jmwinters Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Hi, I just met this fairly new girl in my company. She has been working with us for three months, and I just met her two weeks ago in the elevator. She works in a different dept and sits at the other side of the building which I rarely go to that territory. How do I get to know her with being intruding?
ksmit Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 (edited) Pay attention to her routes, times she arrives, and her patterns. Find ways to innocently create reasons to go in her area. From here you can just so happen to "run into her" on occasion. Have a discussion which would give you a reason to exchange emails. Email is how I had the opportunity to date my coworker. Start off emailing about business then throw in a personal question (ask about anything not work related) and if she takes the bait you can keep the email chain going with more personal questions. I knew my coworker was into me when she responded with a paragraph and always asked a question in return. Use common sense. The girl I dated, her desk was moved and I asked about it in one of our business-related emails. She was very receptive (she was always into me though) and from there we moved to education topics, business interests, etc, and eventually started dating naturally. When I noticed she was always asking if I had "big plans" for the weekend, I started asking her what she did for fun. From there it naturally proceeded to "we should do <whatever> sometime". I do not advise dating a coworker though unless you promise yourself to not NEVER get attached emotionally. Everything could be going fantastic for months (like it did for me), to complete HELL, awkwardness, and heartbreak. I'm not over her and running into her once or twice a week is difficult. That's a good story man. I can almost picture it in my head as you pass her in the hallway. Hang in there.
