Citizen Erased Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 I like Ashton, mainly because I love That 70's Show. I certainly won't be switching off of 2.5 men just because I can no longer watch Charlie Sheen play a character that sadly enough was the better, more well adjusted version of himself. Ashton is kinda man-pretty, which is why I suspect he is currently sporting that facial/long hair thing.
Nexus One Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 (edited) Might I add that I think Charley Sheen also turned out to be a good businessman, as since he was fired from the show he started doing business on his own and he pulled in 600k or more on some days. Granted, he used to make 1 to 2 million a week doing 2.5 men, but once he was fired he started making 0.5 to 1 million A DAY doing business. To which I thought "Winning!" was a fairly appropriate term for what he was accomplishing business-wise. I thought it was pretty interesting seeing him on the phone with his manager(s) on Youtube. The guy gets sh*t done, just by ordering people around on the phone while smoking a cigarette. My CEO tends to do the same, although he smokes a cigar. I have a fan on my desk and whenever he smokes he opens the door of his office, causing the smoke to float to where I'm working. I just point my fan to his office and blow the smoke right back into it. F*cking cancer sticks. Edited December 12, 2011 by Nexus One
Eve Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 If AK was trying to do Shakespeare and failing terribly, I would understand. I don't think he has strayed at all from his usual castings of playing the type of characters he plays - and all in all he does it well. Power to him. In the UK/Europe the leaning is generally towards TV characters being as real to life as possible, this is what puts bums on seats. As an outsider I thought the 'Ashton thing' was more what is looked for by US viewers, so I have been surprised by comments made here for more realistic characters. H'mmm.. yes, in many respects I thought of Ashton as being a true representation of what Americans want to be like as really he is just a quirky version of other characters I have seen on US shows - what with the overly perfect teeth and all that which seems to be the normal appeal.. The Briitish version of AK would need to be much different to create an appeal. So I put it down to the physical side of what you have to look like to get on in America as being very different to other parts of the world. In total I use US TV as fantasy based viewing only as the weather is very different to where I live and the homes seem very large generally. It's just altogether very different. So, if there really is an argument here it should be that the appeal/reality being characterised is not accurate. Whereas from readership here and generally in real life, I don't see any discrepancies. This could possibly be due to my not knowing what golden age people are comparing AK and his roles to. If it is to Charlie Sheen, then I am even more confused. I can't say that TV has got very much worse where I live. There is some crap on but there is a pretty consistant standard in terms of solid dramas and documentaries. Each channel does have very distinct viewing patterns and standards. Anyhow it has been interesting reading but I don't get what all the dismay is about. Take care, Eve x
Wolf18 Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Cameron Diaz actually does not do much for me. I don't think either Jessica Alba or Cameron Diaz are attractive and the notion that people would want to see them in movies would be a laughable concept if i lived anywhere that wasn't America. Very few hollywood women actually grab my attention, but both Alba and Diaz are actively annoying to me when I have the misfortune of seeing them get interviewed on late night TV etc. If it was up to me Hollywood would be a glass parking lot. Perhaps I would spare alison lohman
