Honesty and trusting - are they 2 sides of the same coin?

Just wondering how many people associate the ability to trust directly with one's ability to be honest in their dealings with others?

 

For example, would you assume that someone who is careful to protect themselves (ie rarely loans money to friends, likes to see things in writing, etc) is also someone who is very unlikely to be honest with others?

Assuming all other things equal, I am honest and trusting towards those whom I really can place my 100% trust on.

 

But real life relationships can be complicated to several degrees, so i can be either:

 

1) dishonest but trusting

2) honest but distrusting

3) both dishonest and distrusting
