I dream in 3's ever since me and my ex split up. I remember 3 dreams from each night. Sometimes there is a significate about of "3's" that show up in my dreams (3 cabs, 3 babies, etc).

The dreams more often then not revolve around my ex. They have changed from being very cold and him dismissing me, to him asking me not to go and myself (oddly) being very hesitant to stay.

Anyone else expereince a plethora of strange happenings to their dreams? Having more or less of the? Having a certain amount (like how mine are in 3's)?

Hmmm, strange you should say that because I think my dreams have become my way of processing possible outcomes without any internal monologue-for example last night I had a brutally honest "conversation" with my ex in my dream where I kind of saw the sad reality of the situation. This might be seen as a positive step in your recovery situation-your brain is digesting what's happened and your subconscious is kicking in. Stick to the fact that you weren't sure that you wanted him back in your dreams, I say run with it!

Yeah it must be some sort of subconscious way to dealing, because I went to bed watching Futurama lol... clearly my mind wasn't on my ex, I was far to concerned about with the shenanigans in the show.

At first I would feel distraugh and panicked about the dreams when I would wake up (because they were cold), now I feel much more calm.

Interesting how the body works.

Thats amazing. I woke up today and decided I would make a post about dreams... I was even formulating what I would say on the treadmil and in the shower.

I too think its our subconcious trying to cope... I felt it strange that conciously I want nothing more to move on and have NC but it's tough when I am basically hanging out with her 6-8 hours a night!!! I can remember 3 (strangly enough) dreams about her last night...

The first we were cuddling on the couch watching a movie (we used to do that a lot when we first got together). She was telling me how much she liked my new hairstyle (pretty much just started using forming cream instead of hair gel). I was so happy.

The second dream we were working at a grocery store which is where we first met. But she and her friends were talking about how she was beginning to feel unhappy. I think this symbolizes the past year or so since she became super busy with work/school and when I started to have some depression issues because of work.

The last one is kind of weird but I think I understand it. I was in the desert with her. I felt a sense of trust in her. She told me that if we could find a salt deposit (no clue why salt) that we could sell it and be rich. She was going to go talk to a guy (think it was McGuyver lol) and get advice on how to mine salt. So as I was walking over to where she said to look I suddenly found myself face to face with the biggest lion/tiger something that I have ever seen. And at that point I knew I was screwed because there aren't many places to run to in the desert. I'm pretty sure McGuyver symbolizes the cool new guy in her life and the lion/tiger is betrayal but is also what is (hopefuly) my subconcious finally accepting the fact that there is no where to run and its time to throw in the towel.

Chelsea, I'm pretty sure the 3 for me symbolizes the start, middle and end of the relationship. Not sure if its the case with yours but I find it crazy that this happened to both of us. I am usually lucky to remember more than a few seconds of a dream.

I think it's awesome McGuyver was in your dream... too bad you interpert him as her cool new guy lol.

I did a search on numbers in dreams and it said, like you said.. it can symbolize the past, present and future; mother, father, son; the trinity; etc. It can also symbolize 3rd times the charm. Who knows. I just thought it was neat that I am dreaming in 3's and that there are lots of 3's in those dreams.

For a long time I couldn't remember dreams usually and when I did it was only 1 and in a blue moon. Again I think its awesome how the body works.

That's cool about things happening in threes, it's unfortunate that it can be about your ex a lot however.

Yeah, when she dumped me, it took about a week and I was dreaming about her nearly every night. Usually having multiple dreams as well. For the first 8 weeks or so the dreams were based around her breaking up with me in different ways, in different places, etc. Now, being 18 weeks out, I'm dreaming about her maybe two nights a week and it's just random stuff. Sometimes I'll go four days straight without her in my dreams and then I'll have three dreams back to back to back the next night. One was her breaking up with me, the next a sex dream and the next she wanted to break up but I convinced her to stay. The thing is, I remember all the dreams. I can't seem to forget em.

I can't wait for the dreams of her to stop. It would be nice to go at least a month without her in a dream.

Very interesting . I had dreams about him being distant and mean before we broke up . Guess deep down I knew. In all my dreams afterwards he was cold .he even admitted to cheating .

This is only my personal opinion of dreams....

I have two explanations.

Dreams tend to be your subconsious acting out, ie whats on your mind during the day, or in the back of your mind come out when dreaming.

for example my ex always slept talk, he always spoke about the things that were troubling him or on his mind in a good way or bad way.

the other explanation is myself...

I dont remember my dreams the only ones i do are a snap shot of my future. They tend to come true.

I dont care what anyone says, you cant predict future etc, but i think for me its my subconsious giving me warnings from what my gut instinct has learned in the past.

over your life your subconsious remembers patterns in our life, this is where your gut instinct comes from. If you google gut instinct it will explain better.

But for me i only remember a hand full of dreams a year. 85% of which have came true. Where as my ex dreams about whats on his mind.

Everyone believes there own theories

I dream of things that are bothering me, or things that have meaning to my life ..

I remember one of the times when my ex and I broke up, I had a very vivid dream that still bothers me a little, and its like this huge realization of what my relationship with him was like, that even though I loved him, that love was 'forced' by him, and his lies and manipulation. Eh well, I didn't really act on it at the time unfortunately :p

After the breakup, I have dreamt of him a few times. Usually the dreams leave me a little disturbed and aren't nice happy dreams. Then again like I said, I only dream of things that bother me and USUALLY they help me work stuff out. I guess its the healing process somehow

I dreamt about the ex last night, first time in 4 months, i done some research and came up with this paragraph, its about smoking but gace the simplest answer i think, thats why i chose it.

People who have smoked cigarettes for a long time who stop, have reported much more vivid dreams than they would normally experience. Additionally, according to the Journal of Abnormal Psychology: “Among 293 smokers abstinent for between 1 and 4 weeks, 33% reported having at least 1 dream about smoking. In most dreams, subjects caught themselves smoking and felt strong negative emotions, such as panic and guilt. Dreams about smoking were the result of tobacco withdrawal, as 97% of subjects did not have them while smoking, and their occurrence was significantly related to the duration of abstinence. They were rated as more vivid than the usual dreams and were as common as most major tobacco withdrawal symptoms.”

Try replace cigarettes with the ex lol, and might get an explanation

I went through this for a week or so after I tried reconciling with my ex. They were mostly dreams of us getting back together. I guess it is normal.

Did you succeed in getting back together?

I'm actually glad I saw this in your thread Chelsea.

I have had weird dreams myself.

One dream I had was I was in a parking lot filled with Nissan skyline's and they were all blue. That is my favorite and I'm talking about 1000s of them...And then I heard a voice saying one of them is yours and its the one with "her" in the passenger seat. I did find the one with "her" I didn't see the face or or body. All I saw was a ring...the same exact ring I gave my ex for christmas.

Another dream I had was I was laying in bed at night about to fall asleep. And we were texting eachother. And she texted me stuff saying how she wanted to get back together and how she does love me etc. When I woke up, I checked my phone and none of that was there. I wanted to fall back asleep into that dream and it just felt so real. I mean everything was exactly the same except for the text messages.

The third dream I had was I was at home all by myself. I decided to go out for a walk. As I was leaving the front door and was about to lock it. I heard her voice and her crying. She was saying something but I couldn't make out what it was and I never turned around, I just stood there. And I know it was my ex.

I haven't remembered many dreams lately... I blame it on being busy and going out a lot (family in town).. I don't dream when I have had a few drinks.

I think dreams are fascinating. When my parents were breaking up when I was 12, I constantly... and I mean all the time for probably 6 months, dreamed of tornados.

yes its now exactly a month since the breakup and i have dreams about her every night, probably because my mind is on her every minute of the day. but im not feeling to bad right now actually. i do have my hopes up for the meetup "hopefully this week" i think sometimes you just have to change yourself to feel better.

thats what i've been doing, i want her to see the new me, and even if we dont go back together, i just want her to know that i know what happened and why it did. i want her to see that im still the person she fell inlove with the first time, not the guy that she dumped.

Dreamed about the ex again. It's pretty vague... but he was there, I was there, in some weird random place and he was saying he missed me. I just stood there with no emotion on my face. Weird... when I am awake I am FULL of emotion lol.

After I was dumped I dreaded the dreams of her that I was sure were coming. It's funny,,in the 3 1/2 months that I've been away from her I can only remember one dream about her,,, Thank God.

I wonder if the dumpers dream of us dumpees??

I had 3 dreams about him last night! Actually I neeeever had dreams about him while we were going out except once..I remember I woke up and I told him, I just had a dream you broke up with me and he said I would never do that..this was like...6 months ago. And look at that! Came true but..my dreams lately are about us getting back together, or me trying to search for him and get in touch with him and him realizing he made a mistake and saying he wants me back...I am lucky if I have a night when I dont dream about him at all..which is nice cause I feel more rested in the morning..otherwise I am cranky blahh and keep waking up through the night.

I posted a month or so back on this

My ex dumped me after 6 years together this January and immediately hooked up with someone else.

He's still with her but last time he was out with mutual friends he told them that he keeps dreaming of me and how lovely I am?!??

So yeah in my experience dumpers do dream of us. What it means I have no clue!

In my opinion it's unfinished / unresolved business preying on his mind. It's been over 10 months strict nc and I know I certainly don't dream of him!!!!

Maybe he's not as happy with the new gf as he makes out???

Another dream of my ex last night. Don't remember it all.. This one couple we knew told me it was weird I wasn't there (at the house) anymore and weird that we had broken up. Then at some point in the dream my ex was telling me the reason he broke up with me, and I was telling him it was unfair because he never told me. Then he kissed me 3 times on the forehead.

Neato.

I was dreaming last night. I don't have these dreams as often as I did. But I did last night. It was a combonation of her dismissing me, but yet reaching out to me. Weird. And I did wake up about 3 times trying to shake it off..

I wonder that same thing. I remember when she had nightmares about her sons worthless dad kidnapping the boy... I would venture to say, although they walked away, their subconcious minds allow them to dream about us. But their shallowness and cold heart allows them to awaken and forget about it. Where as the dumpee, deals with it all day. Make sense?
