wavering_radiant Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 So, I've been on three dates with a girl I met online, and am about to go on a fourth date tomorrow (which is her birthday). I was about to call it off a couple days after the third date, but I didn't want to ruin her birthday, so I decided to wait until after her birthday before I break it off with her, although I'm not sure if I really made the right decision here. I'm not sure about the best way to go about ending it, though. We've had sex once, and so I realize that I can't just stop talking to her or break up via text or email. But I'm not sure about what would be the best way to break it off with her. Put simply, I'm just not that attracted to her, although I get along with her really well and have a lot in common with her. I know though that this isn't going to work out and it should be ended soon. I'm not sure what the best thing to say would be.
Piddlywinks Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Oh man, I've been there too. I haaaate it because it's terrible hurting the feelings of a girl that you otherwise get along with great if you're a nice guy. I really like the advice on this page. It seems kind but still honest to me: http://ask.metafilter.com/88726/How-do-I-let-someone-down-easy#1305651 Good luck.
Emilia Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 I think I would leave point 4. out because that's patronising but the rest of it sounds good.
snug.bunny Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Just tell her you aren't interested in a relationship and you feel things are progressing into that territory given the number of times you've been out and her invite to her birthday party. I realize these types of conversations are never easy but it's really for the best.
