phineas Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 See this is the what I am talking about. I am a tech junkie too. I know how to operate smart phones and what their capabilities are. By owning one would that not give an impression that I am a geek and not afraid to use tech devices. Which I am. And carrying an older phone would give an impression that I either: don't know anything about smart phones, or cannot afford to own one. Far as i'm concerned, I shouldn't be seeing a woman's phone often during a date because the only time she will see mine is if i'm saying goodnight to my kids or checking the time. I can't stand women who txt while i'm trying to have a convo with them.
OliveOyl Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 What drives me crazy is going out to venues and seeing people *glued* to their phones, texting, Facebooking, and whatnot. I'm talking about being at a pub with a live band, great music, good food, drinks, atmosphere, and enough people around to people-watch for days. But instead, all around me, people have their phones on their tables, not interacting but staring at their phones. WTF?!

And don't get me started on people who text the person sitting 5 feet away from them! lol
Ross MwcFan Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 How old is your phone? Mine is from 2004. It does what I need it to do, so I can't be bothered with spending a load of money on a new one.
Ilovewater Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 If I saw your phone, there is no way I could date you because it would be obvious we have nothing in common LOL. I know it's sad, but it's true. I am really into being up on technology and I think the phone says something about the person's overall presentation and even their attitude on life in general. It's kind of like a person's car. If your car was old, clunky and beat up, it says something about you. Ummm what? I didn't know phones say that much about a person.... Also, my boyfriend's brother-in-law is a Ph.D. who makes 110k+/year, and he drives a Hyundai that's almost 12 years old. He's an amazing father and husband who makes enough money to take his family of 6 on vacation 4-5 times and put his 3 older children in private school. Your statement says more about you than the people you judge.

Look at how many people have said it doesn't matter. If it makes you feel any better the only reason I get new phones is because I can't seem to keep one for very long....I'm always dropping it or it gets water damage somehow.
monkey00 Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 Let me tell you since dating again, I have felt the very same way. I've yet to switch over to a smartphone. I can afford to but my reasoning I don't need to pay 2x as much just to get data. I'm constantly wired when I'm at home and at work, and free to surf at my own free will. There's no need to be wired when I'm out with friends. Almost everyone I know who own smart phones pay extra to have that luxury they rarely use. Most people I know have a smartphone because it's a trend. And just about every person I know who have a smartphone have serious debt issues. I am in the surplus with my savings. What does that say about them and me? Don't judge a book by its cover. Honestly all I need a phone for is to text and call. Only recently my biggest pet peeve is since people text more than call nowadays, me texting has become a nuisance on my regular phone. That alone and having GPS is nice to have if you're on a date and get lost or need to locate a place...with that I'm still debating if I should bother getting one. But I think if a girl judges you because you don't have a smartphone, then she probably isn't worth your time and sounds pretty materialistic. As long as you have a good head on your shoulders and a well paying job, you should be fine.
chryssy83 Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 I prefer that my SO have a smart phone so I can send him pics and texts and links. etc. Like anyone else. But I would not ditch a guy because he didn't have one. If I liked a guy, I would tease him about not texting/having an old phone. And I might suggest that he upgrade somewhere down the line so I could send him pictures, etc. But if he didn't want to, that still wouldn't be a deal-breaker. And I agree that guys who call are impressive these days. It's like you never hear their voices anymore...
alphamale Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 Thanks, but I'll pass (on both the phone and those who 'require' it. They can pry my venerable 385 Motorola, the keys to my clunker 47yo car and the trigger finger off my WW2 issue Beretta from my cold dead hands. thank god someone around here has their head on straight
zengirl Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 As long as a guy can call and text me and respond to calls and texts within a reasonable timeframe, I don't give two figs what kind of phone he has. I would only have an issue if it created a delay in communication.

johan Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 I won't date anyone whose phone is more than a year old. To me that indicates she has personal maintenance issues. What else isn't she keeping up to date? Her bills? Can she even make it to work on time? The last thing I need is to get involved with someone strapped down with major debt and kids from unknown fathers. No thanks!!
FitChick Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 Maybe the woman has other priorities. I'd rather spend my money on looking good. It's better to have a young face driving an old car than an old face driving a new car. Pays more dividends in the long run.
jerbear Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 wait until they make the IPhoneVibe for women. It'll become a girls "best friend" There is an app for that. There is also an accessory that makes it happen.

piggyoink Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 sort of like its better to cry in a rolls royce than laugh on a bicycle? I read about that half a year ago - You're talking about that story about a woman in China right?
Anxiety Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 I must be a real dirt bag. My phone is so old it doesn't even have a camera. Plus, the screen has been broken for 2 years now so I can't add any numbers. Its a company phone. My boss doesn't care about the screen being broken as long as I answer the phone when he calls, that's all that matters. Buying a phone of my own seems like a waste of money when I already have a phone paid for by my employer. Having an old phone says nothing about my tech savvy, its on display right next to me...my bad ass, home built, water cooled gaming rig.
alphamale Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 I read about that half a year ago - You're talking about that story about a woman in China right? no, the quote is attributed to an old white woman who was an heiress to a billion dollar fortune here in the US
