage further discussion, I would've undoubtedly straightened him out on the spot.

In the future, I will certainly say something if the situation warrants it but I doubt it'll do any good, especially where some of these silly teenagers act like it's not a big deal. The age of consent is 17 in NYS not 16 and it can't be with anyone in a figure of authority like a teacher or supervisor.

Obviously, with the state lowering this age bracket just goes to show you that they don't really care any more. Kids are growing up super fast now! I even see 10 year olds with cell phones! :(

That you don't have any understanding of just what a pedophile IS no doubt tops the list of the absurdities in your post.

Exactly what do the particular casino, the discounted buffet, the fact that the man was "white", or the nickel slot machines have to do with any of this?

You say you went to a food court, saw a bunch of junior high kids (at a food court, no less... {sound of wonders never ceasing} ) and then claimed that they "had no business" there.

That you claim that the state of New York has "lowered the age of consent" "since" you were in the Aqueduct casino on Sunday afternoon gives your whole entire post a feel of having been purely fabricated, in addition to being "disgusting, creepy, and disturbing".

The fact that in your work of fiction, the man and the kids were all in on the humor in the man's approach likely renders the entire fictional encounter wholly insignificant.
