ShannonMI Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 I'm in my mid 30's and don't have a car and been dating with no problem since I was 20 LOL Right and I'm guessing you live in Philadelphia?? Which is a huge city with public transportation. That's different then living in the suburbs and not having a car.
johan Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Any halfway decent woman will understand that the reason you don't have car is because you work hard to meet other obligations. A bigger concern might be how dependent your family is on you at just the time when you should be establishing your own life and whether that string is ever going to get cut.

But I do think that in the US for sure, not having a car is a strike against a guy, for most women. That might be different for girls around the age of 20, but I'm not sure.
kaylan Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Again Ill say, at 20 it doesnt matter OP. You have other important obligations. Once you hit mid 20s itll matter more only if you are in the burbs. If you live in the city than you can do without a car into your 30s tbh...or even never. Some people raise families in big cities and never need a car. It all depends.
colliejoanie Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 I think it's just something you're distraught over, and therefore think about too much - and think that others are thinking about it as well. It truly is not a turn off if a guy doesn't have a car - if his reasons are anything but repeated DUI's - and I live in the suburbs and am a lot older. I recently dated a 30 year old who's car had been totalled a year ago by the auto garage he'd taken it to for a tune up......it took an entire year to get the settlement, and he went without a car that whole time. I had no qualms taking him to work or anything. (he recently got the settlement money and bought a cheap $4000 car and put the rest into savings, because he realized that just having wheels was good enough, he didn't need luxury - I was very proud of him )
Sugarkane Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Guys with motorcycles are so hot! OP I would be more understanding as I had to actually buy my own car too [shock horror], unlike a lot of spoilt brats out there. I dated someone last year that didn't have a car [ he's younger than me]. But it was for a dumb reason- he lost his license. He was an idiot. Unfortunately when he did get his license back, he decided he didn't want a relationship and wanted to play the field instead.
musemaj11 Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Welcome to the real life buddy. Women judge you by your material possessions while you judge them by their youth and beauty. In the grand scheme of things, love is just another word for prostitution.
kaylan Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 ^Gross generalizations = fail...and the folks who choose partners that way tend to fail at relationships. The women Ive dated havent been that way. And I havent judged them on just whether or not I found them attractive. They had to have other qualities for me to ever consider hanging out with them on dates or possibly being exclusive.
oaks Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 In the grand scheme of things, love is just another word for prostitution. WTF? It's sad that you feel that way.
