I have a couple of questions that I have no idea if anyone will have the answers to...

any references or answers will really be appreciated!

Okay here goes......I am and have been in a serious relationship with someone who is not a legal citizen and we are thinking about getting married. I want more than anything for him to be able to become a US citizen so that he can travel freely to see his family in Mexico and be able to come back again without all the dangers that come along with being an illegal alien.

My question is does anyone have any idea how we go about getting him his papers?

I have heard that they have changed the law now they won't give out temp or perm visas to people just because they are married, also I've heard that you have to both live in Mexico 2 years before he can get his visa....lots of rumors but I have no idea what's true or where to go about finding out.

I have researched a couple of sites but they haven't been helpful at all, if anyone can give me some insight I would truly appreciate it! Thanks so much for your time!

The INS (Immigration and Naturalization Service) should be able to help you out on what you have to do. Have you tried their website?

In the meantime, the paperwork will take a very long time. Extremely slow they are. It can take upwards of six months after getting married to even get work papers for him to work here legally. Citizenship? Even longer.

You get quizzed and all sorts of crazy stuff to prove that you really are in love and that you know each other.

Good luck!
