Do guys like when a woman calls just to chit-chat?

Let’s say the woman you’re casually dating calls just to hi and see what’s going on, not to make plans or anything. Do you enjoy this or do you wonder how long before you can get off the phone? My ex hated it...

If you call me, it better be about something. I don't "just talk." And once that item is discussed, expect me to say something like, "okay, cool, bye."

Oddly enough, this is probably much the only flaw my managers find in my work. My job requires me to be connected to the phone throughout the day, I get calls from the office about crap all the time. When people call me, I want them to tell me what they want me to know, or what they want from me. The conversation will be purely business. None of that "hi, how are you?" or "How was the weekend?" crap.

Tell me what you want me to know and be done with it :).

I'm a girl, but I want to reply anyways. :)

During the day, when I get a call, I also expect for it to be quick and to the point. I have places to go, things to do, and so on. If the conversation seems to serve no purpose, then I will politely excuse myself and get back to whatever I am doing.

If it is at night, however, and I don't have anything pressing going on, I think it is rather romantic to just lie in bed, curled up in my sheets, and talk to a guy over the phone.

So, Fondue, basically you don’t like it.

I’m not much of a phone talker myself, but I figured since we haven’t spoken in several days because of the holiday, I would call to say hi.

It’s not going to be a lazy, lie in bed kind of conversation; it would be more of a let’s catch up on each other’s lives conversation. I’m just convinced that most guys don’t really like it and/or find it annoying when a girl calls for no specific reason.

I liked it...generally says she likes me and enjoys time with me.

Only hated it when I was working or busy....but I'll be honest and tell her it's not a good time to talk...

...then call her later. ;)

I despise talking on the phone. For whatever reason, I can have good conversations in person, but on the phone it always feels awkward.

Maybe it feels awkward to you because you’re young, and not used to actually talking on the phone? I assume you grew up with texting, so that probably feels more natural to you.

Would it make you feel good, however, if a woman you liked called you to say hey, or would it just be annoying?

Only if we are newly dating....once we get in the "motions" I prefer in person talking and such, which I prefer over phone anyway, BUT with someone new, it shows she's interested and I just enjoy learning more about her. Once the relationship is established, texting is fine for how was your day small talk if we're not gonna see each other that day

Here's Peter believing he's a woman and calling up Quagmire:

That's how I feel about it. I can' stand having a girl that insists on calling me every single day to talk about mundane aspects of her day and expecting me to do the same. What an incredible waste of time. If she wants to talk about something interesting or something that matters, that's fine.

No. women can only call me if it's to hook-up.

Is my wife calling? Mom calling? If mom or wife is calling then sure.

GF/SO calling then it depends. Chit chat to meet up, talk for a few minutes when traveling for business. Saying they miss you, blah blah blah; then maybe.

I don't care to talk on the phone at all and will only do it when I have to.

I prefer to talk in person.

Also, women just love to vent then hang-up. screw that noise.

LOL! Yup!

Guys are just differently wired than girls. I would NEVER call my guy friends just to chat. I might call them and say "What's new?", if nothing is new the call lasts about 2 minutes.

I like getting calls from girls to just chat, but the girl need to realize she need to have some content. Just saying "Hey, how are you?" is going to lead to a pretty short conversation.

I love it. What I won't do is text. That goes for friends and anybody else though.

My fingers are like sausages.

I have a very hard time not hitting multiple buttons when I try to txt.

In fact too much txting & i'll just hit the dial button on my phone so I can get it done & over with.

To the people who prefer to talk in person

That sounds stupid to me because if you don't live together and have a job how often are you going to see each other? How can you connect if you just met?

If you are in a long distance relationship that is how you get to know each other. I've spent hours on the phone with someone I cared about and who cared about me.

I've never had a problem with a woman randomly calling just to have a convo. It's fine with me.

+1

A girl calling you means that someone actually gives a damn if your heart is beating. There is just something about hearing a woman talk...

I simply cannot explain it...

I hate it. It usually goes something like

Hey, what's up?

-Not much, you? (expecting her to reveal the reason she called)

Just wanted to hear your voice

-ok...

[incredibly forced conversation]

edit: posted this before seeing the family guy clip . Spot on

I didn't grow up texting. But I love it! Its simple and to the point! I'm not much of a phone talker. But I do appreciate a girl calling me for a change! It shows your assertiveness and some guys really like that:) So go for it!

It depends...

If it's new relationship(less than a month), I'm ok with it as long as it doesn't drag on for hours. If its a long distance relationship it's fine. I draw the line when the women lives close, and we have reached the spend the night together point.

The last girl I dated drove me nuts with this, she had already spent the night several times, but would still want to call and talk for hours (3+). If your comfortable enough to sleep with someone, you can go see them or they can come see you if you want to talk.

like from a romantic interest ? sure, why not. even if it's just a 5 minute thing to say hey what's up. i think it's cute

I don't mind it for ten minutes or so, no longer though. Much prefer that to having regimented night and morning call expectations. Having a GF expecting a call every morning is torture. The one before my ex would want morning, lunch and nighttime calls every day. That one didn't last too long.
