I don't contest this. In fact sometimes I wonder if men actuall would prefer dating themslves , albeit just anatomically different.

Sounds like a picnic to me!!! :lmao:

Seriously though... women who want to attract more men should take an interest in more "guy things".

Women don't have to act like the butt of a Jeff Foxworthy joke to attract men... just take some genuine interest in things men like. Old cars. Ham radio. Making things out of wood or metal. Have a barbecue party. Home improvement. Dressing casual instead of formal.

And if you have a collection of useless little ceramic statues, for God's sake get rid of them!!!

Yea. That was really the point of this whole thread. Picking up an interest like football or cars, guitar really make a guy say, "Wow, she's cool." Believe me, a lot of guys will give you attractiveness points based on this.

Re the comments above on time and resourers women spent on 'looking good' That's an eye opener. I buy a gallon bottle of shampoo (doubles as soap) once a year for 3.99 at Walmart and a dozen packs of disposable razors. I do, however, run or go to the gym everyday so that's an hour or so investment but I think of it more as keeping trim and fit as a health investment rather than as for looking good.

Well thats kind of the insidious thing. A lot of the time and attention women put into their looks are subtle; it's only noticed when they're NOT doing them.

For instance, a lot of men take for granted that women are mostly hairless from the neck down. That either means shaving or waxing, so the choice is time consuming or painful. But a guy will certainly notice if you start flashing hairy armpits or too much bush downstairs.

A lot of men love long hair on women. The longer the hair, the more high maintenance it is. $3.99 shampoo that lasts a year ain't gonna cut it. For me, the longer my hair gets, the greasier and flatter it gets, so to make it look good, I have a $15 specially-designed shampoo (that I burn through every 2 months or so), $15 matching conditioner, and then about 3 different products (one to prevent heat damage, one for body and another for extra styling.) And my hair is only shoulder length.

These are just two examples of things that women traditionally go FAR above and beyond men on in terms of looks, and yet are rarely noticed except when she DOESN'T do them.

I agree, and men often underestimate this. My hair costs much more than $3.99 shampoo - because I need hair conditioner, hair accessories etc. Once a year I do permanent hair straightening, which is between $300-$500. That was before I colored my hair. Since I changed my color, it has taken me a lot more time and money to maintain healthy hair.

For men to spend few hours a week working out in the gym... That's only fair. No one should complain.

I wish I could find $15 shampoo that works -- I dye my hair blonde so I have to do my roots every month ($50 or so), I go through a bottle of shampoo and conditioner every two months ($35 each) and at least three bottles of treatments/etc ($15 to $40 each). That's just hair, nevermind foundation ($30), mascara ($25) that I go through about every two months, and all the other makeup that lasts a bit longer..

Not that I'm complaining, I like to look good -- both for myself and to make my boyfriend proud to have me on his arm. But guys just don't seem to understand it's a big investment in time and money.

I'm stepping into dangerous waters because I know NOTHING. However, my sister has gorgeous hair and she claims it's that way because she does nothing to it. Maybe it's our genes.

Probably. Some people are lucky. It could also just be a lack of translation; when she says she "does nothing to it," she could mean she only does the standard shampoo, conditioner, brush it out, some slight hair blowing, and maybe a tad bit of styling. That's still more than the majority of guys do to their hair, but by girl standards it may be "do nothing."

Oh man, it is so true.

Exactly. "do nothing" from a girl usually means she doesn't dye it or straighten/curl it. I guarantee you your sister does not use dish soap. ;)

When i run out of shampoo i just use dish detergent. doesn't seem to make any difference. Perhaps it's even better as I just read the label on the shampoo bottle and it says there is 'oatmeal' in it. Oatmeal?? I don't want food on my hair.

Are you serious brother?

Man who has never been rejected or had any trouble getting a woman?

Sometimes reading stuff like this makes me say, "Why bother?"

I don't spend a lot on my hair since it's short, but I treat my dandruff seriously since I have dark hair, so Head and Shoulders instead of Palmolive. I also use three different kinds of hair gel, mostly just Garnier Fructis though...

How often do you get your hair cut?

Man oh man. I'm guessing they don't have 99c stores where you ladies live? I get just about everything a person could possibly need for grooming from the 99c... shaving cream, shampoo, soap, you name it. It's not like having to buy parts for a Ferrari.

They have them, the products are just way subpar. I do cheap-out on razors but when it comes to hair products, the money really does matter.

And maybe I am a Ferrari :p

I almost choked on my wad of chew when I read the OP. While I'm sure there are some or many guys that would be attracted to that... IT AIN'T ME BABE.

I dated several women of that nature and they all turned out to be losers.

Cripes what a money splurger. I just use the shampoo as soap. Also, i never use shaving cream. I have a thick beard but have always just shaved in the shower as we did in the military.

Without a lot of effort you can cut that $4/month budget down to $2. :D

Hey, if you want cheap... emperor Dionysius had his beard shaved with a red-hot coal by his servant! Apparently the guy was so paranoid about getting croaked that he never let anyone bring a razor or a pair of scissors near his neck. And THAT'S cheap.

BTW... I LOVE butt-length hair on women!!! Especially blonde or really dark blue-black... not so much red though.

These are matters of basic hygiene - do you think it's attractive to not shave or clean your hair? If a girl doesn't have a moustache or facial hair, I'd say a little hair doesn't matter. And no one wants to find a jungle in their partner's pants, male or female. Or maybe I'm wrong with that one? lol

Dude, if a woman with butt-length hair uses 99c shampoos, you'd not want to get within a few feet of her hair, trust me. ;)

Having tried a whole range of cheap shampoos when I was on a very tight budget, I agree that you generally need to fork out at least 10$ or so for a shampoo to be decent. And it has to be separate from conditioner, the 2-in-1 type really does not work well. The difference is huge - and a good shampoo & conditioner is the cheapest way to ensure reasonably decent long hair IMO. The night serum, treatment masks, styling products etc appear useful but not as essential if one really needs to save.

As you may have noticed from the posts by the men and women here about how much they need to spend on their hair care, the level of care required by both is vastly different. Certainly a woman could spend as little on cleaning her hair as a man does, if she has hair as short as a man's - I did that for a while back in school and a few drops of $2 shampoo really did work fine. Shoulder-length hair, even? Not a chance.
