Intrigued by the recent discussion on short guys, I decided to run a short (excuse the pun) experiment on Match.com.

I entered women from 21 to 35 in my area (shallow narrow NYC) and used the qualifiers

4'11" to 5'4"

Big and beautiful

Full figured

Heavyset

And off we go...

Amazing results. The FIRST ten women were all 5'3" or 5'4". No woman required a man taller than 2 inches of her and only one requested a man taller than 5'6" (one requested 5'10"). At least two of them would have taken a man as short as 5'0" .

So the results seem pretty conclusive.

Short man = Overweight woman.

I believe one poster used the word 'sickening' to describe this fact. As a short man, I agree. Overweight women can lose weight, but we can't do anything about our height.

I guess ... oh well, it is what it is.

Of note ... I haven't seen the pairing of overweight women and short men in real life and myself, I have never dated an overweight woman. Not to say I wouldn't, it just hasn't happened.

Maybe I'll start looking into it. ;)

Good people come at discount values in this superficial world...

I've seen short, fat women with short men, usually fat also.

You're a genius... a genius... J/k

I fail to see the corelation... unless you're just trying to say shorter men can get undesirable women easer. The same would be true for taller men getting overweight women easier suposedly.

Truth is you just have to go after who you're attracted to. For the most part I'm not attracted to women who have no shape to their body so I tend to go after slender women as opposed to overweight ones. Attraction is my only requirement.

I'm tall too so I don't worry about the short thing. But I do have short friends and they do just great with women. Shortness is someting a man can overcome if he doesn't get obsessed about it.

The only girl I've ever "dated" was very overweight.

I definitely agree. It's garbage how the market value of a short man is equivalent to an obese woman.

Pretty amazing how being overweight as a woman can stump your options to the point that you have to 'stoop' to dating short guys. If I put the same options in with women the same height with athletic and slim, the required height would go up to around 5'10" or 6'0" for the majority.

I'm pretty athletic, but I wouldn't mind an overweight woman, especially if she's less shallow and good hearted. Everyone is gonna look like sh@t in 25 years anyway.

Fat women should be compared to fat men..Lets not act like fat guys are in demand by women either

In a fair world a guy slightly shorter then average with a handsome face and a six pack should not be on the same scale as a fat women who doesnt take care of herself..but women are more picky then Men with looks

As far as your study ive seen a lot of fat women with height requierments because she soemhow wants to find a tall large man who can make her look small which is not easy to pull off..

What, another thread complaining about being short ALREADY? What's it been since the last one, a week or two? We really need to mix these "men have it REALLY ROUGH" whiney threads up with threads complaining about being ugly or having a small penis for variety's sake.

What about having an ugly penis?

Would that be better :p

Get over the height thing!

Be an individual, not a statistic.

I've gone gaga over a few guys my height (short). I wouldn't necessarily seek a guy that short on a dating site, but I couldn't deny the attraction to a couple guys I've known with whom the chemistry was STRONG!

What people seek on a dating site does not accurately represent the limits of their attraction in real life.

DEFINITELY, I'd read that one. ;) This topic's played out.

I am over it. Just making an observation.

Good for you if you've dated short guys. :)

Don't bastardize the name of science.

You were only looking at overweight women on the shorter side. Seems like you did the research in a way that will reach the conclusion you want.

You must work as a government researcher, huh? ;)

I don't consider 5'4" short for a woman, more like average.

I actually have worked for the government as a researcher/engineer.

I hope you don't know who I am.

5'4 is exactly average (in the US at least). That you used that as your upper limit means you looked at the shorter than average side...

Hahaha. That is ironic!

These short threads make me laugh (probably because I am 6 foot 3 :laugh:)

As I often say, I know too many short dudes who are insanely good at attracting women. Overweight women definitely have it harder than them IMO.

Socially inept men are the worst daters.

I have a question. Does this dating site have a section for people to specify how tall they want their partner to be? I've used free dating sites and I've never seen anyone mention height requirements in their profile. Is that unique to this particular site?

If they do indeed have a section for this, I would like to challenge your notion that whatever height they indicate is a requirement. I'm sure it's more of a preference than a requirement, which means it's flexible. A woman might prefer a man who's 5'10" but she would still date a man who's 5'8". And if she had a profile on a different site, she wouldn't even mention height preferences because it's probably not that important to her.

When someone describes their ideal partner, they don't really expect to find anyone who meets all their criteria. I mean, my boyfriend has a celebrity crush on Elisha Cuthbert, but I look nothing like her and he's attracted to me anyway. (Maybe he just has a thing for short girls, lol.)

It's garbage how the market value of a short man is equivalent to an obese woman.

You're the only one who ever said a short man is equivalent to an obese woman. No one else thinks so. The "full-figured" women in this case study have a preference for short men because they are attracted to short men. Not because these women consider themselves unattractive and are therefore seeking men who are equally unattractive. Everyone wants someone more attractive than themselves, don't you know that?

Besides, most short guys don't have any trouble with women. Nothing wrong with their market value.

Pretty amazing how being overweight as a woman can stump your options to the point that you have to 'stoop' to dating short guys.

Or maybe they just feel like kindred spirits with other people who are discriminated against for their looks, just like they are. They see a short guy and they're like "Ah, he knows what it's like! He'll understand me."

In a fair world a guy slightly shorter then average with a handsome face and a six pack should not be on the same scale as a fat women who doesnt take care of herself

They're not on the same scale, looks-wise. Like I said, almost everyone is attracted to people who are more attractive than themselves. There's nothing wrong with a guy who's slightly shorter than average with a handsome face. He doesn't even need a six pack. Women are not that picky about a guy's body; as long as he's a normal weight, most women wouldn't rule him out.

Socially inept men are the worst daters.

That's the sacred truth. Being tall won't help a guy if he has no social skills.

This isn't true. I have a semi-handsome face and an athletic body, but I dont have super broad shoulders or a sixpack. From what I've learned from girls, if you're not tall you have to be really muscular to make up for it. I know a lot of guys with faces far uglier than mine who have attractive girlfriends because they are 6'3 or very muscular. Men care more about facial looks than women IMO.

crap. I honestly cannot believe how ridiculous you people are. Here's the honest truth from an over-40 married fat chick: It all looks the same in the dark, fat or skinny, and the ONLY thing that shines through is a personality that for some reason your mate finds incredibly attractive.

so yeah, while you're all posturing about saying, "oh, I would *never* date someone heavier than me/fat chicks-dudes are desperate for love /short men are *way* lower on the social spectrum," the truth of the matter is that time and gravity does a number on everyone and all you have left in the end is what you've taken the time to cultivate in the way of your personality. Looks are what catch another person's attention, but it's what's inside that keeps that person beside you.

so please, for your own sakes, stop focusing on the bullshxt issues that induce insecurity and start being proud of the kind of person you are inside.

Unless you're superficial, because, bless your heart, you wouldn't know love if it walked up and bit you on the @$$ ...

As if we dont have threads on this topic already. Why make yourself feel worse by reinforcing negative attitudes?

Haha. I laughed, yet I don't get it. I love it when that happens.

If you read my OP, I said that I would highly consider dating overweight women.

Being short is a handicap. That doesn't mean in real life I go around whining about how short I am. The thread was for kicks.

Apparently, supreme confidence and refusal to waver on your physical standards is more respected than humility and non-shallowness. So, save your moral spiel...

5'8" got a friend stopping buy later to take my pic for my match.com profile.

should I have him get a live chicken to sacrifice so I stand a chance?

We'll have to agree to disagree on that. The first thing I notice about a man is his face. Unless we're on a beach, I have no idea if he's got a six pack, and I couldn't care less. Of course, I actually prefer shorter men, so maybe I'm not the norm, but I do know that most women would not spurn guys who have an average build. Really, women do not expect men to be extremely muscular or extremely tall. Both are turn-offs for me.

Think about it: most people are average and most people date. I've never known a good-looking guy with an average body type and a decent personality to have trouble with women. Trust me, an attractive face beats out broad shoulders and defined abs any day. The shoulders and abs are covered most of the time anyway, lol.

Wring its neck on camera and you're golden ;)

OP, my exW has been a short, overweight woman most of her life and all of her three husbands (and her current BF) were/are tall men. In fact, I believe I was the shortest (at 5'10" now) and heaviest. All the other guys were/are 6'+ and skinny. Don't know how exactly I'd correlate that.
