Anyone here married but basically living in separate rooms? Eating meals separately? Sleeping separately? Keeping money separate? Not much or no sex?

I've done that for a while, when we separated... obviously, no sex, but I kept paying the mortgage and supporting the family. We are back together, same bed, but still little sex... :D

Yes. We are "separated but living together". I've not filed for D, primarily to keep her on my health insurance (otherwise, she'd have none).

My parents are like that...been together 43 years, don't ask me how.

Me Too...

Separate bedrooms...separate bathrooms...on separate floors of the house...separate bank accounts...although I pay all the bills so it really doesn't matter anyway...come to think about it a "roommate" situation would b an improvement bc then at least I'd only b responsible for 1/2 the bills...hmmmm...

There's a safety element there as well. My father and mother in law live like that. No common shared interest. Both have obvious contempt for one another. He's staying because he's content (not looking for love) and has his outdoors life which he lives for year round. Additionally, he'd hate to pay out what she'd get in a divorce. She stays because he has the house paid off and takes care of any big ticket items and she can come and go and socialize with her friends as she likes. It's a marriage of pure convenience.

I couldn't do it. I need much more from a marriage. I'd sooner be single than pass someone I used to love but now despise each and every day.

Despising someone would make leaving easier... the problem is when you don't despise the other person and you really care about him/her, but you are still unhappy, but not that unhappy to go. And usually kids are an extra factor...

I heard you giotto. Sorry about your situation. I know that's got to suck.

I am getting the idea that most people have high expectations out of marriage.

I definitely did... or, if not marriage, being in a relationship with someone... is that a bad thing?
