sassysf Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Hi Everyone: I started posting this earlier, but then my long post went "poof" into cyberspace. It was good though as it gave me a chance to look around LS a bit. I was on here, under a different name, a few years back. I lost my passward, other user name, and have a different email address now, so just decided to do another account. Good to see a few of the old peeps here, especially Carhill. What brought me here a few years back has of course been resolved. What I liked about this site was how I was able to get advice from people not involved in my life, so it seemed more objective. (I mean as objective as a person with feelings and history and all can be, lol.) I also liked giving others advice so I'm glad to be back!! What brought me back is a bit convuluted, but I will try to be as concise as possible. And the story leading up to my question begins 24 years ago. (Please note all names used will be pseudonyms, but believe me names will be easier to follow.) So in my Freshman year of high school, I went to school with a girl named Rachel. Rachel was popular. I, not so much. Her mom saw my mom at some school event and told her that that Rachel had told her I would fit into her group. (We had the same English class and apparently she liked my remarks.) I considered it as I did think Rachel was cool and was flatterd she noticed me. (lol, I was 14, what can I say.) , but my best friend sooooo wouldn't have fit in, and there was no way I was going to abandon her. By the middle of Sophomore year, I felt no need to be popular at all. Rachel and I talk about 3 times in high school. Fast Forward to 2004 (17 years later.) I meet Mathew, through Eharmony. We go out for coffee and during the course of the conversation he mentions that his sister, Liane, is BFF with Rachel and was in my high school class. (I never knew her.) Of course, since we like each other, we are thrilled with the connection. We live in a big city, so it's not like everyone knows everyone. There are I think 6 public high schools and our city! The breakup 11 months later is terrible. He is cold and seemingly unfeeling, and I am clingy, whiny, and ppretty unaccepting of the whole thing. I semi worshipped Mathew, not healthy at all. We are friends for a bit, but then he very dramatically cuts off communication. I email him, trying for a response, more than a few times, does no good, NC SOOOOOOOOO much better. It took me more than it should have to get over him, but I do of course. It is still my worst breakup to date, and he is my only ex, I'm not even casual friends with. Fast Forward again to last Saturday. It was my hs 20th, reunion, wohoo. I knew Rachel would be there, but not Liane as there was a guest list. I had no intention of talking to Rachel though as we weren't friends in hs. Anyway, Rachel comes up to me, gives me a big hug and says we should to get together to "chat" sometime. (There was LOUD dance music playing, so pretty hard to chat there, lol. ) I email her, we are getting together in Jan. sometime. Anyway, so I'm wondering if there is some angle Mathew or Liane is pulling. Rachel just seemed SOOOOOO excited to see me but she barely said hi at our 10th, maybe waved. I know that Mathew must have told Liane all about the drama as they were really close and Rachel is her BFF! So two questions: 1. Do you think Rachel just wants to chat or do you think that Mathew and/or Liane nudged her to chat with me. 2. What do I do if she brings up Liane or especially Mathew?
Ariadne Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Hi, I think if Mathew cut you off like that and didn't even want to be friends (sorry about all that story). And you were not friends with Liane in the first place. Why would they nudge Rachel to talk to you? Doesn't make sense. Maybe Rachel got wind of the story and wanted to hear your side of it. Maybe she had a crush on Mathew or who knows.
