jobaba Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 So, anyway, I read the thread about "What women find irresistible." Most of it was garbage. Yea, all men know women want someone who is motivated, fit, funny, confident, tall. Right... But the scent... So, I have a few bottles of cologne that women have bought me that I have never worn because I think it's tacky. But if I can do something that costs me nothing that will help me with women, you better believe I'll f@cking do it. I also have a date tonight. So, women, what about cologne? Women are strongly attracted to scent right? (predicting the trainwreck of irony that will follow).
KathyM Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 I love cologne on a man, if it's a good one. And if it's not overdone. Yummy.
CarrieT Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 I hate it. Hate it, hate it, hate it. I want to smell the MAN - not what comes out of a bottle. I am also über-sensitive to aromas and find many women's perfumes to be offensive - the worst of which is Calvin Klein's Obsession (for both men and women). THAT cologne smells like Deet bug repellent.

KathyM Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 I swear... Men just can't win... lol. Everybody has their preferences. If you do decide to wear cologne, choose wisely, apply sparingly. I love what my husband sometimes wears, which is Axe cologne and bath products. Supposedly it has something in it that actually is supposed to attract women. It works for me. When he has that on, I feel this overwhelming urge to hug and kiss him. Must be some truth to their claims.
EnigmaticClarity Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 (edited) I mostly use Armani Code, but I have one or two others whose names I forget. I usually spray my chest extremely lightly, then rub my arms around on my chest to get it on my arms as well. Then I do the back of the neck lightly. I rub my wrists all over the back of the neck, then rub my wrists on the front of my neck. I try to do this early in the morning with the idea it will fade by the time anyone is close enough to smell it. If I'm going to see someone very shortly after putting it on who is likely to get close enough to smell it, I do less--usually just the chest and spread to my neck via my wrists from there. My girlfriend used to exclaim how much she loved how I smell. Then one morning she stood in the bathroom while I was doing all of that and was grossed out by the direct smell of it when it comes out of the bottle. Since then she claims I shouldn't use it at all...but since I know she liked it before she smelled it at its full out-of-bottle strength, I'm not sure I believe her. So if she's around, I'll do it in a closet when she's not looking. No complaints since the last time she saw me putting it on. I'd imagine she'll eventually stop me from using it, but eh, guess we'll see how it goes. My experience is that as long as you keep it very subtle, women for the most part like it. I've gotten multiple compliments on dates about my scent. Edited December 9, 2011 by EnigmaticClarity
EnigmaticClarity Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 I love what my husband sometimes wears, which is Axe cologne and bath products. I use their shampoo because I like the scent. Unfortunately, they quadrupled the price of it a few months ago, and when they did it, I went on Amazon and bought six huge bottles at the old price. I doubt I buy it again once I run out if they're still pricing themselves at four times the rate of most shampoos.
LittleTiger Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Being attracted to the scent of a man has absolutely nothing to do with what cologne he is wearing. Like Carrie, I hate the stuff. The natural smell of a man's skin, if I'm attracted to him, is the absolute best smell on this earth. Forget the cologne - it hides your natural smell - provided you're clean and fresh, the right woman will be attracted to your pheremones and it helps if she can actually smell them! PS: What is garbage about a woman wanting a guy who it motivated, fit, funny and confident (and taller than she is)? I'm guessing you are none of these things - why else would you say it's garbage?

There's a reason why it got so expensive--because it really does work to attract women. I know it has an effect on me.
shocked_confused Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 I love a good cologne. Burberry smells delishhh and makes me want to jump the guy

I'm guessing you are none of these things - why else would you say it's garbage? It's garbage not because it's not true, but because men already know all of this stuff. And... I have all that stuff. I have a successful career as a consultant (though in the midst of career change), went to a Top 15 University, have a Masters degree from a school Top 3 in its field, am a semi-professional level musician, work out daily, have been told I am funny be numerous men and women. Oh, and my parents are rich, so I'm going to have a ****load of $ when they croak, NONE of which I'm relying on in my future. I'm not even going to ask what you have because I DONT CARE! Just so long as you are cool and laid back, a good, non-shallow person and we connect. Good answer?
Jane2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Applied subtly, I absolutely love cologne on a man. Guy I'm dating wears this cologne that he told me is called Bod, and I love it. Sexy...

Try this: Rub Vaseline between your wrists and then spray your cologne on your wrists and rub it in. Vaseline acts as a barrier to keep the moisture of your skin on it. Helps prolong the smells of cologne. Best places to apply cologne is on your wrists, neck and behind the ears. Your body releases pheromones in those places the most. Which is exactly what you want! No two people will smell the same with the same cologne, which is what a lot of people forget. Some girls may go crazy over one guy that wears a specific cologne, but spray that on a different guy and the effect is nil. I think I have about over 23 different brands of cologne. Can't smell the same everyday! Now I'm beginning to sound metro sexual. I need to get my masculinity back haha
DearAbby Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 I think every man should wear cologne. I love a beautifully smelling man. And that man scent the ladies speak of is usually the mans deodorant.
Elysian Powder Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 I swear... Men just can't win... just don't care about women's wants and do and go after of what you want .
thehead Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 You're crabby as hell, man. I don't know why women would respond to this thread given that.
in_absentia Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Cologne is SUCH a turn on if it's nice. Mmmmmmmm!

You passed metrosexuality and entered a new place when you went past five or six colognes... I get so used to the smell of cologne once it's on me that I'm never sure how it's smelling to other people. If you spray it as lightly as you possibly can with those spritzing nozzles cologne bottles have, how long will that typically last? I've always figured that I WANT it to wear down in smell, because even a tiny bit smells too strong to me when it first comes out of the bottle.
El Brujo Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 I hate it. Hate it, hate it, hate it. I want to smell the MAN - not what comes out of a bottle. You enjoy the smell of B.O.? Some department store clerk had me smell a sample of Aramis cologne once---I thought the stuff smelled like marijuana!!!!!
Tybalt Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 I'm not a huge fan of cologne, in fact many perfumes and colognes give me a headache. Too much would definitely drive me away. My olfactory sense is extremely sensitive though, so I find that a very very subtle and faint scent, perhaps from bath products or an extremely faint application of a cologne, etches an association of scent with the person very strongly in my mind. I've had experiences where catching the slight whiff of a deodorant or cologne that a romantic partner wears floods my brain with thoughts of him. If it is a former love's scent, it takes me back fully and immediately to the time we were together. Since I like to keep my memories like small, treasured baubles, and consider all my experiences a part of what makes me who I am, I don't mind the occasional nostalgic moment.
Ilovewater Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 If you like how the cologne smells on you, then wear it. Everyone's preference differs, so the only thing that matters is what you want to do. I don't like colognes or perfumes because they give me a headache. I prefer a man's natural scent, as long as he smells nice.
Disenchantedly Yours Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 I like cologne on a man! AND I like his natural scent too. Sometimes it's nice when men mix it up. I love Ralph Lauren's Blue cologne. Yum.
xpaperxcutx Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 http://attractpheromones.com/attract-pheromones/smell-attraction-and-pheromones/ I love cologne, when it's applied in small amounts. The only thing that is a turn off is when men tend to douse themselves in a scent, without realizing a little of something can go a long way. That said, I'm really attracted Chanel's Platinum for men. It's musky and intoxicating.
Disenchantedly Yours Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 I don't think there is such a thing as a bad natural scent unless he has a heavy case of B.O. Pharmones do play a big part into who is attracted to who but just because a woman is turned off by your smell doesn't mean you have a bad scent.
