missed_theboat Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 So, I have had a cold for the past week. It started normally, with a sore throat and progressed into the runny nose, congestion, etc. I didn't have flu-symptoms: no fever; no chills or body aches. It was a manageable cold, and I took care of myself. I drank lots of fluids, got plenty of sleep, and took vitamin C and zinc supplements just in case, along with over-the-counter cold remedies (alka-seltzer, etc). I had myself pretty well put together. Then I made a mistake. I went out last night with some friends, and I drank a few mixed drinks. I know I shouldn't have, because my body is still healing and my immune system is slightly off, but I did. So, I came home last night and went to bed, without having water in between drinks or anything. I woke up at around 6am with a pounding headache. I assume it was dehydration, so I chugged some water and took a pain pill. It was so bad that it took me about 30 minutes to get back to sleep. Once I did wake up for the day, at around 8, I was not feeling very well, and ended up vomiting! It kind of came out of nowhere. I didn't feel hung-over at all! I have had hang-overs, but this lasted all morning. I would start coughing and the phlegm made me gag and I would vomit! It was really odd and I felt like CRAP. It ended after lunch (which I threw up) and I just lay down and took a LONG nap. I felt a ton better afterward, and was able to sleep. Anyway, could this have been a product of my postnasal drip and the excessive phlegm in my throat? Or was it a combination with the alcohol? I'm just curious because I was hoping to be getting better right about now, not adding a new symptom!

Alcohol can make you feel cold and having a cold is not fun. Could be the postnasal drip and phlegm. How is the humidity in your living area? That could cause some dehydration. Try to have some electrolytes or vitamin water so you keep hydrated and have some nutrients in your system. I'll get it checked if the cold keeps on bothering you.
january2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Alcohol usually warms me up and I can temporarily stave off the shivering with a drop or too. I've also found that swallowing phlegm rather than spitting it out, can lead to vomiting. Either way is not nice, but I feel it's better out than in. Perhaps individual physiological differences come into play here. Thus, I agree with jerbear about getting it checked out if it's really bothering you. People can share experiences online but I don't think those experiences can replace the advice of your own doctor.
Koyal Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 I think you should check out its something weird vomit with cold and get well soon.
