Is this good: "I understand you're just out of a relationship and need time to heal but I wanted to let you know I'm interested in taking you out on a romantic date once you feel you're ready." or is it doomed from the start?

You're already giving her a way to say no before she even says no. You're better off punching her arm and stealing her jacket. Seriously just say "So now that you're single, want to go out on a date?" If she's not ready for a new relationship, she'll tell you herself. By saying all that stuff about "understanding you need time to heal", just is really a way you can hope to score "nice guy" points. And if she does say yes even after your idea of saying what you said, do you really want to sit there all night hearing about her failed relationship because she knows you're already knowledgable to her feelings about it. Then you have to spend the whole night thinking to yourself "well ****, how do I go about showing her I'm not like this guy that she's ranting on about" Just a thought.
