Woggle Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 The other night while watching a movie that came out in the 70s this thought occured to me. The people in the movie were attractive but they looked like real people you see on the street. There wasn't the airbrushed and plastic look to them that you see these days. People these watch movies and look at images that are airbrushed, and people that have had millions of dollars of work done and they think that is what real life is supposed to be like. It seems that people are losing the distinction between reality and fantasy. Simply looking like an actual everyday person is considered unattractive.
Author Woggle Posted November 26, 2011 Author Posted November 26, 2011 It doesn't make money seeing a bunch of ordinary people in movies and mags. A fact that is just another piece of this f'cked up land. The sad thing is that it used to make money.
melodymatters Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Watch an old episode of "Three's Company": Suzanne Summers was THE hot blonde, now she'd probably be considered overweight, and REAL BOOBS ???? Ew ! LOL FWIW, almost every celebrity has veneers on their teeth, botox, and hair extensions at the VERY least. I agree Wogs ! Good post !
Author Woggle Posted November 26, 2011 Author Posted November 26, 2011 I was watching Mean Streets and almost every woman in the movie looks better than what you see in movies these days. They look like the average women you see walking down the street in NYC instead of all airbrushed and plastic.
FitChick Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Who cares what other people do? Just worry about yourself. Stop wasting your energy over something (or someone) you cannot change.
Peitho Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 I couldn’t agree more, Woggle! It’s like watching cartoons sometimes. People all look the same and they often look fake and plastic. It’s sad how it affects people, make them feel inadequate, make them think that is what real life is supposed to be. Not everyone responds to it the same way, but I don’t think there are many people who are able to stay completely unaffected. Unfortunately, young people are more at risk. Try watching European movies – it’s refreshing how actors look a lot more like actual, everyday people. And not only in appearance but character wise as well; even the life they portray is actually more realistic. I don’t think this is something that can’t be changed. The film industry offers what people want to watch. If enough people realize this and stop watching crap this would change very quickly!
phineas Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 If you look at any TV from the 70's everyone was so lean. Sure, not many with an actual build but lean. Even pictures of family members from the 70's regardless of age. Their mostly lean. We have become a fat nation & being ripped brings the WOW factor. What I do laugh at is all these chiseled dudes on these TV shows on say The WB that play the part of the nerd who can't get a GF to save his life. LOL!

People complain that it is only in recent times that there has been an emphasis on thinness, but look at films from the Thirties, Forties, Fifties and Sixties. Look at documentaries and photos of people from those days. You seldom saw anyone fat. Even those who say Marilyn Monroe was curvy don't realize she only had a 23" waist and weighed no more than 120, usually when she wasn't working and gained a few pounds. Put down the cake, people! Go for a walk!
MaxNoob Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Here's pictures of Brooklyn from 1974. Not a single fat person: http://www.businessinsider.com/photos-brooklyn-19070s-2011-6?op=1

Author Woggle Posted November 26, 2011 Author Posted November 26, 2011 Call me crazy but I wish NY was still like that.
