Maybe it's more NOT confessing (and why) than it is about confessing.

"Confessing" has nothing to do with the whole picture.

If you and I were sitting at a poker table, and the betting was done, and you revealed your hand, would it be appropriate for me to say "I confess, I have three queens" ???

If I'd just flipped a coin, caught it in my hand, and then flipped it over onto the back of my other hand, and then slowly moved the top hand away, would it be appropriate for me to say "I confess, it's tails" ??

There is no "confession" involved. You didn't do anything bad, and neither did I when flipping the coin or playing my poker hand.

Now had my coin had two sets of 'tails', and had you called 'heads', then it would make sense that I was "confessing" that you could not possibly have won what you thought was a fair and random coin flip.

If you wish to tell her how you feel, then fine, go ahead...

And the more direct you can be, and usually the sooner you can be so, the better your chances. To run around like a scaredy-cat, obvious to everyone in your circles, while just not SAYING anything, is bound to get 'creepy', or "off-putting" (as somebody said).
