How far we've come.

Years ago, a man that was shooting blanks was ashamed and felt like less of a man.

Today, men are desperate to pay for the honor

More emasculation for the already emasculated western man.

read any of your own posts lately?? or perhaps I'm confusing you with some of your other male counterparts who whine incessently about women's attractiveness.

'You' and your fellow men as much as anyone have created this dynamic... same goes for the need to develop a career.

Take two seconds and ask yourself what you would do in a woman's situation...

Yeah what if your dick became completely deformed after having children? Would you still consider having kids? I'm not saying a woman's body becomes completely deformed, but some do. Your boobs sag, you have loose belly skin, stretch marks the whole 9 yards.

So wait, if you don't "shoot blanks", and your girl doesn't take birth control, are you having sex with a condom all the time? Pull and pray method? You can't want babies every time you have sex...

This American Life must be confusing me for someone else, because other than saying I'm not into obese women I've never said a word about women's attractiveness.

I would never think twice about something as menial as a stretch mark, if the type of man you're into does then perhaps you ought to stop dating him. The joy of seeing a woman I love pregnant with my child far outweighs any little physical changes afterwards. What are you going to do when you turn 70? kill yourself?

Shannon, I also echo the OP's exact words. I really really dont like kids, and I never want them. TAL reminded me of why im not worried about getting old, because youre always alone anyway, your kids never visit you. So theres no need to bother with that lifelong investment.

My real estate agents both are part of a lil bunch of friends that all dont have -or ever will have kids. They do all kinds of things together and are basically living out the high life. They have all their money, nice homes, travel constantly, and send their nieces and nephews home at the end of the day. If you were 8 hours closer Id say lets go on a date. hard enough finding women who wont succumb to pressure from their friends and family to spew out babies.

I noted, when visiting my mother's facility (a locked dementia facility), that nursing staff often commented on how often I visited (not really often, maybe a few times a month) compared to some other patients who hadn't been visited by their children in months or years. They had a sign-in log so could track such things. I found that interesting, though perhaps not reflective of wider experience. In some cases, having children isn't any sort of guarantee of love or attention or care in one's twilight years. The experience sure opened my eyes.

Yes exactly. Just because you push out a few kids doesn't mean they are going to give a crap about you when you are old and decrepid. They will have their own lives to live and if they visit you once in awhile, you'll be lucky. That's what nursing homes are for. To take care of the elderly so their kids don't have to. Duh!! It's very sad. I'll take the loyal unconditional love of a dog any day over that.:)

I would very much prefer to shoot blanks than to pay for an unwanted child for 18years.

Seems like a logical decision based the price difference between the two.

Ahhhh no. I won't be killing myself. I have a feeling you will be though if you don't get some of your nasty bitterness out. Your posts ooze with it. You are attractive and seem fairly intelligent, but man the bitterness sucks!!

The fact that I like to keep my body in tip top shape has nothing to do with the men I date. I want a nice body. I'm sure if I was 300lbs some man would love me. It's not about that. It's about wanting to look good for MYSELF.

Wow 3 men on this thread that don't want children. It's not so rare afterall.

Without children you can travel, not be tied down and do what YOU want to do. Who cares if you die alone in a nursing home. At least you lived a hell of a good life. Kids are a f*cking pain in the @ss. That's all I can say. I like a few kids, but not many.

I don't want kids either. Not just for the reasons mentioned here, but also because the idea of being responsible for molding a life from birth to adulthood scares the living crap out of me.

My gf is undecided about them, but probably will end up wanting them just to satisfy her family (Pakistanis, very big on family). Depending on how I feel by then (and assuming we're still together) I might give in. But I'd strongly prefer not to.

I found one... call around.

It is appalling that women can't easily get this procedure if they want it. My current gyno said she'd never have allowed me to get my tubes tied. I asked her, how dare you?? you mean you would prefer I get abortions and subject my body to dangerous chemicals instead??

That decision is all about keeping women coming into their offices. The minute you get a tubal, you aren't there getting refills from the drug companies.

Best decision I ever made. Oh, here's one hint... look for doctors who are from developing countries. They have some idea about the effects of overpopulation in those places. That is what I did...

Thanks for the info:)

Yes it scares me too. I want to be responsible for myself and no one else. Kids are hard to raise. It's a job I'm just not up for.

And my body? The strech marks!! No thanks!!

Stretch marks are sexy on a woman's hips. I don't know why I find that so. I think it's how they ripple with each pound during doggy. I see that and I'm damn-near done for every time (if you know what I mean). But I can certainly console myself if they are not there too. :):D

I have a follow-up question, actually. I think this may eventually warrant it's own thread, but it somewhat relates to this one. So what the hell...

How would the average woman view a man on birth control (if it was ever to arrive)? They say it's relatively nearby, but still not fully available. I also read that the reason why it isn't available yet (or rather, stalled) is because there is a large female community that is against it because it gives more power to men in regards to procreation.

Would most women be sensible and happy that their man takes ownership of their "seed," or would they be threatened?

That would be a great thread topic here, will you make one? I will if you don't want to.

I did some slight web research and apparently there is a small but very vocal (go figure) contingent of women against it. The ostensible reason is that it is not nearly as reliable as the pill, which sounds ridiculous on its face because women could still insist on condoms or use the female pill also. It's not like some guy is going to say "I'm on the male pill and that's ALL we are gonna use cause I make the rules." We all know consensual sex doesn't work that way, far from it.

What I noticed in the forums I looked at was that a majority of women were for the male pill and had no problems at all with it. Would love to see what would be said about it here.

I think a lot of women have stretch marks on their hips. It's happens with the big growth spurts of puberty. Also the breasts can sometimes have them as well. I'm talking big stretch marks on the belly, thighs and everywhere else. I don't want that happening to me. While there would be a man who would love me for bearing him a child and for my ugly stretch marks, I prefer not to go down that road. I'm not a kid person. And do you have children Frisky? Just curious:)

Not everybody is cut out for parenthood. There are actually way too many people having kids that have no business being a parent.

I do have to worry though about women who hate kids or hate the idea of caring about anybody but themselves. They tend not to make good relationship partners. At least be willing to give out some candy hallowee.

I'd give out candy to the trick or treaters and I do enjoy some children, but I don't want to have to take care of one 24/7 for 18+ years. There is nothing wrong with that. I'm sure many people would consider me selfish for that, but I'm OK with it.

Stretch marks are ok some places, but horrible in others?

Stretch marks are something that women make a big deal about--not men. We'd be better off if we stopped worrying each other about such things.

But I support anyone's choice to not have kids :) It is a huge responsibility, involving a huge amt of sacrifice, and is not for everyone.

There is sense of ME, ME, ME in folks that don't want children, no doubt. Your concern about carrying the ME, ME, ME syndrome to their relationships is quite valid. The best relationships are where the partners make some sacrifices for each other.

The issue of stretch marks is rather moot because these women will get old just like everybody else.

BTW, some studies suggest that pregnancy and breast feeding is associated with a lower risk of breast cancer.

This is why I had my tubes tied at 30. No accidents, thank you :)

I'm pretty firm about wanting to be an adoptive or foster mom.. if I were a mom at all. As it is, I"ve channeled that 'energy' into my community and teaching now. That is what childless people did in the past too.

When I was looking for a man to start a family with back in my late 30's... there were plenty who couldn't be a father unless the kid looked like him.

That was his choice, but I still preferred men who could love any child... regardless of where they came from. Just as I could.

When women set up a high number of criteria regarding what they want in a permanent relationship they are cutting the number of available candidates to almost nothing. As a man I prefer bio kids and I am certain most men feel that way. So by thinking that way you reduce your chances of finding Mr Right. I am just talking generically since you are 47, however, this mostly applies to women in their 20s and early 30s.

We had the same issue with women that insisted on having tattoos. By doing so they discard more than 50% of available men.

Is it not less selfish to not have children because you don't want them than to have children just because...., well just because they make nice toys (which to be honest is true of too many parents )

Nope, no children of my own. I'm sure I would have if my life went differently though. I'm not adverse to having a relationshp with someone who has kids (obviosuly) as long as I can sense that they are not little hurters in the making.
