Anyway to meet women at a school dance?

No I'm not in High School :p

Twice a year the dance department throws a huge social dance party. Since it's a campus event, no alcohol is allowed.

Since it's a requirement to go if you are taking a dance class, I've gone to several of these. I always end up getting really bored and leave after 30 minutes.

Is there anything I can do to have more fun and maybe, possibly, meet a girl I could see again?

Do you dance with women at these dances? If so, dance with as many as strike your fancy. You're probably pretty good at dancing. Women like that. It's kinda like shooting fish in a barrel. Of course, you need a gun. ;)

Sadly, no, I suspect there isn't.

What you should be doing, though, is asking girls to dance with you.

Hang in there and ask them to dance. And don't get discouraged if you get some rejections. And brush up on your dancing skills as much as possible beforehand. If women see you are a good dancer, they'll be interested in dancing just for that fact, even if they aren't interested in anything more than that.

Eh, dancing with girls is pretty much a given but that gets boring and why I end up leaving early.

What I want to know is if it's possible to get anything more than just dancing with random girls.

Well, you'll just have to try it. Find a girl who dances well (or whatever else you find attractive) and talk to her. If you're still liking her then ask for her for a date or ask for her phone number.

Are you in undergrad or grad school?

Being a 30 year old man and hitting on traditional undergrads (18-22) will be tough. They still think like girls and will think the age difference is huge. A few of them will probably date a 30 year old, but one with a job and $ to take them to nice places and stuff.

Anything that I can talk to them about?

What can I do make her want to give me her phone number?

Most of these will be girls I've never met before.

Damn, I wish I made this thread earlier. I've got to be there at 5 to help set up.

I look a hell of a lot younger than I really am.

That won't be an issue.

You can have
with dancing ;)

Oh yes, the age will be an issue. I can pass for 24 or so too, but when I tell them how old I really was they'd be like ...

Once they graduate and get out into the real world, that changes quick though.

I do agree with Carhill, though.

Go out and have fun, and don't mention your age, and it probably won't come up.

You're in college. Talk to them about majors and happenings around town. College kids are into cool stuff ... music, politics, and movies.

So if you knew about that stuff, it'd help. In a sense, it was a lot easier to talk to college girls because they are into a lot of pop culture stuff. You don't have to get bogged down with career and aspiration discussions.

Please, the last thing I do is tell girls my age right off the bat.

Conversation topics like majors and movies isn't going to work.

Sigh, doesn't seem like there is anything I can do differently this time around.

Dancing? If she's good then tell her. If this is a school thing then talk about what she's studying.

Tell her you want to see her again, or dance with her again, but it might not work. Just don't be a jerk. She'll either fancy you or she won't.

Dangle a Cheez Doodle from your mouth and see if anyone will take it. Report back.

But seriously. Dress for success, have a positive attitude and assert yourself. Business card?

What type of dance is this? Hip Hop? Latin/Salsa?

Dancing is the best place in the world to meet and hit on girls, especially Latin dance ... Women LOVE to dance (at least the ones I know). And there are fewer and fewer guys, who even want to learn how to dance.

A few things you need to make sure you do:

1. Identify a lady you are interested in

2. Invite her to dance with you

3. Compliment her on the way she dances and her outfit

4. Tell her about other places, where you and her can go dancing ...

5. Get her phone number ... and invite her for some more dancing...
