Zabs Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 I see on this site that there isn't a section for mental health but as a few of our members have commented on such I thought I would post my experience. One reason is that mental health is a very complex issue and that there are the party that believes things such as Bi-Polar, and personality disorders can be controlled...the other camp believes that it is a disease. As a person with Bi -Polar I can unequivocally state that my illness relates to excessive and substantial mood swings out of proportion, which can occur at any time, deep depression to hysterical mania whic is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. This is not something I CAN control. HOWEVER, with mthe right medication and psychological interventions, management can be quite successful. As for personality disorders, these stem from a person's experience which shapes their patterns of learning and behaviour which also lend to determine their coping strategies. Personality disorders can be treated, but it is a long road and when other illnesses are at play ie:psychiatric illnesses requiring medical intervention, it becomes all the more difficult for those with the PD and those supporting. To this end, I would suggest referring to a site that has appropriate resources at their disposal. Ie: for people with Borderline personality Disorder, there is a site online which tackles most subjects and similar to this one, are always looking for ways in which to improve their site. For people that are dealing with other mental health issues, I would imagine that if you type in support group for (followed by the type of illness you are researching), you should be quite successful in your search. Much love, Zabs xx:cool:
