Do you find it a big turnoff when a girl likes (or even collects) blades and sharp items?

A friend of mine said he'd never date me when he saw me watching with interest military knives in a shop windows. He said most guys would find it very un-feminine.

What do you think?

You don't want to go out with "most guys", do you?

Guess I’d have to know what you think is so great about them. If you said you want to cut people up or you’re having an escalating feud with your neighbors, then I’d probably be backing off. If you just appreciate the aesthetics of knives, then I’d probably be OK with it. But I would also be hoping it’s just a phase you could satisfy with a couple good knives. I think it’s cool if people have different interests.

Women seem to be taking on more of the masculine roles in society anyway. You might as well get into knives and tools and whatever else. He can take up knitting.

lol, that all depends...because there would seem to be opposite female types who would be interested in such a thing.

If you're a goth/rock/grunge type girl who likes metallic stuff like knives and guns I find you can still be feminine...so I likes. But if you are a "rednecky" type I often find those women too manly and thus un-feminine.

hehehehe...although, i'm not sure if it's an issue of feminity as more of a scared witless to sleep after an arguement type thing :p

LOL!

The dreaded 'Bobbitized' syndrome...

As a side note, there's a commercial playing on the local stations where I live for a new sword and knife store that just opened up downtown. I has to be the funiest god-darn thing I've ever seen. My wife and I cracked up the other night when we saw it for the first time.

Not looking to dis anyone at all, but the commercial starts out with a bunch of out-of-shape 20/30 year old men wandering into this new store to SUDDENLY be transformed into out-of-shape 20/30 year old men dressed up in dungeons and dragons type outfits. Than they have some young girls bowing down before them, they knight them with their new found swords and smoke pours out from everywhere. Some wizard type guy comes on screen and promotes the new sword special deal and than they all turn back into normal guys in the store happily buying their new swords.

Damn...I hope I see that commercial again soon, it rocks.

Anyway...to get back on track here...

Everyone is going to have thier own view on this, and some guys probably get REALLY turned on by woman that have an interest in blades. Not much more to say about it than that really. Like most other things, some folks will dig it, some won't, some won't care.

Thank you all for your replies! :) :)

Bluechocolate...that's indeed a very good point :D

Johan,

Now that I think about it, this is exactly what I would wonder about a guy who likes knives..... why he likes them.

If a guy just liked the aesthetics of them, found blades...well, sexy (like I do) but would *never* carry one let alone use one on someone (like I wouldn't either) it would be cool, but if he liked to carry sharp items in his car(or worse on him) I'd be scared.

I am afraid of guys who are aggressive like to pick fights .... so i would not date them even if the didn't like weapons :)

But I would also be hoping it’s just a phase you could satisfy with a couple good knives.

Funny, it's exactly what happened to me.

I own three (a ka-bar, a pretty throwing knife that looks almost like a toy, and a hunting one which looks more like a piece of art than something you'd take hunting) and I don't feel the need/desire to buy any more.

I still love looking at them in shopwindows though.

Oh, I knew a men who learnt to knit......it was very cool!

Luckily only place at home I actually wield (and use) knives is the kitchen.

On vegetables :)

Wideawake, that commercial sounds very funny. :) I wish they broadcasted it here too.

If you have a knife strapped to your thigh when having sex, I wouldnt blame him for being wary.

I wouldn't care. As long as I get to play with them.
