Symetrical-Siren Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 Who else "needs" to have some part of their anatomy touching someone else to sleep well ? I'm talking that DEEP sleep where you wake up well rested, and feel like you actually slept. This doesn't necessarily have to be with a partner either. When I was growing up, there were 3 other siblings. We had to share twin sized beds. So I was used to someone sleeping in the bed with me every night. Impossible to share a twin bed without touching. I know it sounds weird, but I generally put my butt on whoever shares the bed with me; that's my loneliness indicator. If my butt gets cold, then I know they left. Any time I've had to sleep alone over the years, I just don't seem to get that refreshing sleep as I do when I am touching someone, or someone is touching me. I guess it must be like a security blanket or something. I recall an ex even telling me, he watched over me once while I was sleeping. He was online playing EQ or Age of Empires while I slept. He said I looked ill at ease, and my sleep was very "fit-full". However, when he climbed into bed with me and held me, he said I let out this "DEEP" sigh of relief and just sunk into him and the bed; completely relaxed.
Eliana Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 I actually have the opposite problem, anything foreign in my bed is a distraction. Had to take care of my neighbour's cat last week and could barely sleep, even though the cat was lovely and quiet and just stood at the end of the bed. When my niece sneaks in my bed, I already know I won't be able to fall asleep *sigh* I totally understand where your need comes from, and I guess it's a normal thing. But I would be slightly worried about not being able to have restfull nights without having somewhere there, makes you slightly dependent of it. Have you thought about extra pillows, or warm water bottles as a replacement? I've heard of pillows that have these arms that apparently are really good too.

I need my space when I'm sleeping. As in don't touch me. I mean I like to cuddle, but once I'm nodding off, I need to be left alone. I can't stand being held onto when I'm sleeping. I had a boyfriend who always wanted to hold me when I slept and I just couldn't deal with it. He would get so mad at me. I told him it was nothing personal, I just needed my space when I slept. He never understood it. Maybe he was like the OP in that way. Always needing to touch while sleeping. I'm the complete opposite. I do enjoy sleeping next to someone though. I prefer that better then sleeping alone.

OnyxSnowfall Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 I sleep wayyyy better when I have a lovely warm body pressed close against me or entangled with mine It's so much more relaxing and cozy (for me)... Nights when my lover isn't near me to enmesh with are restless and I don't get good sleep either. Thankfully my lover has the same issue
Els Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Well, I would not go so far as to say I sleep 'better' with someone touching me, but I certainly fall asleep easier. There's nothing like cuddling the warm body of your SO to relax you and drive anxious thoughts from your mind. It's just a pity that the warm body actually moves and wakes up and such :D:D, so no, I don't sleep better in general with someone next to me.
Emilia Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 To me it depends on who I'm sleeping next to. The last guy I dated kept disturbing my sleep even though he didn't move around much. My ex before him had the opposite effect, with him in bed I slept like a baby
Gemini.rain Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 I like to be touched when I am sleeping especially being hug. It just feel safe, protected, and relax. It's common for everyone to love the feeling, but to depend on it it's a problem. I myself sleep in double bed alone every night. I hate it but I don't have someone I love to share the bed. I feel good and that's not be a big problem for me. Enjoy the big bed and the silent. You'd miss it when you find someone big and snore beside you. {wink} Gemini.rain
