My subscription on let's call it "hatch.com" ends on the 14th. I logged in a few mins ago and I have 110 views, I was like this has to be some sort of a glitch. Now there were not 110 different woman because it count's the woman and how many times they have viewed you.Now most were what I call views because I have viewed/emailed them but there were a fair share of new views. Also I had cleared my views yesterday and today it shows a total of 33 viewed me, BUT 7 of them have active within (a bombination of) 3 days, 5 days, a week and 2 weeks? Would a date site do this to you so you renew? If they do it should be illegal IMO. Has this happened to anyone on here?

There was a class action suit against Yahoo.com that did something similar I think "hatch" as well.....what happened THERE was, let's say you had 0 response rate the entire year you were with them.

Then a few days before your membership expires...they actually would have a woman send you a FAKE email after your sub expired, they tried to sucker some guy into renewing, so he'd be able to READ that woman's email....he read a lame, stock email, and when he would click on her ad, it would say, "The user you are trying to view, is not listed"

A dating site or any other internet site can do whatever their programmers decide it should do. Is it illegal? Unknown. Were you damaged? Quantify those damages and sue them. If enough people sue them, maybe they'll hire different programmers or instruct them differently.

I recall, when I was on Yahoo personals, right before my subscription expired, I would get all these nice inquiries from young, pretty ladies; ladies I'd be proud to call my daughter :D

Coincidence?

TBH, even though I met nearly all my LTR's and my exW on dating sites, I doubt I'll ever use them again. The world of that realm has changed, in many ways. Not my style. Good luck :)

It's also possible that it could target people close to membership expiration to be viewed by others.

In any case, your question was answered - no glitch. The only thing any business cares about is money. And if you got no hits when you were in normal membership - well, either the site is crap or you did something wrong.

Yeah.. I think they all do it...

I myself have never been victim to it but upon watching some memberships expire during my dating site history I noticed the odd email the last hour of my membership or the number of views way up but honestly it never changed my decision to end the membership at that time though..

I will say that I always did OLD in 90 day memberships and would re-up or stop doing it for a month or so until the last time ..

I re-uped my hatch.com membership for 6 months and then met my now wife on the 3rd day of the new membership and she also had the similar experience..

However, I consider it money well spent...:)

OKCupid is the only dating site that is worth your time. The paid ones do all sorts of stuff like this. I used to use "hatch" and never had any great dates off of it. OKCupid is free so they have no incentive to do stuff like this. Anyways, yes paid sites do **** like that.

i've seen that, when i was doing online dating, when i ditched it after a month or two due to not liking the format i suddenly got a message/wink/whatever from a picture that led to 'profile unavailable'.

i thought the same thing, bs to try to get another month out of me.

It's a bunch of BS.

I remember when I ended Match.com and Yahoo.com before that, they both suddenly hit me with emails telling of how many views/emails I was getting.

I say if the sites are forced by law to remove photos/content of any expired accounts AND they all decide to stop offering "free profiles" or they clearly mark that this is a "free profile" you're looking at...

...I'm sure they would all fail. The pay sites seemingly have become a scam to get MEN to pay for their services.

Why not just delete the photos and remove any cc info and personal info ?.. it was what I did.... seems easier that rewriting state laws..

Hell yeah they would stoop to that level. Have you ever noticed BEFORE you sign up on one of those sites they give you a sneak peek of the singles in your area and they are all really attractive? Then you sign up and you get the real people. While some of them may be good looking, not many are. At least in my experience it's been that way. That's how they hook you. You think you're going to get some decent matches, you pay the money and you end up with the creeps and ghouls. SCAM!!!!!! I hate OLD. It's a joke.

Hey, happy 2000 :)

IMO, this is an area where business ethics have eroded. Both pay and free dating sites weren't like this when I used them a lot in the past, generally in the mid-late 90's. I was shocked how things had changed so much and not for the better.

Here's the problem...sites like Match and Yahoo throw it in their clauses that they can use any photos or information you upload for their own purposes.

So say you're a hot girl. You sign up and give it a try for a few months. You uploaded some nice photos and ended up with plenty of unwanted attention.

You chuck it and delete your account, moving on like many do.

The dating site will then show your photos or parts of your former profile as if you still existed there. They'll make it into a "free profile" and thus suddenly bring it up to you if you decide to go back.

Meanwhile, loads of guys are emailing this fake profile now, thinking hot girl is still there looking for a man...not knowing their emails will never go anywhere.

It's all lies and scams to make men believe the site is loaded with pretty girls who want boyfriends...yet when you can spot the differences between a fake or free profile versus a PAID profile (where the person actually sees your email), then you'll find how much of a sausagefest these sites are.

Seems easier to just delete the pictures...

Just saying

If you don't want your picture used after you leave then delete the pictures...

and I find it hard to believe that they can reactivate your hidden account for their own reasons...

While they may use your pictures for google and advertising on their affiliate pages they certainly have no legal right to UNHIDE a hidden profile and start accepting emails to that profile..

and if you just abandon your profile and left it visible and they use that in their advertising then it's your own fault...

I have seen the other emails and view counts that the OP has talked about.. they can be totally sketchy about that stuff.. but I also never fell for it..

If I happen to like my username and want to save it if I decide to resubscribe, I will delete the photos and change basic details, like location, age and even sex. I will make all information minimal. If I am a 90 year old male in Albania, I am unlikely to get winks or emails or views. Yet, on Match that still happens so I know immediately it's all fake. If someone's profile hasn't been modified in years that is another clue to a fake. I also make a point of noting the subscription expiration date and hide or delete my profile two days before because sometimes they seem to use another time zone to automatically charge your card.

I'm sure some dating sites do this and they send fake messages from admirers to get you interested and going back. We do have trades description laws in the UK and surely this would count as misrepresentation if not fraud? I am curious as to why the law isn't being enforced. Anyone know?

That's because there are hardly any laws regulating OLDS.

BTW I worked with a guy who told me how he used to run some fake dating sites. He never got caught because he never got too greedy... but he was raking in a few thousand $$ each month from it.
