Lonely Ronin Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Over the last couple of months, I've been doing a little personal study, and apparently I look 5 to 7 years younger than I actually am (I'm 32). I didn't think of it as anything more than an interesting factoid till Friday night. While talking with a woman (she is 28), and discussing age, she said I was baby faced. After she learned my real age she showed a lot more interest in me, and that got me thinking. Women in in their early 20's, seem much more open to me, than women in their late 20's, and I'm wondering if that's because I look mid 20's. ladies, is my appearance hurting me when it comes to attracting women in my age group?
Tybalt Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 If you truly look significantly younger than you are, it could have an effect on the age range of women who are initially interested in you, sure. For women in their late 20's or early 30's who are looking for someone slightly older than they are, someone who is in a similar place in life with similar goals (perhaps a longer term, more serious relationship leading to marriage and a family), they might not gravitate as strongly to someone they think is in their early to mid twenties. It's interesting how this can work and how one can be "fooled" both ways. In fact, I just met someone who who I assumed was in his early 30's by the way he carried himself, when in fact he is 28. Likewise, he thought I was a few years younger than he is when in fact I'm older than he is. Sometimes the cover isn't the truth of the book, but the reality is, people do judge my initial appearances/impressions so you won't always have the chance to find that out. I'd focus on the positive for sure! Looking young becomes more of a blessing as you get older, trust me. Though I'm not sure I'd want it as extreme as say, Ralph Macchio. He might actually be an immortal though.
D-Lish Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I don't think it hurts you at all. However, I am 42, and the last guy I dated was 37... He had such a baby-face, he could have passed for 10 years younger. I look a lot younger for my age, but not as young as he did. My friends would meet him and think I was robbing the cradle assuming he was 28ish... It started making me feel self conscious about my age. I don't ever see it as a problem to look younger than you are over the age of 30! The only problem you might have is dating those early twenty year olds that are attracted to you- because you might only have a physical connection and not much else in common. It's always fine in the beginning, but I've dated much younger men and their maturity level never measures up.

This is pretty much exactly what worries me, because while I can go out and be the life of the party and act 21 at times, normally my maturity level is greater than my age.
carhill Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Retrospectively, it wasn't the 'looking younger' which caused issues, rather having features which matched quite well the Santa avatar currently posted, meaning softer, more rounded features, than hard, angular, more 'masculine' features. To me, that's what a baby face implies. I don't know if 'bad' is a good description, but certainly such features limited the scope of compatible potentials during the younger, more superficial decades, when some people make snap decisions on attractiveness via physical features.
somedude81 Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 SD81, how old are you? Guess. Hmm, 22? Ha ha, I'm 30 ----------- Happened to me two days ago with a girl at work. Since I like younger girls I would say that it's a good thing, but it hasn't exactly helped me...
FitChick Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I think of a babyface as a small nose, chubby cheeks and big eyes. Like Jack Black.
carhill Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Yep, add a bit of 'rosy' to the cheeks in winter, and that's me, except I have blue eyes.

Girls by action, or girls by look? I actually got a younger woman's number Friday night, I called Sunday, got her voice mail. I'll call one more time this week and if I get her voice mail I'll leave another message, and then ball is in her court as I will be done chasing. This will probably sound bad... Girls play games, women don't. I'm not saying all or even a large number of younger women are girls, but based on my personal experiences they have a higher chance of being one. Avoid girls sd81, focus on women.
Author Lonely Ronin Posted January 9, 2012 Author Posted January 9, 2012 Take Tom Cruise from top gun, make his chin protrude a little more, widen his nose a touch, thin his eyebrows, give him some slight forehead lines, and dark blonde hair, and that's the best I can do to describe my face in an hour, without posting photos. http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BMTYwOTA1NjczMF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNjMwNDc0NA@@._V1._SX640_SY963_.jpg

jobaba Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 It's good. The only time this type of thing is bad is when you are in your mid 20s and people mistake you for still being in college or even high school. But after that, everybody wants to look younger. Would you rather be one of those people who is 34 but looks like they're 46. Didn't think so. My age is regularly guessed to be 8-10 years younger than it is.
Frogwife Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I always find questions like this interesting because if the answer is "yes, it's bad", what are you going to do about it?

And you were giving me dating advice earlier. Don't bother anymore. LOL...

Author Lonely Ronin Posted January 9, 2012 Author Posted January 9, 2012 Girls say you look like Tom Cruise? And you were giving me dating advice earlier. Don't bother anymore. LOL... Lol no, I just meant I think I have his general facial structure. My skin has more texture than his (more childhood acme), and my skin is whiter than his. Back in high school, I was once told I looked like a young Bryan Adams. I always find questions like this interesting because if the answer is "yes, it's bad", what are you going to do about it? Guys can do the same things women do, different hair style and clothes. Actually it might be even easier for men because of facial hair. I think I look closer to my age with a few days of scruff (to bad women I'm attracted to don't normally like scruff).
Wolf18 Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I'm going to be 23 in a couple of days, but when I'm clean shaven some people think I'm 18 or 19. It's definitely not a good thing unless you're into 16-17 year old girls . Grow some facial hair. Ever since I don't even get carded when I buy smokes or liquor.
stitch702 Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Damn...I'm 26 and people say I look like I"m 18...which is why my dating pool have been girls who are in their early to mid 20's. It's good I guess, but now I'm beginning to be at that age where I"m looking for a more mature and stable relationship...I'm tired of all these little girls I want me a WOMAN!!!
