singlelife Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 I watch Jim Carey movies and also other comedians and I know women love them. I also know guys who are flat out ugly but have a wonderful personality and keep the ladies smiling and it seems they swoon after them. So it makes me think sense of humor and personality are huge with ladies over looks. But I am not sure so I wanted to run it by ls to see.
KathyM Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Personality and sense of humor is important, but if a woman is not attracted to your looks, chances are you're still not going to get a lot of interest. Women may want to befriend a guy like that and be around him because of his personality, but as far as romantic interest, most women would take the good looks over the outstanding personality. Of course, people like Jim Carrey and other famous guys have fame, money and status on their side as well. But I think if you would ask any woman who they'd rather date, if given the chance, they'd choose the Brad Pitt or the Ashton Kutcher, over the Jim Careys or the Jerry Seinfelds.
Jane2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Agree w/ Kathy. Although I'm all about the combination of looks and personality. But it's true that I'd never be won over by a guy just because he's got a good personality, and I would probably date a good-looking guy with an okay personality over an "ugly" guy with a great personality. Fortunately, neither males nor females really have to sacrifice because there are enough people out there with the combination of looks and personality.

curlygirl40 Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 A confident, funny, outgoing guy will be more attractive to me because of his personality. I went out to see a band with a few girlfriends a few weeks ago. There was a guy there who usually would have not caught my eye. Through the evening he was dancing with his wife in a funny way and chatting us up and making us laugh. My friend and I were discussing just recently how he was MORE attractive to us once we saw his funny, outgoing, confident personality. A guy could be oh so hot but if he can't make me laugh then we won't 'click'. I seem to need that smart, witty, quick on your feet kind of humor to connect with someone. I'm not saying that looks don't matter to me at all, I'm just saying that if a guy has an awesome personality it will make him MORE attractive to me and if he has a dud kind of personality, even if he's attractive, he will be LESS attractive to me.

That's interesting...I see guys on the wall having no fun but seem to have the looks, and I see dudes drunk and dancing and having a blast and they always get more girls even if they're not as naturally attractive. I guess it makes sense.
Disenchantedly Yours Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Personality matters a great deal. I have been attracted to stereotypically attractive men and stereotypically socially defined unattractive men because a combination of their looks and personality.

Wolf18 Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 I don't get it, what's wrong with Jim Carey? He's at worst, an average looking guy. He is semi-good looking I would say (but I'm a guy), and while I stopped finding him hilarious when I quit smoking pot at 17, he's actually a pretty talented actor, who strikes me as having depth and intelligence . Although sometimes, I feel sorry for any of the women or children that have to live with him if he's always a rubber faced jackoff Most women would rather be with Ashton Kutcher than Jim Carey, but that's unfortunate and a big mistake. When you dedicate all of your time and energy to one thing (in Kutcher's case, its his looks and MTV marketability), everything else about you becomes atrophied. People like him are really just...sluts who stand for nothing and fall for anything. Is rubbing genitalia with a 10 out of 10 looking person at the expense of everything else really worth it ? As a man , even I wouldn't want that for myself.

It's funny how you and Wolfe find Jim Carey attractive. I find both Jim Carey and Ashton Kutcher average...not ugly, but not that attractive either. I'm not too familiar with Jim Carey's off-screen personality, but Ashton Kutcher is an idiot, which makes him even more unattractive. Personality matters a lot to me. I've never really been sucked in by a guy because of his looks. In fact, I was friends with all the men I've dated before we got together and became attractive to them because of their personalities. Of course I still care about looks. I expect a man to be clean-shaven, well/decently-dressed, and neat. Beyond that, I've never place much emphasis on looks.

Personality is important, but I'm going to be more focused on your physical looks first. If looks is all you have with no personality, it's not going to last. Eye candy is nice, but if a dude can't hold a decent convo, then see ya!!!!
ShannonMI Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 what about hot dudes with bad personalities. They are fun for a few nights, but like I said, if you feel like you are talking to a 5 year old or a boring drip, it's no good.

I'd imagine he has a serious side. He does play serious character in movies, so it's something he CAN do. Ashton is a tool box. He's attractive (although right now he's got the Jesus looking going on and I'm not feeling it), but he's a cheater. And Jim is way funnier. He's also cute. Not hot, but cute. I'd date Jim over Ashton any day.

Being good looking does not mean your attractive or sexy, girls do not look at guys like we do,i have seen muscular, decent looking guy at least me and my friend thought that...then our female friend said that he was flat out Disgusting. It seems like in girls mind your either hot or disgusting....
DearAbby Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Honestly, for me, personality trumps all. If the guy has above average looks and a bad personality, I get turned off. If another guy isn't as good looking (still meets my standards) but has an amazing personality, I would rather go out with the one with less looks and more personality any day.
