A good conversation the other day with my girlfriends was wondering what you would all say.

So you're dating a guy for a while (handful of months) and 'I love you's' haven't been exchanged yet.

The guy starts signing an occasional e-mail 'Love-xyz', and signs a card 'Love-xyz'.

When you sign things 'love' but haven't openly told the person you love them, does that mean that you do love them and just don't have the courage to say it to them? Does it mean you have loving feelings but don't love them enough to say the words? Does it mean that you could see yourself falling in love with them but it hasn't happened yet?

Us girls wanna know! lol

Thanks!

means i'm fishing for a response, because i'm not going to be the first one to say it without knowing what the response will be.

It doesn't mean anything. You're looking way too much into this, males are simple creatures, we don't send hidden messages like that.

Hmm... I would not write "love" [name] on a card to someone I am dating for this exact reason. I don't want the person to look too much into it until I have said "I love you."

Love,

I wouldn't do so but if I were to put myself into those shoes this person has been hurt before and feels that way, but is too scared to open up first.

When one lets fear drive their emotions it speaks of emotional immaturity to me and shows growth is needed. But again, I don't know this person and I'm speaking from my opinion.

Falling in love and romantic emotions are stupid.

If I feel like a woman can be a rock for me like I am for her, that I genuinely enjoy her company and intelligence and that I like a lot of her inner qualities then I'll say I love her.

I might say it earlier if she says it first just to humor her, but I don't really believe in love like it's an emotion that hits you and you know it when it's there.

Sorry, you asked :p

They say because they know girls love it. It's the same as their ending every one of their texts with an 'x'

I always know I've found a keeper when he says what he thinks or feels without dressing it up with xxxooo, etc

Because sincerely and yours truly are too formal? I think " Love," adds a little more affection to an email or a letter but I don't think men would go out of their into thinking about issues such as these.

Men say ILYs and actually mean it which could also be a reason why it takes it a long time for them to actually say it to a girl. We girls have no problems expressing our feelings since we already do it to our friends and family. Really it's so easy for girlfriends to say to each other " I love you baby", but guys.... wow hahaha, the macho thing to do would just to high-five and offer each other a beer.

Interesting responses, thanks for posting.

I have a male friend who joined in on the convo and basically agreed with thatone, that sometimes men are fishing or testing the waters, so to speak.

And yes, sometimes girls read too much into these things. That's what we do. :)
