But there's this really hot guy named Jeff who is a bit of a jerk and he ignores me but my attraction toward him is through the roof. How do I get with Jeff while rejecting Chipsnsalsa nicely?" Serious though, man, ask for the gift back. Don't give gifts to women you're not related to unless you've banged them.

Your post turned me on But honestly, never go all out until you've been dating a significant amount of time. But in the spirit of giving, a small gift is always appreciated ie chocolate, cute keychain.. Please no jewelry or anything fancy.

One its Christmas - I'm sure you meant it for the holiday. Two you like this girl. Nothing wrong with that, nothing to be ashamed of. I would just say exactly the reason you gave it to her. Otherwise she'll be in the dark about the real reason you gave it to her. Also, maybe she knows you like her and just wants to hear you say the words. Ok, she may reject you. That is a possibility and you want to hide it for now until you get to know her more. Sure, then be cavalier until you are ready. Just say I got gifts for lots of people for example.

If you're not interested in this girl romantically, and just wanted to give her a present because she's poor, like you give presents to all the other poor people during this time of the year, then say, "This is what I do during Christmas, I like to give everyone gifts. Merry Christmas!" Once she hear this, she will know that: 1) You are just a generous person 2) She's not special, and you gave gifts to a bunch of other people as well She will be thankful, she will think you're a nice person, but she will also know you are not romantically interested in her. If you are romantically interested in this girl, then Oxy is kind of right, you gave her a gift because you want something from her... to move forward/kick start a romantic association. Giving presents to women that you're interested in but you have not been romantic with, is called "purchasing their affection"; you are using money to attempt to buy their attention. If she likes you back (romantically), then it doesn't matter, you've already won. You can buy presents or not buy presents, your choice. As long as you don't drop the ball, you're good to go. If she isn't interested in you romantically, not only did you not gain any ground and wasted your time/money, you've actually put the nail in the coffin. She will either immediately friendzone you because you are so sweet, or she will view you as someone in a socially inferior position, because you are sucking up to her with money -- women like men of high social status, just like men like pretty women -- and you've just went the wrong way. So gift giving as a move, in the battlefield of "single and dating", only works in situations where gift giving isn't necessary. So personally, I reserve it for my family, friends, and loved ones. And also for charity purposes, i.e. off the battlefield of "single and dating". If you're interested in this girl, it's a move that I personally wouldn't do. Whatever you want to accomplish could be accomplished better without a gift. But what's done is done. I think she asked because she wants to know if your gift giving comes with romantic intentions. Like everything in dating, her position currently is ambiguous: 1) She likes you, so she wants to hear that you gave her a present because you like her, and this will kick off your dating 2) She doesn't like you, so she wants to make sure your gift giving is 100% platonic in nature So your move now, is to declare your intent, because this gift giving as created confusion and ambiguity. If you like her romantically, let her know, make your move NOW, hopefully it's situation #1, and you get a date. This "approach" could have been accomplished without the gift; it won't change her answer. Anyway good luck. If you like her platonically only, then it's time to clear the confusion. You are just a nice fellow. If she likes you, she will be disappointed and back off. If she doesn't, she will breath a sigh of relief. So pick your path. But make sure you pick a path that's true to what you want. And in the future, don't give gifts if it comes with romantic intent, unless you are already romantically involved.

Christmas gift giving is just a gimmick so business can make money.

No. Just kept it light, fun, and joked a little.. played it down like no big deal... all in all I just said something along the lines it's Christmas and you are special Simple. I mean, to me, the last thing I want to say to a girl who I like and she likes me is "OH WOW, I REALLY LIKE YOU". Most clever girls can read between the lines... at least the ones I have dated... Besides, liking someone is shown better by action, not words. A fabulous body and face are a dime a dozen.. I know more than a few... but show me a woman who has HEART and is not a phoney or flake... and I'll show you a keeper. That is my take.. Cheers!!
